What happens if as child does not get into the preferred school? Is it like Uni with reserve offers or do you have to apply now to another school? Just trying to understand the system.

TisGlorious · 13/06/2017 19:49

That's fantastic news! He's not too far off from the target. When are they going to let you know?

TamSam61 · 13/06/2017 19:24

Thanks everyone. Seems he's borderline. Got 63% overall and the school ask for 65% with most boys getting 70%. We did our bit and reckon he might be in! Phew

imelda3 · 13/06/2017 17:43

Good luck TamSam!! As others have said this is where all the millions of mocks they have done come into their own as can highlight any blips in the real thing and HM starts to earn his /her keep! Sending positive vibes.

originalbiglymavis · 13/06/2017 15:30

Sell him hard! All those great things he will be bringing to the school. I will be sending positive vibes.

TisGlorious · 13/06/2017 15:25

Whaat? Oh God TamSam, i hope it all works out. Be assertive and highlight all your dc good points, don't let the nerves get to you. What about the prep HM? he must know what its about and should be pounding the phone right now! this is when your HM really comes into his own.

teta · 13/06/2017 14:38

Oh God how nerve-wracking TamSam.
I think we either have a yes or a no.A maybe would really finish me off!

Foinavon · 13/06/2017 14:13

Good Luck! If his mocks results were better maybe have those to hand? Any sporting or music talent .. The fact they want to meet with you hopefully means all is not lost.

TamSam61 · 13/06/2017 13:55

We've just had the dreaded phone call.... Got to go to DS's preferred school for a discussion this afternoon. Just cancelled my diary at work. Wish my luck!

originalbiglymavis · 12/06/2017 15:25

Ours are camping too! I will be jumping every time a phone rings!

Foinavon · 12/06/2017 10:03

We find out on Friday afternoon. I have heard there are phone calls earlier in the week if it has gone badly.

teta · 12/06/2017 09:25

Mine is on a camping trip and has said he doesn't want to know until he comes home.I have been told I will be Sent an e mail, probably on Wednesday but it might be Thursday.

LIZS · 12/06/2017 09:14

Our school kept them back until the year group returned from their residential on the Friday. Then each pupil collected an envelope with their results. I think had there been a problem the head would have called parents mid week.

GinGarden · 12/06/2017 09:10

OMG! I wish I hadn't asked now..on tenterhooks tomorrow then! Thank goodness he is up a mountain camping, hopefully no phone signal!

originalbiglymavis · 12/06/2017 07:58

We've been told Friday but the kids are all saying that if they have failed the parents get a phone call on Tuesday. Everyone has been warned NOT to call me unless it's an emergency!

GinGarden · 12/06/2017 04:56

Any idea when CE results will be out?

teta · 10/06/2017 12:29

Fionavan, My ds is very good at that too!
Asking him how they went is absolutely useless.

Foinavon · 10/06/2017 12:22

Bliss not having to nudge them to revise. My DS felt it all went well. Felt the papers were fair, no complaints other than RS when he lost his way, muttered about the layout of the paper being confusing. Unfortunately this means very little as he can come out of an exam beaming triumphantly and then produce a not very impressive C. Good luck with A Levels Teta.

originalbiglymavis · 10/06/2017 11:38

Secondary school. It's usually 11+ (so going into year 7) or 13+.

Depending on the school, there may be pre tests and exams, and conditional offers made based on the child passing the exams at xx% (ours was 70%).

flibberdee · 10/06/2017 11:31

Hi can I jump on here and ask what the common entrance exam is for? (Or maybe I should just google lol)

originalbiglymavis · 10/06/2017 11:28

Oh and there was a q in history that was curvy too - about a Tudor battle England lost rather than won or something like that. Was hoping for back death!

originalbiglymavis · 10/06/2017 11:26

There's loads going on - camping trip, leavers dinner, school fair for y6&8 families, special assembly, drinks for patents/bbq for the kids...

TisGlorious · 10/06/2017 11:19

is there a programme for dc at your school post CE?

originalbiglymavis · 10/06/2017 09:36

Oh God yes. The diversion tactics they have!

teta · 10/06/2017 09:32

I can relax for two days until Monday when Dd starts her A levels.Though chivvying a young 12 year old through CE has been far more traumatic than GCSE or AS levels.
