Hi all. Keep in touch with uni offers, new jobs, gap years, exams, etc. We can get through his Grin

Good luck to all - look forward to catching up in August.

I hope everything goes well with your father's funeral dingit, well done to you all for holding it together this week xx

GetAHaircutCarl · 30/06/2017 12:38

My thoughts are with you dingit.

Well I no longer have any DC in school! Books returned ( only one lost by DD). There's a formal do tonight so both are quite excited.

Needmoresleep · 30/06/2017 09:35

Congratulations everyone for getting through Yr 13. There is so much pressure on DC (and their mums) at a point when they are, at best, trainee adults.

I hope the results go well.

The gap year has been fab, both for DD and me. She is currently working as a Counsellor in an American summer camp and having the time of her life. She is very outdoorsy, despite having grown up in Central London, so 150 acres, a lake and 60 different activities is perfect. She has been allocated the older age group so they are only a few years apart in age so presumably lots of scope for her to join in. And it has been so nice to have a year without exams.

I am not sure how easy it will be get back to studying, but longer term I think she will be pleased she took a break when she could and started University wit a bit more maturity. Overall I think the year will have been cost neutral. She earned enough to pay her own way, and got to spend 5 months in the French Alps and three months in the States. She would have had savings had she worked July - November rather than interned. But she did get to intern at a cookery school.

And dingit, well done to you and your DS for getting to the end of term, and hope the next few months are not too hard.

dingit · 30/06/2017 07:07

Thank you everyone for your support. This is making me cry, but I am a bit of a dripping tap at the moment. I would love to join you on results day to see how all your dc do.

Have a wonderful summer.

bebumba · 30/06/2017 07:06

Yep!

ErrolTheDragon · 29/06/2017 23:44

Bit anticlimactic, isn't it.

Horsemad · 29/06/2017 23:12

Ladies, it's been a pleasure sharing this journey with you all. Thank you

I will pop in and out through the summer Smile

bebumba · 29/06/2017 22:46

Yep that's it horsemad. On to the next stage Smile

HSMMaCM · 29/06/2017 22:12

Got an email from school to say we'll be removed from the mailing list at end of term Sad

We can all have a break and regroup for results day. Prom here tomorrow.

Is this it? The end of the road, the end of A levels?

Wow, two years gone, just like that. Here's to the next bit... WineGinCakeFlowersBrewGrin

bebumba · 29/06/2017 18:52

Well that's it, all done and dusted. Leaver form completed today and all books returned.
Ds did OCR Physics B and he didn't feel that it was too bad.
We all have the long wait for results day to look forward to now...

JugglingFromHereToThere · 29/06/2017 17:54

"DD said the astrophysics was fine" .....

My, haven't they grown! How did they get to be so smart!

ErrolTheDragon · 29/06/2017 17:44

DD said the astrophysics was fine, the practical section tougher especially the first question.

All done... locker emptied, books returned, AS certificates picked up and a friend decided to take a couple of them for a chinese lunch to belatedly celebrate a birthday.

LineyWimey · 29/06/2017 14:38

stonecircle it does sound generally a hated paper, so who knows. Your DS could do fine.

user1484040234 · 29/06/2017 14:04

AQA Physics. with turning points as option, reported as being fine by DS.
Xbox in full use already!

ErrolTheDragon · 29/06/2017 13:37

Obv I meant dingits DD's exam, I know we're a thread of overinvested parents but not quite that bad!

ErrolTheDragon · 29/06/2017 13:36

I've not heard from my DD yet... she was returning books and hopefully hanging out with some mates after the exam so maybe no news is good news. The aqa paper was the one where half or so was the option so may be variable...

Sorry the OCR sounds bad, but delighted that dingit's exam went well, after a horrible week.

stonecircle · 29/06/2017 13:25

Oh dear Liney - you've got me worried now. DS can be a bit overly optimistic in how exams have gone. He needs a good grade for Physics as he wants to do it at uni. Still if everyone found it hard grade boundaries will be low etc

dingit · 29/06/2017 13:16

AQA paper deemed best paper yet. Now off holiday shopping and pub. Prom tomorrow. I am so relieved ds is not doing A levels, I don't think I could ever go through that again.

tobee · 29/06/2017 13:16

So ds finally done! English lit unseen texts. Because he gets max extra time he finished alone. So I picked him up in the car and drove him straight to subway where I imagine he's having a foot long meatball sub Grin. Then its resting at home with leavers ball tonight followed by a bar. Ds told me he doesn't want to have me making too much of a fuss. I thought I was very restrained and cool. Oh ok, I don't send him 5 different celebration gifs.

LineyWimey · 29/06/2017 13:02

Apparently OCR physics was terrible - as in, not going to university any more terrible - but yet AQA wasn't so bad because half of that paper was easy while half was difficult.

But OCR was impossible. DS, His friends, Reddit all saying that there were far too many extremely difficult questions for a short 90 minute paper, and an odd mark scheme, so that students tackling them in order might achieve 20% in the time. For students missing the first question entirely, they're still only predicting 25%.

olliepolly · 29/06/2017 12:16

Congrats to all those surviving physics today and finally finishing. DD1 partying though plans for beach today scuppered by the weather which is horrid . Hope all enjoy a bit of relaxation and are able to put thoughts of August 17 th to the back of their minds, I'm trying.

LittleHo · 29/06/2017 11:48

Text from dd to say AQA Physics was ok. Turning points part good but the practical part not so good. Mind you the reaction online is terrible so feel happy with an ok.

stonecircle · 29/06/2017 11:39

I don't know I'm afraid Liney and DS has gone back to bed! Physics is way beyond my comprehension so he doesn't go into too much detail with me! He did say the first question was something to do with a circuit which everyone said was really hard and he didn't think was - so wondering if he missed something!

LineyWimey · 29/06/2017 11:33

stonecircle do you know, was it all mechanics, or was there some theoretical physics?

I have had a cryptic text from DS and he's not home.
