Uniform Blazer pocket doesnt fit logo badge

Faultymain5 · 01/09/2019 17:46

Where should I sew it.

DH suggested opposite side of the pocket (where there is no pocket).
I'm thinking one of the lower pockets where the badge does fit.

It just needs the badge on the blazer, the notes do not specify where, but it really doesnt fit the top blazer pocket where it would normally go.

All’s well that ends well then. They’re obviously a very happily individual thinker!

Faultymain5 · 11/09/2019 21:49

@ooopsupsideyourhead. Sorry to disappoint, she's getting on with school. Not caring about her blazer at all.

@WombatChocolate I'll give you I should have found the right blazer. Had the logo first, just depth perception is just not there.

For the record, I did email about the non uniform days before the non uniform day. I didnt randomly send my daughter in her uniform without an explanation. Maybe I hadn't explained that previously.

Hmmm, I think as adults some of us remember well and others don't, how fitting in is really important for children of this age.

I agree with some of what Op says - she isn't flouting the rules because an alternative blazer and sewing on badge is allowed, BUT I think it was then her responsibility to buy a blazer which fits the badge - probably bought the 2 items wrong way round.

Moving the pocket would leave a mark where the old one was and look odd. Badge overhanging pocket would look odd. Most children won't notice or care. Some children wouldn't mind wearing a different version, but most would prefer the standard one. There is no argument in terms of quality or itchiness - they all wear the same and wear a shirt and jumper - blazers are not near the skin. Why wasn't tit possible to return the original M and S blazer for refund and buy the correct one?

It's fine to think some school rules are daft and to contact the school about them (an email is usually fine) and much better to do this than taking matters into your own hands and expressing your views through sending your child in differently to everyone else. So why not just email about the non-uniform days.

I agree that children aren't all totally obsessed about being identical and all children aren't bullies towards anyone different. However, recognising that for this age group, fitting in is a common age-old theme for them. As adults we can po-poo it and say it's ridiculous but we're not 12 and parents do need some empathy for the mindset of children.

aintnothinbutagstring · 08/09/2019 22:44

There's no problem sewing a badge onto a blazer, lots of schools do it. But agree it should be in exactly the right place, otherwise the uniform is not 'uniform' with other students, in photos with those in standard blazers it'll look odd.

ooopsupsideyourhead · 08/09/2019 04:35

Anyone else popping by to see if the kid’s asked for a “normal blazer” yet?!

CallarMorvern · 08/09/2019 01:40
  • so crazy, no idea where no need came from
CallarMorvern · 08/09/2019 01:39

MN is no need and so nasty sometimes. DD's school have their own embroidered blazers, or you can buy your own and sew on a badge. It's no issue ( though our badges fit lol), DD has the schools version and an M&S one, this year she fancied a John Lewis one, as she liked the striped lining in the arms 🤦‍♀️. No one has mentioned it, why would they? She's not the only one.
Really don't worry about it, but see the badge on the right pocket, even if it overhangs, it will look odd if you put it in a different place.

Fruityb · 03/09/2019 18:54

Actually it’s been the thing in every school - blazers on in and out of lessons but I always said they could remove them in class. I insisted on it on when they arrived and when they left however - and they had to wear it moving round school. Some days the announcement would be made that they can be removed all day if it’s too hot but in all honesty I fail to see how wearing it outside would harm anyone in the time between lessons.

ineedaholidaynow · 03/09/2019 10:58

berlin DS goes to a private school so we did chose it!

But to be fair I think most schools which have blazers have the rule that they can only be taken off with permission.

Even in really hot weather DS tends to keep it on, at least it helps him not losing or forgetting it!

Faultymain5 · 03/09/2019 10:21

And parents don't choose their kids' schools so please don't trot out that old trope (go to another school if you don't like it). You get where you're given.

Ain't that the truth, we were offered a school not even on her list!

DS has to wear a blazer at school and they have to wear it all the time, unless the weather is really hot and they are given permission to take it off I can't believe parents put up with this nonsense. If it's hot you take your blazer/jumper off or don't take it into school at all.

And parents don't choose their kids' schools so please don't trot out that old trope (go to another school if you don't like it). You get where you're given.

berlinbabylon · 03/09/2019 10:16

Will kids really care whether someone has the right blazer? I thought they were more bothered about trainers, smartphones etc.

In my final year at primary school we moved house and I went to a different primary for the last term and a half from Feb half term. I wore my old school uniform (presumably the school had said it was ok). None of the kids said anything and they were happy to bully about other things. I really can't believe they care about whether someone has the right school uniform or not"

SarahTancredi · 03/09/2019 10:09

Imagine if detentions and isolation were used to punish all these incredibly nasty children who would bully someone for wearing slightly different clothes, instead of the children wearing slightly different-looking blazers or shoes

Hear hear

Parents arent made of money. Schools tip.us off with logo shit. Its probably far more sensible to but a decent quality blazer that will last, and the badge can be unpicked to pass it on to siblings and that can be returned free in store of faulty. Than paying for delivery and returns and re delivery for an.item that is shit and will need replacing before its grown out of.

I'm personally hoping that some.of these nasty attitudes on the thread are through anger at being conned themselves rather than genuine disgust at someone choosing an alternative option that's specified as allowed on the web site ..

SpinsterOfArts · 03/09/2019 09:54

Some of the arguments in this thread makes me think that schools have it all backward.

Imagine if detentions and isolation were used to punish all these incredibly nasty children who would bully someone for wearing slightly different clothes, instead of the children wearing slightly different-looking blazers or shoes.

longestlurkerever · 03/09/2019 09:21

Again with the dramatics. I have failed to send DD in non uniform twice. Once when they were supposed to have a green t shirt for eco day which was the most ludicrous concept known to man, and once when they sent a particularly twattish message about who was entitled to go and some of us agreed to rebel in solidarity with those who might feel excluded. I didn't force DD, I explained what I thought and said it was up to her. She chose uniform and so did some of her friends. They didn't die of embarrassment. Honestly some people don't have the absolute dread fear of not fitting in that is obviously the case on here. There'll be times when it seems more important to her I am sure but there are ways of downplaying the importance while leaving it in their hands.

Faultymain5 · 03/09/2019 07:36

@MilkTwoSugarsThanks
(and therefore never available in either).

I think this will happen too. Will have to wait and see.

@CalmFizz I'm sorry if my principles dont align with yours. I dont think its c*ish actually. You are however, entitled to your opinion.

CalmFizz · 02/09/2019 13:37

Bloody hell op, that’s one of the most cuntish things I’ve read a mother do to their child. Deliberately sending them in school uniform to prove a point. I’m sure you enjoyed doing that to your poor daughter.

MilkTwoSugarsThanks · 02/09/2019 13:14
  • will be responsible for

Can't even blame autocorrect for that fuckup Hmm

Can Yoda icon we have?

MilkTwoSugarsThanks · 02/09/2019 13:10

Now will have to see how they intend to merge two schools 4 miles apart.

Become part of the same academy trust but retain their own identity or the same SLT responsible will be for both schools (and therefore never available in either Hmm).

ineedaholidaynow · 02/09/2019 10:57

Coco DS has to wear a blazer at school and they have to wear it all the time, unless the weather is really hot and they are given permission to take it off.

Cocoismydog · 02/09/2019 08:31

Do they wear there blazers in class. I would have thought not. The blazer will be worn over a shirt and jumper, so unlikely to be itchy. Unfortunately, you have chosen a school that has a uniform, it really is tough if you don’t like the uniform. If she goes to work at a company that has workwear, she will be expected to conform and wear the same as everyone else. This is the same.

ShirleyPhallus · 02/09/2019 08:30

Gosh this is so weird, why send your daughter in on non-uniform day in her uniform just to make a point to the school. It just totally embarrassed her and didn’t even really make your point.

Poor girl.

I will never understand these batshit decisions. Like the mother who wanted her kids to use clean towels after every use, but would only let them user hand towels after a bath or shower. Even her 15 year old son. Bonkers.

Faultymain5 · 02/09/2019 07:56

Pretty certain this all becomes moot. As I was scrolling looking for pictures of children, I came across a letter from the school dated after school had finished last year (22 July) stating that the school was merging with another (curiously one closer than this one, one we wouldn't consider because of an incident where my ds was threatened with a knife by one of their pupils (he went to a different school, was just in the local chippy). So certain a new uniform will be afoot. Now will have to see how they intend to merge two schools 4 miles apart.

Is all fairly irrelevant where you put it, would put money on it that your daughter will only wear it on day one anyway... after a rollicking from classmates it'll never see the light of day again
