DD said earlier she is nervous. She's trying not to think about it but a Friend has a count down app .

Horsemad · 10/08/2015 23:38

DS2 is being a grotbag, I think it's because we are all silently praying for DS1's A levels and he's feeling a bit ignored Hmm

Must try and bolster him also...

HSMMaCM · 10/08/2015 20:36

DD said today "well you didn't take your science GCSE and daddy didn't even take any and you've done okay" Grin

Just checking in. DS1 is quite nervous. It's a long wait till the 20th. Best of luck to those DCs getting A level and A/S level results this week.

My comforting phrases so far are:

You're almost bound to get better results than your parents. (On learning what they were he's agreed that this is true!)

You only need to get enough to get onto the next stage.

On the 20th you'll have more GCSEs than anyone else in the house. (My husband and I took O levels and his siblings are both younger.)

bebumba · 10/08/2015 18:01

I have been trying not to think about results day but as it popped into my head this morning I thought I would remind those who are living in blissful denial how close it is!
DS doesn't seem to be worrying and has barely mentioned GCSEs since he took the last exam.

WitchofScots · 10/08/2015 16:00

bebumba nerves are starting here...barely a day goes by without a few moments of nervousness and that's just me DD is ratty if it is even mentioned.

bebumba · 10/08/2015 10:48

10 days...

SugarPlumTree · 09/08/2015 13:13

Apologies, with hindsight not a good idea to mention it. CakeFlowers to add the Wine.

HSMMaCM · 09/08/2015 12:50

Good luck to everyone waiting for A level results.

Not sure whether to feel sick about this Thursday (A Levels) or the one after (GCSE's). Envy (sickness not envy)

Tension starting to rise for dd3. She is happy about most of them, but English Literature is the big worry as she found one of the exams horrible. She is a logical soul so if she is asked to describe the mood of the cat sitting on a mat and analyse how it came to be there, she would point out that the cat is simply sitting on the mat. She did try to expand in the exam but it doesn't come naturally.

Horsemad · 09/08/2015 10:14

Thursday coming round very quickly now. Trying not to think about it, but not succeeding! Grin

SugarPlumTree · 09/08/2015 09:20

You can have DD Instead, she can't chat to friend's online currently until DH wakes up and fixes her iPod. She is not happy, I can feel it through the walls.

AP, reckon it's very fair to say results last thing on his mind!

Good luck to those on here waiting for results on Thursday Wine Friend's DD who I've been helping since GCSE options is waiting. I think I'm nearly as nervous about that as I am DD's results. I picked up her AS results last year as they were away and had to break bad news which was not pleasant. Really hope this year is better, she has worked so hard.

auntpetunia · 08/08/2015 21:23

DS is currently in Tokyo, sure he's not thinking about exam results, so I'm not yet!

HSMMaCM · 08/08/2015 19:00

DD promised me a whole weekend at home. She's been on her first aid course and gone to a friend for the night. She's back tomorrow - with her friend. We might have words Grin.

Grin HSM. DD brought down 2 bags of 'rubbish' from her room which included many coat hangers and her school uniform,

Very glad DH on the mend Errol and that you get to do something with her.

DD wants to travel again so is now officially job hunting. Only thing is we are away plus she has green hair so it hasn't got off the ground. I'm slightly in denial about results day. FIL is definitely in his final days reading email Tuesday and I spent the whole week jumping when the phone rang. Got really stressed about how DH and I were going to get out to Spain in the next few weeks for the funeral juggling results, childcare, starting 6th form and DS's birthday. Dad said to me I had to be realistic and accept DH will probably have to go on his own (I swore he wouldn't after he did for MIL) but I can see he's right.

On the plus side, the phone calls of doom about my Mother have stopped and we have made it away. The deer have had a go at our bread delivery and there is a Swallow's nest under the eaves on the terrace plus lots of lovely ducks bobbing around outside our bedroom window. Hopefully we will be able to unwind a bit despite being on tenterhooks waiting for the news about FIL.

canny1234 · 08/08/2015 08:02

I'm trying not to think about results day.I'm impressed by all the planning going on here though.Dd1 worked so hard for her exams that we have already bought her a charm bracelet as a reward.I just know she has done her absolute best regardless of the results. We are in KL and due to currency devaluation it makes sense to buy gold as an investment at the moment.Dd2 has also done very well!
There are some intrepid travelers on this thread but i'm also very impressed by the ones working thoughout the holidays .Some of those jobs sound hard but such valuable experience.

ErrolTheDragon · 08/08/2015 00:16

Dh is recovering well after his op, I took the day off and we had a lovely walk in wharfedale. He's feeling well enough that he's made a booking for himself and dd to have 4 nights down on Exmoor next week to do some walking there - she's going to carry all the food and water. It's not exactly what we'd planned for this summer but DD is being positive and cheerful. I'm a bit sorry there wasn't time to organise for me to go too (work, dog...) but it's good that they do this sort of thing together. And I get to do watersports with her tomorrow.

HSMMaCM · 06/08/2015 21:23

Singing a song to myself tonight :

Where have all the hangers gone
Long time passing
Where have all the hangers gone
Long time ago
Where have all the hangers gone
Young girls nicked them every one
When will they ever learn ?
When will they ever learn ?

While trying to hang the washing

Ono my planned phrase after seeing the results is going to be "congratulations" even if I have to go away and weep Grin.

DD returned from her gran's after days away, cleaned out the guinea pigs, put a wash on, dyed her hair purple, found the missing door key and went out again. She assured me she does like us Hmm.

I keep seeing results day in the calendar when I'm booking things in Shock.

Ono40, where in Africa has your DS been? Mine came back on Saturday and the smell was quite strong to say the least!!

ono40 · 06/08/2015 17:07

DS back from his travels to Africa - I simply cannot describe the smell in the kitchen right now and if the backpack and contents weren't needed for DofE in a couple of weeks, I'd bin the lot. He had a great time - I was hoping he would have learnt how to close drawers, pick up clothes from the floor and bring cups downstairs but apparently not....

My stomach is doing somersaults about R-Day! I have just texted DH to tell him he will have to take DS to school as I cannot face it. I will be at home in case I need to swing into action with Plan B. Do you think we could have a group go at coming up with 'calming down phrases' in case the results aren't what they wanted as all mine seem to do the opposite and make things worse?

HSMMaCM · 06/08/2015 13:56

I have to drive DD to school, unless she's already at a friends house. I am strictly not allowed into the school grounds Grin

Checking back in with this thread.

Have had a quick skim.

So, it's just been me and DS at home these past couple of weeks while husband and DS2 have been in France.

I've been working all the time but doing things either with DS or with my friends in the evening - a nice time to do stuff w/o a demanding 6 yo around.

DS annoying me a bit in the last week or so. I got him full membership to the sports centre for 6 weeks which to be fair he has used a great deal, but apart from that there's been rather a lot of sitting at his laptop or playing guitar.

I get frustrated cos I'm sitting in my garden office working away and he's got days and days to himself to do whatever he likes (within the constraints of being 16 and money etc) but sits in his room tinkering.

Hello - Just popped back to see if the thread is still going!

Starting to feel a little queasy about results day. Don't know what DS's plans are for the day or when/how he will let us know what he's got.

I like the idea of messaging a photo of the results, will save any miscommunications!
