DS at 6th form party tonight and tomorrow is last day. That's come round quickly!!

School lay on a buffet breakfast and they have a Staff vs Students Rounders Match followed by a BBQ.

HSMMaCM · 25/05/2017 23:29

Leavers day tomorrow. They have a bouncy castle.

DD's last day tomorrow too, with their do (together with the corresponding boys' school) in the evening.

bigTillyMint · 25/05/2017 21:46

DD's last day tomorrow - they are going in old uniforms for a party in fav teachers lesson, then to the park. I think drink will be involved!
They also have leavers party and stuff at the end of June though.

bebumba · 25/05/2017 19:22

Ds started study leave today by studying 😀. Hope the revision is going well for everybody.

ErrolTheDragon · 24/05/2017 18:00

Yes, DD is doing physics, I think she said a lot of the class didn't do too well in the mocks, and she had a particular gripe about the part of one paper which examines 'practical' aspects. OTOH she prefers the way they do the practical endorsement now.

aginghippy · 24/05/2017 15:13

Yes, they are supposed to be harder. That was part of the rationale for changing to a linear system.

HSMMaCM · 24/05/2017 14:43

I think the linear papers are supposed to be harder, because they're examining 2 years work instead of 1 aren't they?

OP posts:
ono40 · 24/05/2017 14:41

User, the specimen papers for all linear subjects are much harder than the past A2 papers. The lack of past papers is also making revision and knowledge application more difficult. At least they are all in the same boat and we just have to hope the grade boundaries are lower.

teta · 24/05/2017 14:00

Sorry, yes it was C2 Maths.I've been reading the Student room opinions on c2 and the split of hard/easy opinions was 50/50.So I guess she just panicked.I've told her to go for lunch with her friends instead of coming home upset.I'm sure she will have improved her mark from last year, which was the main purpose for redoing it.

user1484040234 · 24/05/2017 13:43

is anyone DC doing the new spec Physics (AQA) and Chemistry (OCR) and finding that the linear specimen papers are much harder than the old A2 papers? My DS and his friends haven't done well on recent mocks which used these papers. It's very worrying with exams starting after half term.

user1484040234 · 24/05/2017 13:39

I think it was C2 today?

ErrolTheDragon · 24/05/2017 13:12

Teta - C3? Confused I've got that down for June 20th.Think C1/2 are the ones they do at AS? If it was a tough paper the grade boundaries will be low - I know its what people always say but for maths it's definitely true according to my DD.

ono40 · 24/05/2017 11:59

I agree teta, me too - highs and lows here every day. Has she tried Rescue Remedy? I put this into DS's water bottle and he takes this into the exam so if he has a 'moment' (like last year when he crossed out his whole answer by mistake) then he can take a drink and count to 10.

teta · 24/05/2017 11:09

Dd just repeated her Maths c3 module today. This is the one she panicked in last year and did the same today. She was getting 95+ in past papers so I don't understand why she panicked.Anyway she has said it was a really hard paper. Now I'm back on the emotional rollercoaster Shock.

ono40 · 22/05/2017 10:11

Just risk assessed DS's bedroom and decided the hazards are too great for me to set foot in there!

Yesterday DS has decided that he 'can't do English' (last week it was History) and asked what would happen if he 'only' got 3Bs. I assured him that both DH and I would have been thrilled with 3Bs, no-one will die if he gets this and he has an unconditional place so no need to worry. Oh it is all so difficult keeping them (and us) sane. Roll on June 22nd.

In other news, DS2 has broken his heel bone jumping off the stage in a drama lesson - lots of H&S food for thought at the school then!

HSMMaCM · 19/05/2017 20:48

Ono did they risk assess the bouncy castle ?

OP posts:
HSMMaCM · 19/05/2017 20:47

Still in lessons at the moment, although the staff don't seem to be there much!

OP posts:
ono40 · 19/05/2017 18:36

Well that's it. School is done. 14 years gone by in a flash Sad. Lots of dressing up and silly pranks, Instagram awash with photos, cut nose sustained on the bouncy castle....

Three weeks today until the first exam.

Welcome Lightyears, do join us for the rollercoaster that will be the next six weeks!

LightYears · 18/05/2017 18:24

Anyone else's DC having to do a 3rd year of six form.

bigTillyMint · 18/05/2017 17:54

DD got one when she left her old school. She doesn't want one from this school!

ErrolTheDragon · 18/05/2017 17:40

DD got her 'leavers' hoody a week or two ago - they do it quite early and then wear them for most of the remaining time, I think.

Maths M3 yesterday, she thought it had gone well. As it's an extra that takes the pressure off S3 which is next week.

bigTillyMint · 18/05/2017 16:51

Glad the gardener came to the rescue, Ono! My DD is doing PsychologyWink

DD went in early for an Eng Lit mock and texted after to say it was "all right" This is the girl who said she had flopped every flipping GCSE (she didn't at all!) - not sure it means she aced it, but at least her thinking is more positive/realistic Smile

HSMMaCM · 18/05/2017 13:40

Ono that's really sweet ❤️

I think DD is trying to pretend it's all not really happening.

OP posts:
ono40 · 18/05/2017 11:42

DS went off for his last day of lessons today as tomorrow is stand down day when all they dress up. He came home yesterday with his leavers' hoodie...all getting a bit real now.

They gave the History teachers some Eurostar tickets as a leaving present and he said he was going to take his girlfriend to Paris and propose...oh dear, think I've got something in my eye....
