Not to believe what you read about the school on Mumsnet

Oh just looked it up Wikipaedia has a nice list of Grammars.
I thought most things I'd read here had been positive about it?

I would be worried about the lack of teacher enthusiasm. Were they there very unwillingly? I'd try to find out what the feeling was like in the staff room, if I could.

Ingles2 · 07/10/2015 07:17

Oooo I think I went there, is there another PGS nearby?

elizadolittlechoc · 07/10/2015 07:14

Oops sorry not directly related but sexist none the less-I'll start another thread!

elizadolittlechoc · 07/10/2015 07:10

To think Radio 4 at 6.40 am today lost the plot with their stand alone piece on THERESA MAY's dress? FFSi thought they were above that shite (please note I am not a fan of TM but...).

errorofjudgement · 07/10/2015 07:04

Headteacher called Tracy? Girls only school?

EvilTwins · 07/10/2015 06:56

error - no. State grammar in the south west.

Oh the nsme the school.

BikeRunSki · 07/10/2015 06:47

Ah, not the PGS near me then.

AnotherNewt · 07/10/2015 06:44

Alleyns has been known to do this too.

IguanaTail · 07/10/2015 06:42

Yes

errorofjudgement · 07/10/2015 06:34

Just googled PGS, is this an independent school on the south coast?

IguanaTail · 07/10/2015 00:50

What a silly thing for him to say. People will now immediately look! What was he thinking?

EvilTwins · 06/10/2015 23:42

Dorothy - not bothering with the other grammars and neither they nor we want single sex. Our closest comp is a good one so we're going there on Thursday but that's probably it for now. DC are yr 5 so no rush on the other comps really.

Well now even people who don't use MN will be logging on to see what posters are saying about the school!

WhoAteMyToast · 06/10/2015 23:31

How very unprofessional of him, and how stupid - presumably most people wouldn't have made Mumsnet their first port of call in school research.

DorothyL · 06/10/2015 23:28

Which other schools will you go and see?

EvilTwins · 06/10/2015 23:17

Rafa - no, it's the one Dorothy mentioned upthread.

The students we met were really fab - very articulate and confident. I liked the head, for the most part, but I did feel like the staff weren't really engaging with the visitors - kind of got the impression that they don't really feel they need to try - it's not like other schools where they're actively trying to attract new students. Maybe I'm biased - I'd spent the first half of the evening at open evening at the school where I teach, chatting to everyone who came through my classroom door. Not one teacher spoke to my DDs.

OP posts:
DorothyL · 06/10/2015 23:10

Guessing because my two dd's were helping out at the open evening tonight and I know from previoys threads that you're in my area

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 06/10/2015 23:10

Is it an academy?

Possibly beginning with K?

EvilTwins · 06/10/2015 23:10

I liked it but I wasn't blown away. The children were great but the staff seemed largely disinterested, which was disappointing. In one room we visited, the teacher was sitting at her desk marking whilst a couple of 6th formers talked to visitors. I thought that was a bit crap.

OP posts:
EvilTwins · 06/10/2015 23:06

I haven't seen much either. Were you there Dorothy, or were you just guessing?

OP posts:
DorothyL · 06/10/2015 23:04

What was your impression otherwise?

DorothyL · 06/10/2015 23:04

Strange because there's not a lot about the school on MN and I have ASed (advanced searched)
