GCSE results day 2021 support thread

10 days to go until results day. Thought I'd start a new thread for parents who are getting the heebie jeebies and are probably more stressed than their DCs. I personally am trying not to mention it AT ALL, so it would be really good to have a thread where I can worry along with everyone else!

@TeenMinusTests

DD has just set off on her own on foot.

This in itself is an achievement as she hasn't set foot on the school site for over a year, and hasn't walked on her own that distance in over a year either.

Love it - well done her!
AChickenCalledDaal · 12/08/2021 09:19

DD on her way to school and just announced she's bringing a friend home with her so they can celebrate/commiserate together. This was not among the scenarios that have been running through my head!!

Barwell76 · 12/08/2021 09:19

We are going to collect them at 10.30. Wasnt nervous before but getting a bit anxious now.

beigebrownblue · 12/08/2021 09:19

Yes, and well done parents and carers.

I always thought G.C.S.E year was going to be stressful but who would have reckoned wiith a global pandemic on top eh? Marvellous achievemnt to get through all that regardless of grades. (anticipatory pats on back)

@claireymrsd

We're self isolating as hubby tested positive on Sunday so daughter can't collect in person. We're waiting for an email or her friend to deliver the envelope- whichever comes first !
Oh gosh, that's tricky Clairey hope you okay.
beigebrownblue · 12/08/2021 09:16

Been up since 6.a.m. tidying kitchen and trying not to pace up and down.

Her Majesty is off and en route to school at 9.30 for 10 a.m. pickup.

Will wait for phone call as she's got to stay on to hand some things out for the leavers.

I have twins. One did slightly better than expected (9 x grade 9 & 2 x grade 8) and one slightly worse (1 x grade 9, 2 x grade 8, 6 x grade 7, 1 x grade 6 & 1 x grade 5 as took the lower paper in French). Over the moon for both of them and feel those grades reflect the respective effort put in.

ArtandCoTwin · 12/08/2021 09:09

@TheShriekingCrow my DD a couple of years ago didn’t get the expected grade 7 in Biology and although only one mark off and 6th form said she could proceed to A level it knocked her confidence. She switched to economics instead and on Tuesday got an A* A level and now heading to uni to read economics. So sometimes things change for the better. Yes she was devastated at the time!

Disfordarkchocolate · 12/08/2021 09:07

Ours are in line overall but from previous teacher feedback I thought there would be a could of 9s and a couple of 6s. Instead all 7s and 8s.

Toobuktim · 12/08/2021 09:06

Phew, all good here, results pretty much as expected and he’s on with sorting out 6th form now. Relieved it’s all over for another two years!

Titsywoo · 12/08/2021 09:06

Sitting outside waiting.... 🤞😬

AChickenCalledDaal · 12/08/2021 09:04

Sorry to hear that TheShriekingCow. Hope you can take a breath and have a nice supportive day before working out plan B.

SycamoreGap · 12/08/2021 09:04

8 8s and 1 7 here. He was hoping for a couple of 9s so not over the moon but pretty happy to get his 7 in maths. RE was the only other surprise.

ineedaholidaynow · 12/08/2021 09:02

@TheShriekingCrow can he resit, is there another A-level he can do instead?

DS needs certain grades for his A-level choices and I have a feeling his higher grades will be in different subjects, but he is adamant about his choices. Adding to the stress

ineedaholidaynow · 12/08/2021 08:59

DS is eating a leisurely breakfast, luckily doesn’t have a designated time slot to pick his results up. Am wondering if he has changed his mind about going in

drivinmecrazy · 12/08/2021 08:58

Can I ask those that have their results are they more or less in line with expectations?
We're heading off to school in a few minutes and driving myself nuts with nerves, DD2 as cool as a cucumber though asked me to look presentable in case we have to see teachers if she's not got the expected grades , tempted to put my pjs back on Grin

TheShriekingCrow · 12/08/2021 08:56

Disappointed here. All passes but he can’t do one of his choices for a levels as he only got a 5 in it and needed a 7.

justasyouare · 12/08/2021 08:53

Results in for DTs, all good with a range of 9 - 5 and everything in between!
Mainly 7s so very happy here and enough for 6th form.

Good luck to all!

Iimaginethiswillbefun · 12/08/2021 08:51

Bloody hell we don’t go until 10.30! Well done!

Disfordarkchocolate · 12/08/2021 08:51

All passed with 7s and 8s. Parents very relieved, child very relaxed.

Titsywoo · 12/08/2021 08:47

Leaving in 10 mins. Dd ok but I feel bad for her that she has no friends to open results with. She only has one friend at school and she collects her later. I'm assuming she will come out and open them with me. Good luck to all!

MargaretThursday · 12/08/2021 08:40
@greenlynx those photos are of teens where it is known they’re going to be delighted. All my DC would want privacy too. Thankfully our school emails them out but invites them in too. Best of both worlds.
You may find that if they go in and friends are there they want to stay and open them together.

DD's plan was she would fun in, grab the envelope, come back out and I'd drive a distance away for her to open them in private and then maybe depending on results she would go back to see friends.

When it came to it, I got a text from her to say she was staying in to open with friends, then nothing for about half an hour, when I texted back to say I'd quite like to know her results. I then got a jumble of numbers and letters (she was the year that got both), with no idea which was which, and nothing more until she came running out to say could she go out to celebrate with her friends.

I was very surprised because she had a nice group of friends, but wasn't that attached to them, and she's a very private person.

She did say afterwards that some of her year were very quietly steered away from the main group with parents if they were there. She said it was done very subtly in a "Mr X would like a quick word" or similar, and just moved away. She didn't think anything of it at the time, but realised that they were ones who had disappointing results, especially where it required a change of A-levels.
