ah ha ha she'd never do that, she's ridiculously squeamish. But I have another child who would love it so thanks for the link!

FreeFreesia · 17/06/2019 11:06

From the left field, could do this in walking distance & become local expert !

Fibbke · 17/06/2019 10:51

The problem is that she can't get anywhere! We have no public transport and no safe cycle routes. Our own fault for moving to a countryside idyll years ago!

I'll keep looking.

Iambuffy · 17/06/2019 10:50

Well, ds1 is up.....

If rural there are wildlife volunteering opportunities in most areas

Apparently the German went well. - best one of them all- phew!
1 down 1 to go!

Fibbke · 17/06/2019 10:27

We are super rural. I think I am going to get her learning to cook and try and get out at least once a week to somewhere local and lovely. I am trying to persuade her to do couch to 5k but she's refusing. She's arranged to volunteer at our local riding for the disabled summer camp (she did it last year and was really good at it and enjoyed herself) so that's something.

gleegeek · 17/06/2019 10:23

Hi all. Dd went off to German very grumpily today! Such poor exam planning - they should be finishing on a core subject IMO so they're all in it together Angry
Welcome losing how have you survived without us??! This group has kept me sane and convinced me to keep my mouth shut to dd about certain things. I'd have had no clue about most of the gcse month as dd is a done it, move on sort of child, without this lot of lovely people!
Sorry for the 2 exams today - that's doubly cruel! Grrrrr.
Hoping dd won't be bored, she quite likes her own company. I suspect there'll be a lot of baking going on and I'll be the size of a house in time for my friend's wedding in Sept 😂 Um...yes how rural are you? Is it cyclable or busable anywhere? I second trying to get a job or volunteering somewhere. It's tough particularly when the weather is so iffy - last year's summer woukd have been a lovely reward for them.

Fibbke · 17/06/2019 10:22

oh marbles your poor ds Sad bet you can't wait until tomorrow

dd is missing revision I think - she feels she has no purpose (she's over dramatic). She has another party tonight, she is supposed to be staying over but I am going to fetch her as she hasn't successfully stayed over at someones house for years - often a panic attack at 3am Sad. So driving an hour to pick her up at 12.30! She really could do with doing a job or volunteering this summer as she is a bright, friendly teen but gets terribly nervous in large social situations, has a small group of very close friends but doesn't do huge parties. She's much happier in bed with a book and her cat but she can't do that all summer!!

LosingHerMissMarbles · 17/06/2019 09:56

Typical that I find you all just as it's coming to an end!
Last two days here. German this morning and it's so comforting to hear that others thought the Reading was so awful. My poor DS cried, first and only time in the whole exam season. Anxious about this morning's writing but he's also weary now and just wants it all to finish. Maths tomorrow then we are done.
Hopefully now I've found you I can keep up with how things go, if that's alright?

Arewedone · 17/06/2019 09:34

Good luck foslady and to anyone else yet to finish. It feels very odd today but in a good way. Dd still in bed.

Foslady · 17/06/2019 09:04

Thanks everyone. After the ‘Mayday’ debacle she’s pretty chilled over the German exam - was predicted a 7 but said she’d be happy with a 6, so kind as she gets the 7’s required for 6th form (wants to do 4 A levels as she wants to upgrade her AS Sociology so they have to get not only the 42 points but also a minimum number of 7’s and above). She had a wobble over the maths yesterday - all the end of topic tests she did at school she aced, came to the mock and she totally bombed it to the point of questioning if she took the exam. I’m hoping it’s just nerves because of that, she’s been doing a bit each day, but also reminding her that this is an extra exam, she has the o level and no matter what it’s as if she’s had an extra years worth of prep for A level maths......

KittyMcKitty · 17/06/2019 08:36

We live rurally, I normally work part time but am working pretty much full time at the moment (prom suit shopping!!). DS either cycles all the way to town (about 45 minutes) or cycles to the nearest bus stop (about 3 miles), chains the bike up and catches the bus.

When she says she’s bored is it just adjusting to not having to revise? Ds says it feels really weird as it was so much of their focus for so long.

Sorry if this has alrady been covered - dd is already bored. Wr live very rurally and i have to work part time so she's a bit stuck. We don't have a huge amount of money. Any suggestions for things she could do?

Iambuffy · 17/06/2019 07:24

Good luck to agirl and fos

1st day of not getting ds1 up for school. So weird!

PosyBaggins · 17/06/2019 07:22

@AGirl all the best for final day, finishing with a two exams day, hard core!

Just Further Maths here, then encourging DD and friends at least to go for a dessert together before we buy the sewing machine... another 'non-partier' here Wink but they've got loads more school bits and pieces over the next fortnight. Hooray for more relaxed starts..

Last day today - Further maths and german.

I am looking forward to not having to be up early every day - not that I can sleep beyond 6:30 anyway, but at least I will have a choice!).

DS has an audition after his exam and then Im drivng him and his mates to a campsite an hour away where they will kick up their heels.

An tomorrow I shall relax

Bimkom · 16/06/2019 23:25

I did read with him a couple of the English Lit ones that we had in the last week before the exam when he was panicking he didn't have enough appropriate quotes.

Bimkom · 16/06/2019 23:24

DS mostly used on line resources and past papers, but did use the revision guides and text books particularly the geography ones that I bought that he had told me not to, but at the last minute gave in and did all of their practice exam questions, as there was nothing on line

Bimkom · 16/06/2019 23:21

DS did use some of the revision guides - school recommended most of the ones we had, mostly CGP, the only ones I bought that wasn't from school recommendations were for geography, where DS kept moaning about there not being enough resources for his obscure OCR B board, and the teaching being poor, but telling me not to spend the money to buy the revision guides/text books., and I just ignored him and bought them anyway, even though there was a bit of detective work involved ot determine what was relevant. The other thing I did was buy the text books, because a) mostly what they give the students is access online to the text book, and not a searchable version, just a turn pages version of the hard copy, and I think it is so much easier and more comfortable to handle an actual book. DS kept telling me I was wasting money and shouldn't but I got the numbers from the online and bought them anyway. b) in the case of those text books they did give out copies (which had to be returned after physics on Friday, they went round ticking that everyone had handed in their lanyard and text books after physics finished) I bought a couple of these so he wouldn't be taking them back and forwards, becausethey made his school bag even more extraordinarily heavy than it already was. DS kept insisting this was unnecessary. I am pretty confident that I was the only parent in the school doing any of these things. Some of the parents were engaging tutors, and the tutors might have recommended/required certain resources, but to actually investigate and work out what was being used or studies and buy own copies of the text book or additional revision guides was a step beyond, which is probably why DS didn't want anybody to know he had such an involved mum, which appears to be even more embarressing than having people know that you actually work for exams.

Iambuffy · 16/06/2019 21:48

Ds used revision guides (but not much)
He mostly used;
Class notes
Oneline resources like thug notes and BBC bitesize.
Past papers - these were probably the most useful tbh.
His school also did "passports" on their particular weaknesses.
I would say the texts/guides used most were:
English lit texts
Maths guide
Biology guide
Geography guide
The rest weren't worth getting really.

Arewedone · 16/06/2019 20:56

She’s predicted all 9s from mocks but honestly I’ve no idea how accurate that is

Arewedone · 16/06/2019 20:55

Dd used Seneca for sciences 100% but found Asian student websites for her exam boards were fantastic for notes.
