Ds1 has to enrol at 6th form on the same day, but we've thought of booking a table at his fave italian place for lunch.

Arewedone · 10/08/2019 11:18

Realise Dc are not thinking about it mostly But have any of you planned special surprises for results day?

Hoooo · 10/08/2019 09:53

Hello!

Ds1 seems ok atm.

We were chatting about tye history exam the other day and he couldnt remember if the 16 marker was a choice of question...

He genuinely couldn't remember!

As you say, focussing on the next stage probably.

Tbh in my view as long as they get the 5 or 7 passes they need to move onto A level its fine.

Not sure ds1 feels that way!

Sososour · 10/08/2019 09:45

Hi everyone
Popping on with a temp name for gcse results before I slide back into the ether and appear again on the 22nd to action plan /commiserate over /celebrate results with you all. Had to delete old posts
Hope everyone’s dcs not too stressed with the wait? . Have been keeping up with you all.
All okish here. Dd has no idea how she’s done now, It is hard to remember individual exams now is it ? . Dd’s drawn on Smileys on the calendar as we went along will be interesting to see alongside actual grades.
Dd being kept busy with A level bridging work, days out and watching lots of rubbish tv shows.

I don’t know about your dc but Dd seems more focussed on getting enough grades to move on next stage.. all individual marks seem less important now ,as long as that hurdle is jumped
Not long now. I imagine a lot of dcs will struggle to sleep the night / (maybe) nights before.
I for one will be tipping a glass your way on the evening of the 22nd (whatever the results) just because the ride has been easier with this company.

Arewedone · 10/08/2019 05:59

Similar here DS has chosen a limited radius to London. Number of reasons but can’t help wondering if Laundry trips maybe a factor 🤔

ArthursSlave · 09/08/2019 10:40

Michaelahpurple Same here, "Arewedone" lucky, DD really wants to know her English and Biology as they are two A Level choices.

The 3 hour limit for Uni is pretty arbitary and has so many reasons behind it. Logistics definitely, we have been spoilt by DD1 being in Oxford which is a 1 1/2 hour round trip, and a 40 min train ride. DD2 doesn't feel comfortable being too far away. We are in the sunny south and anywhere further than the midlands is cold, wet and miserable (honestly, we notice the difference when we visit DH family in Nottingham, definitely a sweater colder Grin) and DD2 loves the sun and warmth. Exeter is a pig to get to, and would/could be more than 3 hours away, but at least it is warm, so that makes the cut.

Arewedone · 09/08/2019 01:32

Trying to remain upbeat re A levels. DS very calm. Has Oxford offer but confident of his gradeConfused Dd gets Cambridge board igcse results next week then rest the same day as everyone else. She has asked to go to Reading early and just text me her results on the day!

raspberryrippleicecream · 09/08/2019 00:10

We had a very stressful A level results day last year. DD slipped
a grade and went into Clearing, however bad this year is it will not be as awful as that day was.

DS goes to a summer school next week until the day before so that will fill in his time nicely.

Hoooo · 08/08/2019 16:16

Ds1 says he's not sure how he will feel on the day.

I will be a wreck

Bakeandyarn · 08/08/2019 16:06

We are quite chilled at the moment, DD wasn’t nervous during exams but she has said she feels a bit nervous about results. I’m fine and I think that’s because it was A-level results for DS last year with an Oxbridge place resting on them, that was very stressful!

Michaelahpurple · 08/08/2019 16:03

Slightly vexed that FS's school are going to sit on the igcse results due out next week, to release them en masse with the rest on the normal date, but perhaps it makes sense to have a once and for all release.

Why a three hour distance limit for university? Presumably to make logistics more manageable? But if the local options don't have the right course better to extend the journey?

ArthursSlave · 08/08/2019 15:19

Mentioned this to DD last night, she was not impressed. She doesn't want to be reminded/talk about it. Having said that, she does have a count down on her phone Shock.

She has already been looking at university courses, and was in flux last night as she now thinks she doesn't want to do/go where she first thought, and actually she can't really find what she wants. Also the best courses are too far away, we have set a 3 hour limit. We tried to reassure her there is so much time to decide, but you know when they have got the bit between their teeth, and we don't want to discourage her as such...... but honestly, she hasn't even got her GCSE results yet!!

(ps. Its me Silent - lots of name changing going on Wink).

KittyMcKitty · 08/08/2019 11:18

I know- 2 weeks so close yet so far! I just want it to be over - crossing everything that ds gets what he needs and what he feels is reflective of his ability/ effort.

Hoooo · 08/08/2019 09:57

(Its buffy btw!...)

Hoooo · 08/08/2019 07:39

2 weeks today....

Arewedone · 08/08/2019 04:41

@DeRigueurMortis same here re friendship groups , those staying on v those leaving.
Great you sorted out prom and DS enjoyed it, it seems such a long time ago now doesn’t it!
We are waiting for both A level and igcse resultsHmm

DeRigueurMortis · 08/08/2019 02:46

Checking in from abroad!

We don't get results until the 22nd.

DS doesn't want to talk/hear about it...

On the good news front after last minute prom decision, we managed to get him kitted out and he looked brilliant :-) and most importantly had a great time.

On a bit of a sad note, as per my post before the end of exams, the "split" between his friendship group has widened further over the summer (based on where they intend to study further - the Grammar or HE College).

It's very definitely two camps now. Not in a nasty way, rather they seem to be cleaving to the friends they hope/expect to be with over the next few years.

Hope everyone is having a great summer :-)

Arewedone · 08/08/2019 02:20

5 days to first results- gulp

marmiteloversunite · 03/08/2019 16:29

Chocolate I didn't know that existed!! My DD would probably love it as she has loads more than me on her toast!

Iambuffy · 03/08/2019 12:08

Foslady · 03/08/2019 09:37

19 days and counting........

chocolateworshipper · 02/08/2019 23:46

Results this month! Eek!

Out of interest @marmiteloversunite have you tried the new, stronger Marmite? If so, what did you think?

marmiteloversunite · 31/07/2019 08:03

Wow!! What a terrible attitude from the mayor. That is totally disgusting that the young people had put themselves out to achieve something for others and he was so rude!!

Foslady · 31/07/2019 07:13

It’s hit dd this week too. She had a free week at the beginning but that was prom week, then 4 weeks NCS and now a week before we go away. She’s now attempting to hand sew a skirt (we have a perfectly good machine upstairs!!!).
Sadly NCS finished on a sour note - after raising £500 her team did the works requested at a local community daycare centre and on handover day they invited the local mayor who then proceeded to be extremely rude about their efforts telling them that they had wasted their time as they were relying on others to do work (they were asked to provide planting areas as part of the scheme). He wouldn’t accept that the nursery had asked for the works and wanted to be able to plant out (they even bought seeds for them) despite being told this numerous times.
Luckily my local councillor has been more receptive (I sort of know her) and has asked me to send her details so it can be raised with him about how he has trashed not only their work but also the work done by the NCS team building the kids up making them want to put into the community not just take out.....Angry

Iambuffy · 30/07/2019 13:49
