Parents of Year 11DC support thread. The final term.

DS's friends all seem to be lovely too. It's hard having not known them for very long. It's just me, the thought of a teen party makes me shudder. A friend of DS's from his old school recently made the national papers for skipping school, his new friends have not proven to be quite so notorious maybe I should trust them.

They are a lovely bunch of teens with not a bad bone among them

Prom not really on DS1's radar. I've ordered a ticket, in case he'd like to go. If he does decide he wants to go, then we'll buy him a suit a week or two before, then he can wear it to school in September if it still fits (and if he gets the grades for sixth form).

He has been revising fairly regularly this week (esp Maths, Chemistry, Biology) and not going out as much as he usually would. Next week he has been invited to three parties, so I think he's saving his down time for that.

We finally bought him his own laptop this week (he contributed some of the cost). This means that the shared family computers are less stretched, which means that he can do Tassomai and CSCP activities in peace.

Life on the edge right there Exit. Much respect from me, I shudder at the thought.

Thanks for the Asda tip. I too am worried to get it too soon and he is still shooting upward, better get it soon though or they will run out.

I'm so sorry that happened to your DD Dream DS has asked several times for an alcohol fuelled after party. The answer remains 'no'. I do let him have the odd glass of wine at family gatherings, and I know he got drunk at a dunes party last summer.

DC is still going to football and tennis. I think the exercise is good for him. He's also having a lot of downtime on the computer! We're also,having a day out on Saturday, partly to watch dc2 play in match, and partly so,we can all,have a nice day out during the holidays.

Who is basically a 6 foot bean pole, that should say. My English has improved a little in 25 years honestly

DS is going to the Prom with a female friend, they want to go prom shopping together but can't seem to get their shizzle together to actually do it. Can you hire tux for 16yo? Who as basically 6foot bean poles?

I persuaded ds1 to go to his prom and will look to get him a tux a couple of weeks before in the hope he stops growing.
Hrs done some revising and managed down time as well so very relaxed which is how I think it should be.

He wants to do A levels but science and maths, no languages. He will take English lit he is just unlikely to actually pass it. As he gets more settled here I am hoping that his grade will climb back to where they were before we moved (B's in sciences and maths) I just know that the GCSE's are a bit of a write off. I'm worried that if he completely neglects English lit that it may bite him in a few years if he does want t do some science degree.

For university entrance he will have to enter all his GCSEs whether he passed them or not. Obviously a pass would look better than a fail.

For 6th form they may look at overall grade profile, and use that to decide whether he is allowed to start with 3 or 4 A levels.

If he is not looking to do A levels and is on for a lower grade profile then he may need 5 Cs or above to progress to his chosen BTEC/Apprenticeship. So throwing away 1 means more is hanging on the other subjects.

My iPad cannot cope with long threads, so thanks for the new thread. Dd is going to sleepover with her friend tomorrow and they will be doing "revision"
They go to different schools and study different exam boards so not sure how this will work. But she has been doing 4-5 hours a day so a break will be welcome.

DS has gone to school twice this week but mainly for coursework stuff, revision still a bit sluggish. He is refusing to go to English lit tomorrow in school he says there is no point as he has a C in English language and that's the min he needs. Is he write, can he fail English lit now with no consequences? If so I'll leave him to it as English is just a pain I failed it but that was thirty years ago now so it doesn't count

DS is away this weekend doing his D of E Silver practice expedition. He will do his voluntary work Friday and will continue his paper round.

DD (Y10) will have to do the pony, we will scale back the competitions though next year. This year, from this weekend, there is a competition every weekend, plus some during term time, as she will ride at Horse Trials and County Shows and possibly HOYS (if it goes as well as it did last year!!). The school support this though, to be fair.

Does teach them organisation and time management I guess...

Dd is having to to do the horse everyday as I am out of action. So with mucking out, riding, sleeping and the boyfriend her revision seems a bit squeezed.
