Hello all, this thread continues from the previous "Upcoming Girl's Independent SW London Schools 11+ Exams" thread set up by @Oceane11Plus.

@PatoPato cleverly noticed, message slots were running low for the epic long thread as above, so all chat now continues here...

@rolloutthebarrel

Just to add, my DD is at WHS. She got a WL place as did a couple of her friends. When we accepted it a few people commented that DCs who get in on WL's often struggle. We haven't found this to be the case at all. It's a numbers game at the end of the day. If you're on the WL they basically think you's be fine! (With probably the caveat that at WHS you do need to be in the right 'zone' if they are basically putting everyone on the list!). The registrar is super helpful and will let you roughly where you are. DD is in Year 9 and the wait lists for all the schools started to move rapidly after the state school offers. Not much before.
That's so helpful @rolloutthebarrel! Thanks for sharing. I am feeling so anxious about tomorrow! Trying not to let DD see that - we have never at any point openly expressed a preference for any of the schools, so that she feels happy with wherever she ends up going.

Has anybody received a waitlist letter for LEH or are those likely to be sent tomorrow? Thanks for the info re-WHS. It is all rather nerve wracking!

user1468662588 · 04/02/2021 14:14

Thanks for this, such a bloody process.. I just want closure on the whole 11+ school jazz.

Lockdown2021 · 04/02/2021 13:46

You do need to be in the top 3rd of the WHS waitlist (not top 3 spots) to stand a chance. They will go to waitlist and there will be a lot of movement (esp after state school places come out). Two years ago there was still movement in July on the WHS waitlist. Don’t panic if you don’t get a place immediately, they tend to offer conservatively.

SpecialC · 04/02/2021 13:41

@NoToMisogyny and @EnnaBella - yes that's my point about there likely being no hope unless you are in top tier of the WL...

NoToMisogyny · 04/02/2021 13:33

My friend works at WHS and when I said it was fab that everyone would get at least WL place she said that was a polite/ kind way of saying no. Unless you’re possibly in the top three spaces. Definitely a nicer thing to be able to tell DC though.

EnnaBella · 04/02/2021 13:17

@NoToMisogyny

Yea but surely putting everyone on the waiting list is just a polite way of doing the same as saying ‘no’?
This is what I'm thinking..
Stircrazyschoolmum · 04/02/2021 13:13

@EnnaBella. This is what’s said on the WHS website...

“We hope to place all candidates who are invited back to our Creative Assessment but do not subsequently receive an offer onto our waiting list.

This waiting list is split into thirds to give you an indication of where your daughter is placed. Unfortunately, we cannot indicate exact positions on the waiting list or how many offers we will be able to make to the girls on our waiting list because this number varies every year. A girl’s place on our waiting list will be valid until a year after the assessment date. After this, candidates will be asked to attend another assessment in order to be considered for any future vacancies.“

It supports what @SpecialC has seen but like @LittleBlackBear says, it’s an unusual year.

Well done to those receiving LEH offers! Do you think the GHS deadline has pushed them to release early?

DrRamsesEmerson · 04/02/2021 13:03

Congratulations on the LEH offers - very exciting!

LittleBlackBear · 04/02/2021 12:54

@Sabdav11Plus

We got LEH offer as well. I was expecting it next week!
Congrats to you and @redexrt123 too! Good luck to everyone wait for LEH post..

@dazedandconfused11plus I think WHS emails are supposed to come tomorrow (5 Feb)

LittleBlackBear · 04/02/2021 12:51

@SpecialC - that's interesting (and promising!) re WHS - their website does suggest that too but I wasn't sure if it would still apply this year. Which email are you referring to? I don't remember seeing one that made reference to the wait list x

Sabdav11Plus · 04/02/2021 12:39

SpecialC · 04/02/2021 12:22

Crossing fingers for everyone who is waiting for a response from LEH!!! May the envelopes be large ones!

SpecialC · 04/02/2021 12:21

@EnnaBella

Afternoon All, I was speaking to a colleague who has advised a child can't fail the 2nd stage WHS assessment per say, they would just go on the waiting list as the main deciding factor is the academic assessment. This didn't sound quite right to me, as i thought the school revise numbers through the 2nd assessment process then re-evaluate to decide upon offers?
This is what one of WHS's emails imply - i.e. you either get a place or go onto the WL - they don't simply say no. Apparently they also tell you if which of 3 tiers you fall into on the waiting list. My guess would be that only the upper WL has a realistic prospect of eventually getting a place, but that is just a guess...
dazedandconfused11plus · 04/02/2021 12:17

Wow, have LEH letters already gone out??? Our post has already come but nothing!

Also, when should we expect to receive emails and letters from WHS - will it be both?

Good luck to everyone!

EnnaBella · 04/02/2021 12:16
@SpecialC - based on last year, we got a WHS letter on the Friday morning and a confirmation email in the afternoon. Good luck!
This is useful
to know x

EnnaBella · 04/02/2021 12:13

@redexrt123

Offer from LEH in the post this morning. Wasn't expecting to hear quite so soon.
Good Luck

The anxiety is sooo real right now!

LittleBlackBear · 03/02/2021 20:13

Too many!!

Stircrazyschoolmum · 03/02/2021 19:55

How many hours is it till Friday?!?

dinosaurinmybelly · 02/02/2021 16:33

Sounds like a good sign to me Yossahughes. Really thoughtful. DD also appreciated the good luck postcard from PHS at the beginning of the process. These little things make an impression on a 10 year old.
