Thank you! Just picked her up - she's had a fantastic night with just a few panicky moments. College trial day tomorrow😂
Night all!

marmiteloversunite · 26/06/2019 00:46

Glee she looks gorgeous. Hope she has a great time! I was quite relieved when it was all over. There were a lot of preparations last week. Work experience this week seems easy in comparison!

gleegeek · 26/06/2019 00:09

Kitty glad ds has had a good time. It's all a huge build up to a relatively short event 😂

gleegeek · 26/06/2019 00:07

All lovely here. Dd currently at after prom - watching a film in a tent in friend's garden. Phew!
Hopefully photo attached - dd on the right Smile

ah glad that DS is having a great time kitty

KittyMcKitty · 25/06/2019 22:22

Glee hope your dd has a great night. Ds has been to pre’s and prom and is on his way to the after party and seems to be having fun.

myrtleWilson · 25/06/2019 20:23

glee hope DD has an amazing night!

Binkom - happy sorting... we still have a drawer full of proper childrens books under the spare bed - am not sure I'll ever be getting rid of those!

Second day of work experience done and DD is a bit more lively tonight - its 8.20 and currently no sign of falling asleep on the sofa! Am actually quite impressed how much she appears to be enjoying work experience - she's such an anxious sort and this is pushing her boundaries so need to remind her how much this will do for her confidence..

Iambuffy · 25/06/2019 19:00

binkom when you say "throw away" do you mean donate?

OP posts:
Arewedone · 25/06/2019 18:04

Bimkom- sounds same!! Dd started re reading hunger games series ! Yes divergent and Percy Jackson not ready to give up! Did manage to offload horrible history series

Foslady · 25/06/2019 17:47

Ours is tomorrow Arewedone it’s the manic night tonight!
Hope yours has a great time Glee

Bimkom · 25/06/2019 17:31

Thanks Arewedone. A lot of the books DS has been sorting are not school books but "young adult" fiction, which he has decided he has grown out of. Books like most of the series of the 39 clues, for example, Chris Ryan books , Chris Bradford books, the Hunger games series, the divergent series- oh I don't know what else. He has been a bit heavy handed. One of the books I have rescued is an autographed copy of TJ and the Penalty - one of the series by Theo Walcott. Very influential in getting DS to read, back in the day, so i am not ready to throw these out, even if DS is. Many of them were series that were painstakingly built up. DD has swooped on all the Percy Jackson, but she may well want the Hunger Games series at some later date, so I am reluctant to throw those away. I have a bookcase in the spare room, that I think I will fill with these books and work out what to actually throw away later.

Arewedone · 25/06/2019 16:16

Sorry grammar rubbish as typing whist talking🙃

Arewedone · 25/06/2019 16:15

Bimkom- we have back much of what we could to school, however the additional expensive books I put on eBay expecting no response and have sold 5 within 2 days !
Our school thankfully has a student run initiative as an alternative to depop that counts to ucas points for selling 2nd clothes!

Arewedone · 25/06/2019 16:11

Fos& Glee thinking of you both tonight. Hope your Dc have a fabulous time. I’m sure they will look amazing! Glee for sure is nerves 😘

Bimkom · 25/06/2019 15:31

DS has actually, for the first time in a long, long , long time, been making a serious effort on his room (not just putting piles in corners and claimiing that is tidying). As in, he has gone through everything, including ALL his books, and brought down boxloads of books that he says he is now too old for. DD has reviewed and taken what she wants (and I am trying to work out whether we should throw the rest out, or keep them for DD, in case she changes her mind in the next couple of years). We also have had bags of belts and similar dumped on us as too small and there are two big bin bags still on the floor of his room stuffed full of clothes and other bits and pieces (football gloves - he hasn't played football in years etc), and which will no doubt end up dumped on me to get rid of any day now. Parts of the room are actually starting to look quite respectable, although it is clearly still a work in progress (and he hasn't started on the work area downstairs where the GCSE books and papers are). He has put a significant amount of time into it already (but boy it needed it), along with going out shopping with his mates for his overseas trip, and other bits of socialising. He is also trying to paint a portrait of Dcousin and his (now) wife as a wedding present, making use of the portraiture skills he developed in his GCSE. Canvas arrived end of last week, and last night he was busy drawing away in preparatin for painting
Familiarisation at the dreaded sixth form today.
Need to go through our photographs, but not sure we got one of DS on his own at the wedding (we only got changed once we got up there). Weird to see DS as one of the tallest people in the room (the cousin who got married is quite tall, but DS has almost caught up, and the rest of the family except DH are nowhere near).

Foslady · 25/06/2019 13:09

Oh no glee! Fingers crossed it’s just nerves/excitement!
Hope she has a lovely time

gleegeek · 25/06/2019 13:03

Loving all the prom photos! They all look so smart and grown up😀
Prom for dd tonight.... has been majorly stressful with her friendship group all doing their own thing without telling the rest what's going on. It's like herding cats! Dd is mega stressed and keeps racing to the loo - am hoping it's nerves and not bug 😲

Foslady · 25/06/2019 10:05

Emergency dress alterations tonight.
Original prom car looks like it’s a go - er.
Shower now leaking out of power shower unit and kitchen ceiling has assorted stains on it now - plumber coming to look at what’s needed to be replaced tonight 🤦🏻‍♀️!!!!!

myrtleWilson · 24/06/2019 21:08

DD had big day out with friends on Friday, weekend away with same friends and back home last night to go to work experience today. She really enjoyed work experience and was cosy-ed up on the sofa in her dressing gown watching a movie. I came in to see her about 8.30 (was in the kitchen with DH) and she was spark out! Let her sleep for another 1/2 hour and now she's gone up to bed... quite sweet when they're so sleepy they're all mumbly and cute!

Solitude - we've not hosted but as far as I can tell beer and cider seem to be drinks of choice round here... one mention of a lad drinking gin but only at the end of the evening not full on...

Food - they tend to order/deliveroo in

Arewedone · 24/06/2019 19:51

Good luck for tomorrow kitty :)
Solitude - hosted a few times and generally provided some beer, pims, water and mixers such as coke for vodka and Fanta but not sure what they put that in !? they always seem to bring along neat spirits.
Food they don’t tend to eat so much if it’s pre drinks so nibbles, if it’s post here they order deliveroo or Uber eats Taco Bell / chicken nuggets.
I would say it’s norm to take along something to drink and some cash in case they do a food order!

SolitudeAtAltitude · 24/06/2019 18:47

thanks Kitty

Iambuffy · 24/06/2019 18:27

He takes it very seriously kitty 🙄🤣

KittyMcKitty · 24/06/2019 17:28

solitude the general format for all parties around here is that the host provides a couple of boxes Corona / Dark Fruits and then people bring their own as well - there will be vodka and Malibu brought I’m sure. Host also seems to provide chips / bread at some point. The children are generally quieter sensible and have called parents in the past if they feel necessary.

The after party isn’t for the whole year - I think there are around 40 going (basically the same as to the pre). Format at pre essentially glass of bubbles/ beer and photos (parents there some of time).

I know some schools where the host of the after party has charged, issued wristbands and provided most drinks etc but these have been more whole year group parties.

buffy hope your ds has great time - I love laser quest!

Iambuffy · 24/06/2019 16:37

Ds1 off to laser quest again tomorrow :)

can I ask you lot about after prom parties?

do kids bring drinks or do they give the host a contribution, or do some parents really shell out for 150 kids to come to theirs?

Basically, what is the typical format?
