Hello all, this thread continues from the previous "Upcoming Girl's Independent SW London Schools 11+ Exams" thread set up by @Oceane11Plus.

@PatoPato cleverly noticed, message slots were running low for the epic long thread as above, so all chat now continues here...

Hee hee love how it hasn’t printed what I wrote before ‘off’!! I actually just put 4 stars; you can input what you like..!

Tr0ubled · 11/02/2021 14:19

Congratulations to those with offers today from JAGS. Nothing for us as not one we applied to. Just waiting to hear about 3 schools tomorrow 😫

@MumsRule20 I am with you on the anxiety front, and just when I manage to push it to the back of my mind DD comes to me with a million questions of which school? What if she gets no offers? Where would I like her to go? What if the postman doesn’t come tomorrow? How many hours till he should come?! etc.....
trying to keep her nerves in check - actually it helps because in reassuring her that she is awesome and the world is hers for the taking wherever she goes I remind myself of the same. (And then I find myself thinking that if any school doesn’t want her it’s their loss and then can off!) Ahh the many stages of anxiety!!

Oceane11Plus · 11/02/2021 14:03

@MumsRule20 Sorry to read how you are feeling. You've been so positive and have been cheering all of us up during this process but it's normal to feel this way. I don't know why but I personally feel drained today after the excitement this morning. Hope to feel better tomorrow after a good night.

SouthLondonMommy · 11/02/2021 13:47

@MumsRule20 yes, you have my sympathies and do hang in there. I think covid stress on top of school stress is taking its toll on all of us!

Stircrazyschoolmum · 11/02/2021 13:21

@MumsRule20 I’m sorry to hear you are feeling tired, stressed and anxious, I think there are lots who feel the same, tomorrow has been a long time coming and this year of all years with all the change and uncertainty has been particularly tough on parents. (((Big Hug))) Remind me which schools you are waiting for and if you have a favourite? xx

Stircrazyschoolmum · 11/02/2021 13:15

Wow! The thread has moved on fast!

Congratulations @Brot64 that’s a big achievement and nice to have one in the bag as you say. I can see be logic of having 2 at the same school though.

@stellagibbons commiserations but your DD did so well to get selected for it! I wonder if not having the ‘golden chalice’ helps clarify your thinking in a way as you are not accepting because of the scholarship but on school merit?

I’m in a right muddle and I’ll try not to go on and on about it as it will be infuriating for anyone on waitlist. PHS has a full day of offer holder events tomorrow so that’s DD’s homeschooling sorted! We’ll drive to all the campuses and walk round them over the weekend. I found the JAGs offer letter quite cold and formal (emphasis on payment and acceptance) but I can’t judge such an amazing school on a single communication... so all in the air!

GU21Mum · 11/02/2021 12:33

Congratulations to all with the JAGS offers 👍

eglantine7 · 11/02/2021 12:32

@Oceane11Plus that was fantastic Jags did that and a way to show off some creative skills and individuality.

Oceane11Plus · 11/02/2021 12:15

Thanks @eglantine7 JAGS was an ISEB school but the assessment was a bit broader as there was also a creative writing task and the school interviewed everyone so I presume unlike PHS and G&L they did not just look at ISEB marks.

eglantine7 · 11/02/2021 12:08

Congratulations to all with the Jags offers 🥳 It's a gorgeous school and top choices for many of you.

Was this an ISEB school too?

Sending a virtual hug to all those with Dds waitlisted and awaiting positive news. I think we will see movement too and hopefully even some offers tomorrow.

Brot64 · 11/02/2021 11:42

@Oceane11Plus thank you, congratulations on your offers too. Yes I do hope it does.

Jags is not our first choice but we are still grateful to have the offer hopefully choice now. We are waiting for Emanuel, LU, SPGS, SCHS, CLSG and QCL. Our first choice is SPGS. Older DD is already there so logistically it would work best. DD's first choice is Emanuel because many of her school friends applied there. At this rate we are just glad we got something, especially after the interview rejection from G&L which is another we had applied to last minute thanks to the ISEB.

Oceane11Plus · 11/02/2021 11:31

@Brot64 Wow that's amazing! It bodes well for other schools you have applied to! Which ones are you waiting for and do you have a favorite?

Brot64 · 11/02/2021 11:10

@stellagibbons thank you. Yes, it's an academic scholarship.

stellagibbons · 11/02/2021 11:07

@Brot64 - fantastic news! What a relief - was that an academic scholarship offer?

Brot64 · 11/02/2021 10:51

@MumsRule20 thank you. Dd is still unaware but, yes I am so happy and relieved. The wait continues for the rest but it's comforting to at least have the one offer.

MumsRule20 · 11/02/2021 10:47

@Brot64 Amazing, amazing news!! Super thrilled. Well done to DD. You must all be so very happy.

@SouthLondonMommy to add if any insult has been caused it comes strongly from your last post to me as you talk about “my projections” “I am way off base”.

I think there is enough press coverage to justify where I am coming from and I speak from personal experience as a parent and mother heavily invested with years of helping disadvantaged kids at a state school. Over and out.

MumsRule20 · 11/02/2021 10:43

@SouthLondonMommy

Sorry didn’t mean for it to have such an effect or to cause any personal upset. It was meant generically and not a personal judgement on you at all. Just because you said you could comfortably afford private. I feel rather strongly about the subject and hence why you have taken it as a projection. As I said it is a contentious subject and prob best not on this thread. Rather stick to our topic of those of us who are currently in the 11+ crunch time.

I am very tired and anxious waiting for results so forgive how I might come across to you. Not personal.

We got a scholarship offer for JAGs. So relieved. Hoping for positive news for everyone still waiting today and tomorrow.

SouthLondonMommy · 11/02/2021 10:27

With all due respect @MumsRule20 you don't know anything about our family and I suspect you are projecting your own situation onto us. We are not gentrifiers and have no cause to feel guilty about considering state school for our kids.

I've PM'd you (as I don't want to post personal details) but you are way off base on a number of fronts.

MumsRule20 · 11/02/2021 10:07

@SouthLondonMommy Now that you mention you have the comfortable means to afford private then then I would say 100% free up the state school place at the outstanding state for one of many disadvantaged children for who deserve the chance of a decent education and cannot ever afford the privilege of a private school. It is unfair that children cannot even get a place at their own local schools because of gentrification in oversubscribed areas. So many knock on effects to a single school place being taken away from a less fortunate family.

I ought to have said this initially. I know it is a controversial subject matter in itself and also considered unfair by many that state school places at the outstanding schools get taken up by those who can otherwise afford private. I don’t think it is morally right and would urge you / anyone should they take up such a place at a state school, then please ensure you contribute generously and continuously - personal funds, skills and time. I can’t tell you how proud that will make your child too.

Re: you asking is worth paying to avoid stress later. I would say there really is no way of knowing as there may be none. So subjective and dependent on situation at the time. This year has been unlike any other due to Covid and so many changes around the process to contend with.

As for the 11+ stress for us, DD has not shown any signs of nerves or anxiety around any of it, other than natural resistance to do more work than necessary at times. She has loved every interview and exam and breezed into it all. She would have happily done more she said. It is also her who wanted the opportunity and to be able to go to a school where she can learn more, have varied facilities etc. I think she is just up for a different experience or else has seen it like an experiment?! To be honest how we pay for it is another thing.

@Oceane11Plus our first choice is still JAGS I think - DD doesn’t seem bothered about not getting the scholarship at all!

@Brot64 - hopefully you’ll hear soon and it will be good news.

Jige · 11/02/2021 09:52

SouthLondonMommy sent you a pm.
Been lurking on this thread, well done to all those that have received offers and good luck to the rest!!!

Brot64 · 11/02/2021 09:30

@MumsRule20 we are still waiting. No email here either of offer (scholarship) or rejection. My nerves are at their end. Congratulations to all those with offers.

MumsRule20 · 11/02/2021 09:28

Amazing news on the offers coming in. Well done.

@Oceane11Plus you must be so very happy as your ideal choice for closeness to home.

@Stircrazyschoolmum you have tough decisions to make. Have you managed to get enough info together? Remember instincts too. What does DD think?

@stellagibbons fantastic news and don’t be disheartened by no scholarship. DD did amazing to have been up for it and get a place regardless.

@Brot64 miss your posts - know you are waiting to hear and have all fingers crossed and hope your DD gets the scholarship.

Anyone else I have missed off today? Can’t recollect beyond above!
