Head refuses to reward Year 11’s with a July Prom? Any ideas?

My DC is in Year 11 and is nearly finished 4 weeks of GCSE exam papers - sometimes with 4 papers/day! The Head has decided not to reward them with with their Prom at the end of July! Parents have offered to organise it, and despite numerous emails the Head has said ‘she has nothing further to say on the matter’. She’s even done a u-turn and will no longer give them a last exam-free day of school together and is escorting them off the premises by 11.45am. I am SO upset for her year group, even last year’s cohort had a final day together! I’m not sure where to turn to escalate it? Any ideas? 😡☹️

She won’t give us access to the year group contact details and they leave this Friday ☹️

The children are equally upset at not having a final day together. It just doesn’t make sense when all of this term the Teachers have said they will have it.

What do you do when a Head doesn’t listen to her staff or the students?!

Those aren't excuses. They are sensible.

Mom69 · 16/05/2021 19:09

She says she doesn’t want to do it where everyone isn’t vaccinated and a bunch of other excuses!

The parents at my year 11
DD’s school just arranged it themselves. Why do you have to ask the school? Just arrange it and forget the school.

Our year 11’s have their last exam on the 28th in the afternoon, they leave that day and that is it. It is really shit for year 11’s this year.

One of the schools in a local town has said similar, not organising a prom or celebration party thing. A group of parents have got together and are organising one through the local mums group, school WhatsApp etc etc

Moondust001 · 16/05/2021 18:34

If enough of you want a prom, then do it yourselves. Plenty of places for hire. Personally, I hate the whole US import thing, but if you want it, organise it somewhere else.

Do schools arrange Proms in the UK? We organised our own independent of the school, but that was a few years ago.

SimonedeBeauvoirscat · 16/05/2021 18:32

Surely if the parents are willing to organise it they can do it as an informal thing, if it doesn’t have official endorsement?

00100001 · 16/05/2021 18:32

Just organise one yourself in a location that is anywhere but the school.
How can they stop you?

LunaNorth · 16/05/2021 18:31

Blimey, what have they done?

Or is it Covid?

EducatingArti · 16/05/2021 18:31

Why has she made this decision?
