I thought it might be useful for parents of 2023 children taking the 11+ test next school year to have a space to talk everything 11+ - tips on managing stress, approaches to the different papers, ways of relaxing etc.

Let's try and keep it positive and supportive!

Thanks Coraline353 thanks very much for the update. What did you think of Beths? I went the other week and loved it.

I wasn't there today (my DH brought him) but I did join DS for the year 5 taster morning a few months ago and did like it then. DS loves it. He really liked Chis and Sid but so far his heart is really set on Beth's for some reason. It's the longest and most awkward commute for us which is annoying and I'm trying to get him to understand the realities of that. I think it's just a school that seems quite STEM focused and is both rugby and football school too. Plus his best friend likes it too.

Thanks @historyrepeatz
thats a lot to take in in one email 😂

curiousmama so you have results coming soon? It is all sounding really nerve wracking. Maybe GL is not coping so well with taking over CEM's work.

Yes. They are due by Saturday but I'm hoping it will be before then.

historyrepeatz · 17/10/2023 12:30

It tells you the pass mark, the marks for each section of the test and your overall standardised score. It will say whether you are selective or not. It will say whether you are too 180 or not and the mark for achieving top 180 but not your specific rank. It will also say how many took the test and how many were deemed selective.

Rinse123 · 17/10/2023 12:28

I believe it says your child got x and the pass mark was x so they have or have not been deemed selective for grammar

CokeZeroPlease · 17/10/2023 12:27

Yep exactly ! Bit concerning re GL and the standardisation although hopefully this is resolved
what was last years pass ? 214? J feel when the email comes I am going to struggle to actually compute it !!! Does it just say pass / not pass or does it give you a score and you have to work it out ?!

Numeri19 · 17/10/2023 12:26

Hi, I am wondering if Bexley secondary head teacher are already know the results too...?🤔

11plusdrama · 17/10/2023 12:23

I know it is very challenging! We all just want to know.

LimeCheesecake · 17/10/2023 12:21

Ahhh! Just want to know now, if it’s a “nope”, fine, we move on.

BlackLambAndGreyFalcon · 17/10/2023 12:08

@LimeCheesecake they've known for weeks now. I think DD's headteacher may have hinted positive news to me - or he may not have done and I'm reading too much into the conversation. Arggghhhhh - the wait is killing me!

Testpreo · 17/10/2023 12:07

11plusdrama · 17/10/2023 12:06

Limecheese they won't tell you. The reason they get them is so they can consider doing an appeal without parental interference.

So you may be able to drop hints. Although I did hear that one year a head suggested a parent wait until both bexley and Kent were released as the lovely head wanted the parents to deliver some good news to negate the bad news.

curiousmamma · 17/10/2023 12:05

11plusdrama · 17/10/2023 11:58

curiousmama what area are you waiting on? I guess this an issue with so many only able to use GL now.

We're in West Yorkshire and the schools here have used GL for years. We were told the results would be out early and the received an email saying there was an 'unforeseen delay'. It's worrying that that has happened but at least it's been corrected now.

LimeCheesecake · 17/10/2023 12:03

Good luck for those today. Kent is tomorrow. Someone mentioned that primary heads and teachers now know who’s passed (so they can do appeals) - so wanted to ask DDs teacher this morning !

11plusdrama · 17/10/2023 12:00

historyrepeatz · 17/10/2023 11:57

That's awful. GL are new to Bexley but not to many other places and they have to do standardisation for them too so should be experienced.

curiousmamma · 17/10/2023 11:53

Coraline353 · 17/10/2023 11:46

I just heard that the tests had to be sent back to GL twice to be looked at/re-marked as they hadn't applied standardisation etc. properly. The HT at Beth's just said it this morning at their open day. Sounds like pass mark is expected to remain the same (roughly 214) but top 180 score has come down a bit.

Did they say if that is nationally or just for where you're applying to? I only ask as our results have been delayed too and I wonder if it's because of this.

Coraline353 · 17/10/2023 11:53

Yeah it all got resolved but Bexley had to get them redone. And yes HT still was expecting them today.

11plusdrama · 17/10/2023 11:51

Did the head say that they had resolved standardisation? I mean did they end up applying age standardisation? This is really worrying me now..

11plusdrama · 17/10/2023 11:49

That is worrying re standardisation, did head say that results would come out today? I mean it is on the website that they will?

i imagine it is challenging with the new provider but this is so stressful!

11plusdrama · 17/10/2023 11:47

Yes I agree. We didn't find our venue and exam times until late.

i think possibly they have had an increase in sitters but surely some emails should be going prior to 6 pm.

Oooffff
I feel like bexley have made the whole process as difficult as possible

Coraline353 · 17/10/2023 11:25

Thanks for the heads up @Rinse123
