Uniform Blazer pocket doesnt fit logo badge

Faultymain5 · 01/09/2019 17:46

Where should I sew it.

DH suggested opposite side of the pocket (where there is no pocket).
I'm thinking one of the lower pockets where the badge does fit.

It just needs the badge on the blazer, the notes do not specify where, but it really doesnt fit the top blazer pocket where it would normally go.

I think you may find this blazer gets 'lost' fairly quickly.

DonPablo · 01/09/2019 19:16

I don't but the school uniform shop blazer either. They never quite fit my ds properly and by god they virtually crackle as he walks. And they're upwards of £60!

The school office sell the badges separately (a fiver) and this year we went to the sales and got him a £130 blazer from m and s in the sale for £8. Much comfier, much better fit, and totally 'allowed'. Although the badge is a regular size!

Try taking the pocket off and sew it where its supposed to go, don't sew it somewhere else, that is asking for questions and bullying.

MidweekObscurity · 01/09/2019 19:16

Since it can just go anywhere and doesn’t specify where, why not sew it on the back so she can look like a hells angel?

"Since it can just go anywhere and doesn’t specify where, why not sew it on the back so she can look like a hells angel"

😂😂😂😂😂

ShirleyPhallus · 01/09/2019 19:10

@SparklyMagpie me too! Makes me laugh every time!

Fruityb · 01/09/2019 19:10

Poor kid.

JoceHark · 01/09/2019 19:09

Yeah you can't just say all done without showing us a pic of the finished blazer

titchy · 01/09/2019 19:02

Sorry, but not having her sat in class focusing on that rather than being as comfortable as possible with both blazer and jumper.

But you're happy to have her in class dreading break and lunch times cos she knows she'll be picked on. Hmm

Faultymain5 · 01/09/2019 19:01

Thanks, all done. True story.

Another vote for buying the school blazer.

Starting secondary school is enough of a challenge, without turning up in a slightly different colour blazer with a hand-sewn badge that doesn't fit the pocket. When everyone is wearing a uniform, small differences are very noticeable.

Most 11 year olds would rather wear the same blazer as everyone else. They don't care about the quality of the fabric (the school ones are usually polyester, which washes well and dries quickly).

I started secondary school with a different ("more practical") haircut to everyone else, different ("well-made") shoes and a different ("better quality, will last") type of bag. I stuck out like a sore thumb and felt self-conscious - it was horrible.

If you can afford the school blazer, buy it.

PerspicaciaTick · 01/09/2019 18:56

How are you going to stop them from discipling her? They won't ask your permission in advance. I'm sure that you may well win an intellectual debate with them regarding the wording of their policy. And you really believe that while you have that argument your DD will be silently thanking you for her marginally less crispy, slightly wrong navy, weirdly badged blazer?

JoceHark · 01/09/2019 18:56

We had a kid at our school called 'stig of the dump' because someone saw her mum go into a charity shop.

She was called stig of the dump for the next three years.

Kids are fuckers, talk about handing them ammunition

SparklyMagpie · 01/09/2019 18:55

@ShirleyPhallus 😂😂😂 that's what I was going to quote but thought best not, but that is one of my favourite bits of any stand up, ever!! 😂😂

SparklyMagpie · 01/09/2019 18:54

Wait if she's going to be wearing a jumper under the blazer anyway, then why does it matter if the official one is shit material? Confused

ShirleyPhallus · 01/09/2019 18:54

@SparklyMagpie I love that whole bit he does - “we called a kid Baghdad, because ONCE he wore a bag that his dad bought”

Agree with the others OP. Kids are cruel and you’re setting your daughter up here

Kaykay06 · 01/09/2019 18:52

She’ll be roasting hot sat in a jumper and her blazer
My 14 year old only has a shirt then blazer not a thick wool one just a light one and he wears it in corridors and in and out of school but it’s off in class. He has a uniform one the same as all of the other kids, but the badge comes attached. I just think you’re setting her up to be different on her first sat day, it’s hard enough. Your M&S blazer may be better quality but it’s not the same and the badge is going to look ridiculous if it’s over a pocket or in an incorrect place. Speak to school re issues with blazer fabric. Surely she’ll have a shirt on? Between her and the jumper and a itchy blazer?

SparklyMagpie · 01/09/2019 18:51

It's sad to hear these stories from some PP's

It reminds me of one of my fave stand ups by Greg Davies when he lists all the nicknames kids had at his high school, some for really pointless things lol, but it's so true and I think everyone had these are their school

For a parent to deliberately be setting them up for their teenage years over being stubborn aswell as over something the parent won't be wearing, is quite frankly disgusting

Again I take it with a pinch of salt though Grin

pistolknight · 01/09/2019 18:51

I feel really sorry for your poor child. I don’t understand why you’d contribute to them
Being bullied. Comfort is not equal to how cruel kids can be at school. I hope it works out but I doubt it.

LatteLove · 01/09/2019 18:51

Separately though OP I’d also be fucking annoyed that you were effectively shoehorned into buying a crappy blazer when a blazer in the right colour from M and D plus badge should be a viable option!

Faultymain5 · 01/09/2019 18:50

Busy sewing, but quickly @PerspicaciaTick This is what the school's uniform policy regarding blazers is:

"Navy blazer with [name of school] embroidered badge"

If they put her in isolation for actually having the above....well that would be interesting, wouldn't it?

OP posts:
RitaTheBeater · 01/09/2019 18:50

At my DD's secondary, they have to have a 'uniform card' in that top pocket and they do checks in tutor time to make sure it's there.

LatteLove · 01/09/2019 18:49

@JoceHark “blazer wanker” 🤣 reminds me of my own blazer wanker experience. Me and my sister started a new primary school, the blazer was navy and the one for the previous school had been royal blue. My mum GOT THE BADGE FOR THE NEW SCHOOL AND SEWED IT ON THE ROYAL BLUE BLAZER. God even now all these years later we still cringe when we think about what a pair of tits we looked and felt standing out like a pair of sore thumbs in the playground. THE WORST THING EVER

MidweekObscurity · 01/09/2019 18:48

I'd contact the school tomorrow before chopping any pockets off.

MyDcAreMarvel · 01/09/2019 18:48

What a stupid decision , you have just set your child up to be bullied!

JoceHark · 01/09/2019 18:46

OP yes my childhood was mean. I was mean. But you are wrong about projecting.

Kids are mean. It's a story as old as time. YOU have no right to put your daughter up for that because you don't feel like changing it now. YOU bought the wrong blazer. You are now trying to find a fix for it. The only acceptable fix is going tomorrow and buying her the school blazer and returning that one.

Please OP. Do this for your daughter and listen to all the pp on here who are telling you the same thing.
