DD, the cat and I are all on the sofa. Half her friends are agonising on Facebook.

tobee · 17/08/2017 02:04

I'm up too. Confused

LineysRun · 17/08/2017 02:00

After about 3 hours sleep, I'm awake ... I can hear DS up, too. Even the cat is like, well, like a cat on a hot tin roof.

Good luck all. Let's all update later.

Good luck everyone am gonna try and sleep ...DS is muttering in his room about alternatives and apprenticeships! Taking no notice and going to see. See you all on the other side

Horsemad · 16/08/2017 23:44

Ugh, the cat just threw up, so a distraction but not the sort I wanted!!

Going to sleep now, so G'night all and Good Luck. Remember to come back and update! X

tobee · 16/08/2017 23:15

Need to read lots of mumsnet threads for distraction tonight.

teta · 16/08/2017 22:47

I'm too jet-lagged to have wine and feel sick with tiredness.Got back an hour ago and will drive Dd in for her results tomorrow.
Travelling is very good as a distraction.
Good luck to everyone tomorrow and stay cool ( will try and take my own advice!!).

Wine finished here.

bathildabagshot1 · 16/08/2017 21:44

You know the same problems have been had in the private sector Lineys?

Horsemad · 16/08/2017 21:42

I've got Wine too Grin

LineysRun · 16/08/2017 21:32

I should be their Dream Parent in the state sector. But I'm just so disillusioned and fed up.

Shall I have a Wine - oh go on then.

Horsemad · 16/08/2017 21:21

Politicians will always cock it up.

LineysRun · 16/08/2017 21:10

I feel like having a rant.

I believed in and supported the state school system. My ExH left us when DS was only 3, for OW. I worked to give him a better life. I paid for private tuition when I could as he was 'gifted and able' at primary, to stretch him. I poured over admissions criteria for weeks, in my urban area. I still keep his letter admitting him to his secondary school.

He's smart. Lovely. Funny. He went through bog standard comp and came out top three at GCSE.

He went to a good sixth-form college.

Then it all went tits up. The new spec was puzzling the college. There wasn't enough revision material. The practice papers were lacking. Some of the material challenged the teachers. There were mistakes on exam papers that threw kids off their stride mid-exam. Kids who were 'Oxbridge potential' - and who were sent on lovely visits to colleges courtesy of the college's 'aspire' programme - are now looking down the barrel of failure.

My son took three hard science A levels and that's supposedly what our country wants and needs. He's good at these subjects. If you talk to him, he's clearly in command of them.

Well done, GOVE. Slow hand clap to you.

FreedaDonkey · 16/08/2017 20:30

I drove myself mad reading the Student room and checking grade boundaries last year.

Fingers crossed for you all tomorrow , we have a FB group for results day, clearing, etc if anyone is interested

HSMMaCM · 16/08/2017 19:52

You need the slap Gove app, that will pass some time !

bathildabagshot1 · 16/08/2017 19:13

Me too. It was so much nicer for DD1 who did AS and A2.

Shall we have gin? I'll give DD one too lol.

LineysRun · 16/08/2017 19:11

bathilda, yeah, there really isn't any point you having that conversation tonight.

I just want to slap GOVE round the face with putrid herrings.

bathildabagshot1 · 16/08/2017 19:05

Anyone else holding their tongue with DC tonight?

DD2 has been to the beauty therapist and hair dresser ( I paid) to give her something to do, but is still climbing the walls.

I really have to keep my mouth shut, but if she had stayed in more, worked less and actually studied all the time she sat at her desk, she might not be in this position. She knows it to, but me saying so is not helpful.
