As the Tiffin deadline looms, is there a girls SW London grammars / indies thread yet?

I just realised that I need to get the Tiffin Girls form in ASAP, and wondered if anyone else is in the same position? I could do with company in this process!

We’re not yet decided but probably applying to Tiffin, WHS, SPGS, Sutton High and maybe one of PHS / Emanuel / KGS.

Oh no! Sorry, I was clearly misinformed! V sorry for getting anyone's hopes up

TheExtraGuineaPig · 30/01/2019 11:29

My post just came.. no surbiton letter (thought I'd let you all know that exciting piece of news!!)

PatienceVirtue · 30/01/2019 11:20

Up in the frozen North of London the schools don't let us know until mid February. I'm feeling anxious and flat and then annoyed at myself for caring. Had gone into quite lackadaisical as thought the sibling link would swing it for dd, but at the interview the room was swimming with siblings and they obviously can't let them all in. Then the head was a bit evasive, like they knew that it wasn't worth engaging with dd. ARgggh.

i need to hide this thread as it is making me more nervous ha ha

Justwondering1 · 30/01/2019 07:24

I was told (though not by Surbiton) they were to be posted yesterday. Could be wrong though!

Jimjam68 · 29/01/2019 22:48

Don’t suppose anyone has called Surbiton re posting date?? My money is on letters arriving Friday.

1ndig0 · 29/01/2019 22:29

I remember one year LU sent their offers a day earlier than they had stated intend paperwork. Everyone at the school gates had heard either way, but I’d been out all day unaware. When I got home, there was nothing there. So I called the school and they told me over the phone. Thank god it was good news on that one that year. I accepted on the spot as thst was always that DC’s first choice. Then the post arrived after 5pm Confused. Of all days! I think KGS had posted earlier, but they already told DS he had a place in the interview that year. All that interview involved was them reading his reference to him (!) and telling him about the coach service and how they hoped he would come. I think KGS was a lot less competitive back then. Then Hampton came the next day as scheduled.

Greenleave · 29/01/2019 22:01

Good luck everyone! Hope the post arrives on time! Couple of weeks ago I was waiting for a post then the postman came, there wasnt the post I was waiting for while everyone else seems to have received their post in here. Then we left the house and later on the day we came back with the post through the door. It was a good news!

FlumePlume · 29/01/2019 21:49

The instructions I’ve had from schools (not PHS, didn’t apply there) were along the lines of ‘we will post first class on x date, if you have not received a letter by the afternoon of x+1 date, you may call the school to ask for your result’. So maybe that would be worth a go?

I can’t imagine any state primary Head giving clues - it’s just not important to them, I suspect the school office would open the letter and just file it.

@1ndig0 not in my experience!
but they would tell you Monday if a problem with the post.....

1ndig0 · 29/01/2019 21:17

I wonder if the prep / primary schools will tell you if you asked them Fri pm? At least it saves waiting for the post!

HeadSpinning2019 · 29/01/2019 20:33

@Sweetnhappy1 nor ours. Often a day late Confused

HeadSpinning2019 · 29/01/2019 20:32

@Jimjam68 me too!
@1ndig0 - think schools know the day letters are posted.

Sweetnhappy1 · 29/01/2019 19:22

@HeadSpinning2019 thank you for doing that! Our post is not very reliable Saturdays...

1ndig0 · 29/01/2019 19:07

This could mean the primary / prep schools know on Fri by email? Some schools do this, I think?

1ndig0 · 29/01/2019 19:05

Thanks HeadSpin. Yikes!

Jimjam68 · 29/01/2019 19:04

Ooh, now I feel a bit sick!

HeadSpinning2019 · 29/01/2019 18:18

@Sweetnhappy1 - you were right. I cracked and called PHS. They will be posting Friday so we'll get them Saturday 2nd!

TheExtraGuineaPig · 29/01/2019 12:56

Thanks Rosered! :)

Roseredvelvet · 29/01/2019 12:26

Last year it was about 200 for 120 places. The interview invitation came after Surbiton offer and the offer came before the NHEHS, HTH.

TheExtraGuineaPig · 29/01/2019 12:07

KGS is definitely the 14th, there was an email repeating it last week (presumably to stop people asking??!!)

Does anyone know the kind of ratio of interviewed children to offers made?

So glad when this is all over

expo · 29/01/2019 11:46

Oooo I thought KGS was one week later than the girls schools eg 14th Feb. It was later last year and what I have received indicates it is one week after PHS and WHS

Roseredvelvet · 29/01/2019 10:01

My dd sat 11+ last year, Surbiton offer results were first out (rejections were sent out later) we received them mid-week followed by a call back to interview from KGS. PHS results and KGS results were at a similar time followed by NHEHS & WHS. KGS was an exploding offer, beware ladies! Dd had offers from all but WHS and chose SHS (it was always her favourite) and is exceedingly happy there, the pastoral care is outstanding. There are a 170 in her year, 25 in her class. DS sat 8+ at the same time for Kings & SPJ, offers were sent by email very soon after. All the girls who were waitlisted at dds school for NHEHS, WHS, G&L and Hampton (boys) all received WL places. A lot of movement after Tiffin & SPGS results. Best of luck!

FlumePlume · 28/01/2019 21:55

1ndig0 We didn’t apply for G&L, partly because we wanted to limit the number of applications. As for the interview, dd appears to have been too busy chatting to take mental notes, and she’s pretty reluctant to discuss it. I think it just reminds her of the fact she’s waiting for letters, which is all bit nerve-wracking, and so I haven’t pressed her.

Flume - 4 girls from DD’s prep have had SPGS interviews and they were all slightly different. Why won’t your DD tell you anything? Grin They all had at least one corker of a question, but all different.

People whose DDs has sat in previous years had told me the questions ranged from - “Does the hole belong to the donut or the donut belong to the hole?” Hmm Or, “Can a hurdles race ever be fair?” Or, “Name 10 uses for a brick (but not building).”

It is odd that G&L only asked about SPGS specifically (not LU for instance). I guess they’re similar-sized schools with similar results. Did you not apply for G&L?
