Good luck to all your dcs. I really hope they all get what they need to progress onto their next steps

clary · 21/08/2017 21:12

Gosh yes totally agree re B to continue MFL - no way you could do French Alevel with a C (I teach MFL)

TeenAndTween · 21/08/2017 20:42

Here in Hants the state schools don't have 6th forms (with a few exceptions). A benefit of this is that students have to actively think about their next step and what would suit them best. The colleges that focus on A levels tend to have 5Cs as minimum requirements but higher grades for some subjects depending on A level choice (e.g. B at English if doing History, A/7 for maths, B for MFLs if continuing them).

Signing in to thread as anxiously awaiting results for DS. Absolutely no idea what he's going to get - he's very capable but lazy. He needs decent maths and Eng Lit for his preferred A level choices, but I'm getting quite despondent about the new exams. DS very nervous and doesn't want to discuss anything to do with it.

Laniakea · 21/08/2017 19:27

Madhairday that's upset dd too - she's been talking about remarks today Hmm it is so crap for them.

lljkk · 21/08/2017 19:22

Local 6th forms seem to require CCCBB as minimum.
I think local parents feel ok about their kids not going to 6th form.
It's okay if their kids aren't that academic. There are other options in life.

ButtonLoon · 21/08/2017 19:07

I do schools data, the exams officer downloads the results ASAP (can vary depending on the exam board - one had server issues during our A-level download), then I check the data accuracy and upload it to a smart computer program which gives us our progress-8 scores in an easy to digest format.

This will then to go the assistant head who a) writes the press release and b) determines who meets their offer for sixth form.

YoureAllABunchOfBastards · 21/08/2017 18:42

Just seen the post about receiving results - I am on leadership team and will have access to results on Wednesday. Other staff will have access Thursday am. We are all very good at poker faces though.

YoureAllABunchOfBastards · 21/08/2017 18:41

English teacher - starting to really worry about my lot now. It's been bloody awful getting them through the new course.

TopBitchoftheWitches · 21/08/2017 18:36

Joining too.

I am more nervous than ds2, I think.

FairNotFair · 21/08/2017 18:36

lljkk/clary - DS goes to one of those uptight independent London schools that keeps its results nice and high by charmingly "managing out" those who don't measure up Hmm.

SoPassRemarkable · 21/08/2017 18:34

Dd needs a B in what she wants to do at A level plus pass English and maths.....so not very high requirements I guess.

Her current school is in special measures and has terrible results so we don't want her staying there for sixth form, she doesn't want to stay. Only other sixth form in town has results not much better than her current school.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 21/08/2017 18:32

I feel a bit sick every time I think about Thursday looming!

Madhairday · 21/08/2017 18:31

Checking in too (waves to everyone who was on the GCSE support thread, can you believe that was two months ago now...)

DD is stressed and more stressed today as she's seen that news item about 45% of pupils possibly being given unreliable results in English. She keeps going over her answers, I told her to stop it as it's not helping but she keeps dragging up 'that rubbish answer in English Lit paper 2' etc. Just want it all over with.

She needs 5 Cs and above for her sixth form college, and Bs in the subjects she wants to do. She got this all fine in her mocks, but is very worried about maths and English and the grade boundaries. She's already losing sleep bless her.

Danglingmod · 21/08/2017 18:31

All the sixth forms in my county have low entry requirements, as far as I'm aware. Private, grammar, secondary modern, comprehensive, UTC, FE college. All require 5/6 Cs - some require Bs in your chosen A level subjects and some require A for maths A level.

I know a couple of ds's friends require higher grades for a scholarship and a couple require higher grades for excellent school leavers' programmes etc.

clary · 21/08/2017 18:23

I don't know lljkk but fairnotfair's son having to get 5 As is unusual IME. Not many students at my school last year would have been eligible for sixth form in that case. IIRC only about half a dozen got 5 As!

lljkk · 21/08/2017 18:07

Is it just MN or otherwise very common that kids apply to 6th forms they can only just barely get into, allowed in only if they get grades that are the top end of their predictions? Plus it sounds like no other 6th form could be remotely acceptable.

That seems to be common on MN. It doesn't resemble the stories I hear from local parents IRL, though.

ProfessorLayton1 · 21/08/2017 17:40

Dd wants me to drive her to school but stay couple of streets away from the school and she will ring me.
My youngest will be with her as I don't have anyone to look after her.
She hasn't been home for 5 weeks and this has helped her to forget about the results.
Good luck to all the children..

I just read online the results get sent electronically to schools. Does that mean the teachers know what the kids have got before they receive them. My nephew is convinced if this is the case then he'll be able to guess he's done badly by the teacher's face.
If he arrives at the time when the results are released to students then only a smaller number of staff will know and they will be more concerned by overall statistics than being able to remember individual students' grades in individual subjects, that's if the staff who deal with results data even know your nephew (they may be non teaching staff).
If he arrives later in the day, then, yes, the teachers are likely to have seen the results.

LockedOutOfMN · 21/08/2017 17:37

If a headteacher has a child who is also a pupil awaiting results then I they can't talk to their child between them knowing and the child officially getting the results.
This is not the case in any school I've worked at. They can talk to each other and indeed continue their normal family life for 24 hours. What the parent can't do is tell their child their results.

CauliflowerSqueeze · 21/08/2017 17:35

Schools get them the day before, yes.
But only the Head of Centre and the data manager are supposed to have access.

Witchend · 21/08/2017 17:00

Dd1's plan is to run into school, grab the result and me drive her a couple of streets away in the car. If she's happy she'll then go back in a talk to her friends, if not she'll come home.

I don't care what she gets, but I just want her to be happy. She's camping with friends until late Wednesday night and says she's excited to get them. I'm the one who's nervous (although I haven't told her). I wasn't nervous about my own results, why on earth am I so nervous now!

FairNotFair · 21/08/2017 15:47

DS has to get minimum 6 As to progress to 6th form, and has to get As in all the subjects that he wants to take at A-level. He's getting twitchier with every passing day...

sashh · 21/08/2017 15:34

Yes, not sure if it is all teachers but head teachers do.
