I suspect all the 8s are for further maths. No danger of that in our household! (I did the sciences, DD is definitely humanities.)

onaroll · 20/08/2019 14:38

Hooo - thank you !
Where do I find it Confused

Hoooo · 20/08/2019 14:24

Year 12 support thread :)

onaroll · 20/08/2019 14:24

Also , while I'm over thinking.... This thread has been a huge mental support to me throughout the GCSE process. Come September is there plans for us to 'meet' & support each other with the whole starting futher education for our 'little' ones?

Hoooo · 20/08/2019 14:23

Gosh.
So many places need an 8 to do a level!!?
Ds1s 6th form choice requires the usual 5 x 5's inc eng lang and maths then individual requirements for each subject but the highest is 6!
(I think!)
runs off to check

onaroll · 20/08/2019 14:14

I'm starting to get nervy too.
Dd has always done 'well' and everyone feels that her results will just follow on from there, including her.
What if they don't 😱
For her to follow the pathway she wants at her 6th form she needs to get a best 8 of more than 58. So needs 7's or 8's.
Individual subjects chosen at A level: 3 of them require a 7 and 1 requires an 8....
I just am fingers crossed she gets what she needs / what she is expecting as she is her hardest taskmaster .

Arewedone · 20/08/2019 13:25

Dd asked if I thought she was good enough which really made me sad. I think GCSEs are so tough and self worth can’t be defined by a grade!

Foslady · 20/08/2019 12:40

We’ve been away the last two weeks, fly home this afternoon long haul so land tomorrow morning (Wednesday) so a jet lagged day for us so hopefully dd will be to knackered to not sleep! I’ve booked the car in for a service in the town her school is in so up early for that then meeting up with one of her friends at a coffee shop snd into the school for 9am (i’m going to be flagging by the time the car is ready!!). Once enrolled she wants to trawl the next towns charity shops for 6th form (hopefully 🤞}

TheFrendo · 20/08/2019 11:35

Ah, I must have missed that. An 8 for further maths is a much more reasonable requirement.

myrtleWilson · 20/08/2019 11:32

Getting very nervous here.. Dd planning to collect results and come home to open them...

Nousernameforme · 20/08/2019 11:10

It's further maths he wants to do

TheFrendo · 20/08/2019 10:28

Requiring an 8 to do A level maths is a bit excessive. Three students I tutor in maths have just got an A at A level (Edexcel ) after a 7 at GCSE.

Nousernameforme · 20/08/2019 10:11

ds 1 is still asleep here. I have no problem with him playing ps4 all night at moment it's taken his mind off it and the days don't seem to drag for him. Though for me they are flying by

Hoooo · 20/08/2019 09:46

Ds1 out with pils today then dh taking him out weds evening so hopefully should take his mind off it

Nousernameforme · 20/08/2019 09:38

I've been very head in sand about these results, DS has sailed through school and always done very well and been considered bright. In the back of my head is the thought what if he gets too cocky and falls at the last hurdle.
I've woken up today with an Oh shit 2 days to go feeling. He has to get an 8 at least on maths to get on his A level course.
I am walking down there with him half an hour or so after they open he wants to avoid any possible assembly/talk they try and do.

berlinbabylon · 20/08/2019 09:08

DS' school isn't open for results until 10.30!

eggsandwich · 20/08/2019 09:02

Dd said she’s not been sleeping great as results day is almost here.

She’s had a few distractions recently which have taken her mind off it, but she said she’s going in first thing which is 9am as she said she probably won’t sleep the night before and she’s going to walk on her own to try and prepare for it.

Once she’s got her results hopefully good, she’s going to sign up for sixth form but she wants to open them on her own or with some friends so I’ll wait to here, her dad said he will pop home from work once she knows what she’s got them.

She did make me laugh when I said the local papers cover the schools results day, she said I better get up early and put my make up on in case I have my photo takenGrin

berlinbabylon · 20/08/2019 08:46

DS definitely didn't put enough work in but he seems to be one of those annoying people who can wing it. He did ok in his mocks and I said at the time that I would be happy if he replicated those results in his actuals, although I think he could do even better.

Anyway he's reasonably happy about everything except science but he doesn't want to do STEM subjects at A level so as long as he has passed (I'd prefer 5-5 rather than 4-4) it doesn't matter about the grades. Maths and geography were particularly well taught in his school and he found Maths ok (AQA) but is a bit worried everyone else did too so the grade boundaries will be very high.

Ligresa · 20/08/2019 08:04

Dd2 is in a right old state. She's already got igcse English results and got a 9 in literature and a 6 in language. You'd think the world had fallen in with the 6 Hmm

Not sure how she's going to cope if results aren't as amazing as she wants (not realistic that they will be amazing, she struggled with maths and Spanish and science could go either way)

gleegeek · 19/08/2019 23:14

Dd is walking to school to pick up her results with a few friends. She's chosen the least boastful ones and has told them she doesn't want to share results...will see how that pans out! I'll be at home waiting for a phonecall if she needs me to talk to school about anything.
She's so anxious, not sleeping etc so it'll be good to get them and move on. It's been a peculiar summer Confused

Sososour · 19/08/2019 22:49

Thank goodness we are nearly there!

Hoooo · 19/08/2019 21:58

Ds2s turn to worry me silly tonight...
He has his 1st residential in 2 weeks and he is SO anxious about it...
😥😥😥

Arewedone · 19/08/2019 21:47

Dd has told me that I will cry no matter. If grades are high or low , so she had said we need to pack tissues Confused

MaudBaileysGreenTurban · 19/08/2019 20:37

DS is very nervous. I've been away for the last few days and the second I walked through the door this afternoon he started talking about results day. Then again this evening. Bless him.

He is particularly worried about having failed Maths and the Sciences. He only needs 5 passes, with a 5 in English or History and a 6 in Geog. to do the A-levels he wants, which should all be perfectly manageable, but I think panic has taken over.

He knows he didn't work as hard as he could've done and some regret is creeping in. He'll learn from that, though.

God, roll on Thursday!

Hoooo · 19/08/2019 20:31

I'm trying very hard to not show my nerves to ds1...
