WELCOME TO PART 3!!

Previously…

PART 1 started by Oceane11plus in July 2020 for the SW London Girl’s 11+ 2021 cohort (pandemic year).
PART 2 continued the journey (exam pandemic panic).

Both Part 1 & 2 quickly reached the MN quota of 1000 posts!

Will PART 3 be our final episode? Keep supportively posting as we make our final decisions on offers, WL movement & starting Year 7 (hopefully post-pandemic)...

@dinosaurinmybelly have you heard of WL moving for DDs at Alleyn's as well ? or is it just for DS ?
we have heard of quite a few DS not taking offers there, but very few DDs.
Thanks

dinosaurinmybelly · 22/03/2021 12:22

Hello - I spoke to a mum yesterday who told me that pretty much everyone at her DS school who was on the WL for Alleyn's have now been offered places. Hope those who were on the WL and keen on Alleyn's have also had positive news.

indimum · 21/03/2021 21:42

Hi all, glad this thread is still going.
DD has also chosen her language . I will wait till summer to buy uniform. Ditto with trial runs. Sadly her school has confirmed there will not be a residential trip for summer term. The new school does some bonding days, not sure about trips. But I think her snd her friends are beginning to think more about New school . Excited and scared a bit , and a bit sad too that they are splitting up .
I have managed to connect with fellow parents and hope the girls can meet soon .

stellagibbons · 20/03/2021 17:05

@Corblimbea yes - ours does a PGL type weekend away at the start of Y7 - DD is really looking forward to it.

Athough we're still hoping she might get to do her Y6 trip (originally September, re-booked for late-May so it might happen!

Corblimbea · 20/03/2021 16:33

We have also been practicing the journey! Though it’s very local for us. We’ve also started thinking about trips and uniform. Does anyone else’s school do a trip at the start of year 7? Feels odd after our girls haven’t had the traditional year 6 trip.

Trialsat11 · 20/03/2021 15:09

The same here. DD has started practising the walk to school in preparation for Year 7 and had taster language sessions .
Our induction event is planned for September and I hope the restrictions are gone by then !

stellagibbons · 20/03/2021 10:14

@Stircrazyschoolmum all good here as well - DD has chosen her Yr 7 core language as well and we've been notified of her house. We'll get the full induction pack by the end of the week I think.

DD is due a growth spurt so I'm holding off on uniform for the time being - I also can't decide how much to get!

Stircrazyschoolmum · 20/03/2021 08:13

@PatoPato Crikey! It’s all getting a bit heated isn’t it?!

How is everyone doing? I’ve not heard much on WL moving but the 14 day cooling off period must be coming to an end (or passed) for many applications now and I guess first terms fees due in a couple of weeks?

All happy in our household. DD got to choose our languages which made it all feel a bit more real. (Haven’t dared buy uniform yet) Keeping fingers, toes and eyes crossed that restrictions get lifted so the induction events during summer term can go ahead. How’s everyone else feeling?

PatoPato · 19/03/2021 17:27

Heads up - looks like there's a WHS place up for grabs reading through another active thread today!

Tr0ubled · 17/03/2021 14:12

@lamsodone not heard a thing, but keeping my fingers crossed that you do as in turn we might too!

Iamsodone · 17/03/2021 12:28

just checking in again if anyone has heard of waiting list moving (for instance following the deadline for acceptance of state school places on Monday? Thanks

Globaliser · 16/03/2021 20:50

Putney High and Francis Holland SS both look like brilliant schools.

hopingforabrighterfuture2021 · 16/03/2021 20:19

Hi all,

I was a very prominent poster on last year’s thread, (have changed user name now!) and just wanted to pop in and say hello!

To those who have chosen Putney High- you won’t be disappointed! We have been so impressed and also turned down a more academic ‘bells and whistles’ school (LEH) plus others in favour of PHS, and I don’t regret it at all! Good luck to all the girls.

eglantine7 · 14/03/2021 11:01

What a good idea. If anybody has a dd or ds joining IPS in year 7, would love to be in touch and please do DM me. We know nobody joining there from dds school but feeling so positive about it now.

mybabyangels · 13/03/2021 15:33

Wow! I wish I had joined this thread earlier - such a supportive one! After much deliberation on the ISEB school offers, we finally settled on PHS and would love to join a WhatsApp group for mums - it would be lovely for the girls to meet (if possible) over the summer once the lockdown is over. Mine is a little anxious about moving to a new school and she will only know 1 other girl currently.

Avebury · 07/03/2021 10:28

Of course - let me work out how to do it and I'll be in touch

eglantine7 · 07/03/2021 08:37

Hi Avebury, can you be more specific? Perhaps we can pm.
I just want to add I will be using the prep as a way of entry to the senior. ie we are not expecting 11 plus preparation for other senior schools.

Avebury · 06/03/2021 19:59

@eglantine7 IPS is a good school with lovely children and parents but I think you are looking for a prep place too. Be aware that the current acting prep head has just been given the permanent role and many are unhappy about it. I have friends looking to move asap as a result of that decision.

WarmAndco3y · 06/03/2021 12:20

Thank you all it’s really been a rollercoaster and I share lots of emotions expressed on this thread. It’s been really supportive and helpful in putting things into perspective, when it would’ve been difficult IRL to talk about this and get people to understand.

@Tr0ubled I really identify with you, it’s so not about league tables/academics etc, but about DD’s character, the opportunities, clubs etc she has expressed interest in ( having said that there is one thing the school we’ve ended up with offers that 1st choice doesn’t and I’ve been using this to try and sway her feelings). It’s also about how it would’ve worked perfectly for the family dynamics. I too had hoped there would be a lot of WL movement even though I did suspect, somehow, they would’ve tried to compensate for the challenges.

@HeliK I wish your DD the best at BHS, @eglantine7 yours the very best at IPS. I hope they settle nicely and find things they love and make lovely friends that will make all this inconsequential.

@Iamsodone all the best to your DD too, glad you are all feeling happy with your choice. Like you, for me, it’s the fact that DD is not excited that kills it for me, she told me she was disappointed in herself, honestly it broke my heart. All her older siblings got into their first choice schools and were really excited, and she is very aware of this. On the plus side we got an email from JAGS, saying she did very well and she should be proud of her achievements and they believe would thrive in the school etc. It’s unfortunate they couldn’t go to their WL, in the past they would’ve been able to put smiles on faces of some on WL etc. They had their largest number of applicants ever and the competition was fierce. They will leave her on WL till September because occasionally, and esp due to Brexit and the pandemic this year, they get some movement. I initially didn’t want to show her the email because I didn’t want to raise her hopes again, and really want to focus on getting her happy and if possible excited about her new school. But I felt I had to show it to her, to lift her spirits. It did lift her spirits and we’ve swiftly moved on to looking at opportunities for her in her new school, visiting, the site. Etc. We will drive down today and take a walk down the path.

@Oceane11Plus, thanks for your kind words

@GoldenRuby and @indimum yes thanks walking down the path is what we will start with. We know a few people in the school and some that have left. And they’ve all had or are having a wonderful time there.

Yesterday we celebrated with DD and just had fun together as a family. You are correct she will be fine. I also now need to get excited as well ( obviously DD doesn’t realise this is WIP for me too).

This has ended up being longer than I planned Smile

Tr0ubled · 06/03/2021 11:45

@Lamsodone, I’m so sorry to hear you didn’t get yours either. I had built myself up to think that all the over applications would result in much more movement into WL this year, but seems I was totally wrong. It has been so hard to know how to manage DD’s expectations (and mine!).
I am sure both our DD’s will thrive in the schools they have and in time this will just be a distant (slightly traumatic) memory! X

Iamsodone · 06/03/2021 10:09

No we didn’t get good news.
OH and I are happy enough with what we have. But DD isn’t very excited about it as much which is a heartbreaking.
The WL options appeal more to her as they are higher in league tables/prestigious but they both come with negatives, so on balanced we are doing ok.
I just hope she warms up to it when things get back to normal, the induction process starts.
I have plans for a few things which I hope will help bonding mentally with the school.
If one of WL was calling next I would still think seriously about taking it !

Tr0ubled · 06/03/2021 09:53

Thanks Lamsodone, I do think I need to focus more on what we do have rather than lament what we don’t; it’s just hard as there is still that carrot dangling....
I think I remember you were on WL too, did your DD get good news? I hope so.

Iamsodone · 06/03/2021 09:34

@Tr0ubled
The 14 days cooling off period can still allow some movement plus the state allocations will be evolving over time.
This being said most schools have a variety of characters and range of abilities, you may be surprised by the opportunities available at the school you have accepted already.

eglantine7 · 05/03/2021 22:44

@GandTtime This is so good to hear. We didn't get a chance to visit IPS and it means so much to me to hear happy parents. I've spoken to a few of you now and it sounds so positive 😊
@Tr0ubled fingers crossed for you! Ideally with an offer from your 1st choice or even coming to feel your offer is much better than you anticipated. Do keep us posted xxx

Tr0ubled · 05/03/2021 16:13

@thankyou all for your support, it’s really appreciated.
We confirmed an indie option earlier this week and whilst it’s a good one it’s not as ideal for DD as her waitlist schools would have been. Not really to do with academics but to do with her character and interests.
Still keeping every crossed that there is some movement but from what I read here it seems a hard year to gauge and I think most schools have filled from their offers and not needed the WL.
