I think it will be pupils trying to up to 4s and 5s but also a section who were expecting 9s and were aggrieved not to get them. I think there will be ‘humps’ in the grading.

ClarasZoo · 12/07/2020 15:12

I don’t mean easier. I mean easier to get a grade 9 in..

ClarasZoo · 12/07/2020 15:07

Apologies if this has been discussed before but I’ve not read the whole of this thread. I was wondering the other day whether the exams in October will be easier . the reason I say this is because presumably anyone who gets a grade 9 or an a star awarded now will not bother to resit the exams in October. this means that there will be a top slice of children who might otherwise have got an eight or A but will now be at the top and get a nine or a star. how do you think the exam board is going to cater for this or perhaps they won’t?

FoolsAssassin · 12/07/2020 06:27

Fiddlers I feel the same . I was aware that weed was around and know that’s more damaging now than when we were young as more THC now. A friend works in mental health and had been saying about that. But I had naively though it would be that.minstead I have been learning about County Lines and how we have a drug problem here since drug outreach services were axed in 2016.

We are a leafy market town and whilst I knew drugs are everywhere and can be bad in more rural areas it’s a big shock that someone who was in classes with DS has died from them and the fact that it has just happened by you as well highlights the fact it can happen everywhere and we need to stop assuming it doesn’t happen ‘in places like this ‘ as I stupidly did and talk to our kids. Hopefully all of ours are sensible enough not to try but these are weird times and people act in unexpected ways sometimes. And once can be enough.

@FoolsAssassin I haven’t heard anything about arrests or anything.
You’re right though, there will always be another dealer.
It’s not about me at all but I do feel very naive to the fact that this is even around 16 year olds.

Monkey2001 · 11/07/2020 13:03

Have not read all of this yet, but an interesting report from the select committee reviewing the process for awarding grades this year. The bit that interests me is that OFQUAL have to look at each group to ensure the algorithm has not been unfair - as I have a DS in this who, like most boys including his brother, would have upped his game in the final months, I would be pleased to see them making sure that the approach did not cause a drop in boys' results, although he will just accept it if that is what happens as GCSEs will not matter nearly as much as A levels.

Fiddlers have they made any arrests ? Just looking at our local FB page and they have arrested 3 lads, 2 year 11s and one the year above by the look of it and an older woman who lives further away so looks like they are trying to have a go at the supply chain. But reality is will just cause a vacancy for others to move in.

It's shocking and my heart goes out to the parents. What a waste.

FoolsAssassin · 11/07/2020 08:45

Oh Fiddlersgreen, how awful there’s another one. really sobering . What a bloody waste of life.
DS isn’t going back to the school but feel really sorry for those who are. School are opening so anyone who needs support and counselling can go in.

This is the 4th death of students from the school in 6 years now, the other 3 were suicides. It scares the shit out of me frankly.

Monkey2001 · 11/07/2020 01:31

@Fiddlersgreen sorry to hear that. Those are the sort of deaths you only expect to see on the news, having direct experience must be awful. Flowers for you too.

OrangeCinnamon1 · 10/07/2020 22:20

So sad @fiddlersgreen and @foolsassassin. It just takes the one tablet Sad

Fiddlersgreen · 10/07/2020 21:40

@FoolsAssassin I thought we must be the same school for a second then I saw it was a girl who died.
We lost a boy from our school last week, same thing, just one bad tablet.
It’s so sad and my heart breaks for his parents.
DS didn’t know him very well but some of his now close friends were good friends with the boy back in primary school.
A group of them are going to stand by his house to watch the funeral cars leave as a mark of respect as they obviously they can’t attend the funeral itself

Wheresthebeach · 10/07/2020 18:19

That’s so awful. Those poor parents.

Monkey2001 · 10/07/2020 18:03

Such a sad thing. I remember when I was in Y11, a diabetic boy went out to celebrate his 16th birthday, had some drinks, did not take his insulin and died.

Puts the GCSE angst into perspective and must be awful for all the people around her, including the whole year group even if they were not friends. Flowers

FoolsAssassin · 10/07/2020 17:32

Don’t worry Umbrella, figured you hadn’t seen it. Don’t want to put downer on the thread but thought it might be something to talk to the DC about.

The summer of discovidtent

Love it! 😉😀😉

FoolsAssassin · 10/07/2020 17:14

It’s a girl and yes very sadly I do mean died. I don’t know her, some friend’s DD’s do and it sounds as if may have been using for a bit. Have heard a couple of things , one is that was an adverse reaction to one tablet rather than an overdose. Incredibly sad and a very strong reminder to the other DC that it can just take one tablet.

frustrationcentral · 10/07/2020 17:13

It was all a load of twaddle really, I woke DS up especially to listen to it!

Monkey2001 · 10/07/2020 17:07

@FoolsAssassin that is terrible - when you say lost, do you mean he has dropped out of the group or that he has died? Do you think the virus affected his mental state or has he been off the tracks for a long time?

FoolsAssassin · 10/07/2020 16:44

We’ve just lost one of DS’s year group to drugs . It’s so sad.

‘Keep picking yourself up and trying again’.
Let’s hope that’s not a nod to August and being floored, yet again.

Given Cumming’s love of a 3 word slogan, there’s going another ‘re-‘ word added to resilience and rebuilding.

Zandathepanda · 10/07/2020 11:27

Redsky thank you. For a minute I thought he was going to offer them all a free slap up McDonalds/Nando’s and beer on the very probable off-chance they would create a bit of herd immunity for September (not that he would admit to that of course). Dd is shielding and is getting fed up of seeing photos of Yr11 not social distancing on her phone. I did say that if they all get it it’s better for her in September but she’s still fed up.
