Are you doing anything for your DC to celebrate the day??!

We were meant to be going to Majorca AL for a week.

That was to relax and celebrate all the hard work etc not just results.

However obviously no holiday now and considering CAGs don't count it's purely what a computer decides statistically you should get dependent on your ranking - we will wait until the day now to decide if we are celebrating (his mocks were very good and so was his module assessments).

If all goes well for him then will certainly be going out to celebrate. Even if it's just celebrating the relief Grin

No celebration planned. Having just gone through a stressful couple of days with DS having to go through clearing to get a uni place after 2 of his A levels were downgraded, I am just hoping my DD gets what she needs for her selective 6th form place. I think there is going to be carnage on Thursday ☹️☹️

@catspyjamas123

Isn’t it a bit premature to plan celebrations? I’ve set aside the day for dealing with tears and upset - after what has just happened with the A levels. Nobody can be sure how it will go. DD wants to move schools for sixth form and needs a certain number of points. She was predicted more than that but what will the algorithm do. IF all is OK then we will celebrate at home because of Covid. I haven’t bought anything in advance.
We're not celebrating the results as such - it's in recognition of all the hard work beforehand really. I stopped awarding for good results in about Yr3 when DD would get 20/20 for spellings despite only spending 30 mins beforehand each time then not knowing most of them the following week. I started praising and rewarding the effort that went into it - no surprisingly her grades went up and she remembered the stuff she had learnt for a lot longer.

The Apple watch will be a massive shock to her, as I said she would have to wait until birthday/Christmas for it so I'm excited to give it to her at the meal a few days later :-)

I offered Ds1 to book him a posh lunch/dinner. And to buy him something to celebrate, like a ...... ring, a belt... something.

He said he wasn't sure.

Then announced he's going to a party at his closest friend, the 6 of them!

Not necessarily celebrating but I think they all deserve a lot of praise what even their results, it’s been such a stressful time for them so I think they deserve a treat just to mark the end of the GCSE stress. Luckily dd has her 6 form place already but I understand others may not be so lucky and if that the case they need reassuring that it’s not the end of the world and that we are still very proud.

We will probably eat out or get a take away (dd a bit worried about eating out). We are going away for a couple nights on the 25th but I don’t think dd will see camping as celebrating 🤣

Schmedz · 15/08/2020 09:18

DD earned a new phone (as this was what she really wanted) and we are going to eat out the day before (loving 'Eat Out to Help Out'!!) , just in case she feels upset with her results on the day - she will be spending time with some friends after they collect their results (hopefully to celebrate with each other!).

Did something similar for DD1 this week with A-Level results...

Heifer · 15/08/2020 09:14

I have bought DD an Apple Watch (she doesn't know) to celebrate her years of hard work.

Also booked her favourite restaurant on the Monday after results as by then I figured she would have seen all her friends and would be free.

On the day both DH and are free but I know she will want to see friends during the day then has an outdoor birthday get together with non school friend in the evening. So I think it will be more of us being a taxi service rather than celebrating with her on the day. Which is fine.

surprisefrog · 15/08/2020 08:12

We've booked to go to a local restaurant the evening before the results come out, partly so we can take advantage of 'Eat Out to Help Out' but also because DS will be spending time with his friends on the day. Plus, it means the actual results are arbitrary to celebrating the end of an era!

frustrationcentral · 13/08/2020 09:47

Nope! DH has taken the day off in case DS wants to do something, but I think it's more likely he'll want to see his mates which is fine by us. DS goes to school in the next city so we'll all travel together to go and get the results, although parents aren't allowed on the grounds and there's no parking allowed so not sure where we'll go!

EasilyDelighted · 13/08/2020 09:42

I think the most likely thing for us is meet friends in the afternoon and a takeaway of DS's choice in the evening (he's too anxious about Covid to eat in a restaurant ATM) but it really does all rest on how he feels after getting the results. He's a borderline 3/4 in English which really matters and he's really worried about, so although I agree about celebrating the effort not the result he's not going to be in the mood without that precious 4.

123rd · 13/08/2020 09:30

I asked if we could book something but DD wants to celebrate with mates. Fair enough. There hasn't been very much fun for them so we can do something for her later

Alsoplayspiccolo · 12/08/2020 18:15

We’ve got a table booked for dinner at one of DD’s favourite restaurants.
Regardless of results, she deserves to celebrate the last 2 years of hard work and stress.

Cherryonthetop2019 · 12/08/2020 18:12

We have a table booked for lunch at The Ivy. We want to mark the end of 2 years of hard work and determination for DD. The grades are part of that but not all of what the day is about.

EasilyDelighted · 12/08/2020 18:10

We're not making any plans till we've seen the results.

Ron1984 · 12/08/2020 18:09

Celebrating results day I mean!!!
