It was WJEC MrsBartlet

MrsBartlet · 14/08/2015 20:34

Which board was it NiceCardigan? Dd was ok but quite a few of the others had very unexpected results. They did Edexcel.

Polgara2 · 14/08/2015 20:12

Well I came to the party late but found great reassurance on here so thank you! What uni support thread?

DS said that school are asking for a remark of all the English coursework as everyone went down by two grades. DS got an A overall with over 90% on the written exam but a B in the coursework. Not sure what went on but the English department are very cautious about grades and DS had been told to expect a high A. One girl needs a quick remark because her uni place depends on it but the rest won't be done as quickly.

waiting Glad your DS is happy with his insurance (York, was it?).

I too hope my DS has learnt the importance of work. It's quite difficult for those kids who find most subjects relatively easy until quite a late stage in their education (for my DD1, it was not until her 2nd year at uni)

Cathy - glad your DD has been reassured by Bristol. Coping with the uncertainty is so hard.

Horsemad · 14/08/2015 14:17

Great news Cathy. Pleased to hear that Smile

Waiting - our 6th Form Head called today as he could see that DS hasn't yet accepted his alternative offer and he said quite a few of the year had had the same problem - overachieving in one subject, underachieving in another but UCAS points unchanged and had missed their firm as a result. I think it's really unfair.

I really hope my DS has learnt a hard lesson from these results.

DD had a lovely chat with admissions and accommodation at Bristol, they were friendly, helpful and reassuring. She has until 31st to apply for guaranteed accommodation and they will hold her place until Cambridge reject her.
Everything feel a little better now :)

Waitingaround · 14/08/2015 13:15

Hang on in there horsemad Flowers
My Ds spoke with his college today and is now much more positive about going to his insurance - he is looking at freshers activities and joining FB groups etc
He and I do wish he had chosen a different firm though as it seems harsh that they rejected him (seeing as he overachieved in one subject but missed in another- UCAS points were unchanged) but that's life. I'm now hoping that he understands that he can no longer coast in his studies and actually needs to work!! Basically I'm hoping this minor setback helps him grow up a bit.

They made the grades but not high enough UMS?!?! Surely that can't be right.
We'll get on to Bristol as soon as she's up! Don't think she can accept and apply for accom. until Cambridge reject her though. I've planned a day trip to Bristol early next week, to remind her how much she loved it and to suck up relentlessly to the accommodation officers!!! Grin

DS has applied for his Essex accommodation this morning, also joined the Essex freshers facebook group, so is getting really stuck in.
I think I am much more disappointed that he didn't get to Soton than he is

cathyandclaire · 14/08/2015 10:29

Hope they all had a wonderful night and have a lovely, lazy day nursing their hangovers!

Dd absolutely didn't want to go out, she's very social usually and has a great group of friends she just couldn't face re-explaining every 5 mins that she's missed her Cambridge offer. So sad when she really does have cause to celebrate. There are 3 parties over the next few days so hopefully she'll rally.

She 's on hold still and in limbo, which I think makes it more difficult. What do you all think should she talk to Bristol so we can start thinking about accommodation? Remarks could take a while and I'm stressing.

bruffin · 14/08/2015 10:17

Horsemad

DS was desperate to go to Southampton last year for engineering but went into clearing. He decided to retake and applied again and got a better offer than last year from Soton, but he decided instead he firmed and insured with 2 non RG unis and is now going to Surrey.

This year has been so good for him, he has had to self tutor himself in some areas as the school changed curriculum and had some great experiences in school as well which looked good on his new ps. He is now a year older and more mature. DS has dyslexic problems so can be very disorganised etc and hopefully this extra year of maturity will help with that when he has to fend for himself

NiceCardigan · 14/08/2015 10:12

I'm not sure what time DS got in I think nearly every 18 year old in the town was out last night! I hope those who aren't quite sorted out yet get something soon. DS is doing a weeks work experience where DD1 works next week so will give him a bit of extra money to get him through the social whirl.

mumslife DD1 didn't have a bus pass in the first year it wasn't worth it as she didn't go into the city enough. She had one in second and third year when she lived off campus.

Horsemad · 14/08/2015 10:08

Good Morning Everyone!

Hope everybody is ok after the celebrations and that the hangovers aren't toooo bad!
DS didn't go out, but then he never does anyway, so I don't think he would have even if his results had been great. He is being very uncommunicative so I am no further forward with knowing his decision.

DH has gone into a depression - it's really upset him that DS hasn't done well (he's very high achieving and has high expectations) so I'm having to work extra hard to keep the pair of them talking. It's not so much the fact that DS's grades are poor, but that he will not communicate with us that's getting to DH I think.

It's hard work here Sad

seimum, I'm sorry your DS didn't get the end result from Soton, I'm sure he will be fine at Essex once he settle in and at least he's doing the course he wants Smile

BlueStringPudding, I asked DS last night which was more important to him, Comp Sci or a degree from a RG uni and he said a degree from a RG uni . I fear he's bought into the RG Myth sadly.

So, I guess he'll go to Soton to do Chemistry.

I can honestly say, the whole A level thing has been an horrific experience - from the minute he started, it's been one long stress. I have to do this all over again in 2 yrs with DS2, and I am already praying it is much better next time round!!

To everyone on here - I've really enjoyed your contributions and company along the way and I wish Good Luck to your DC for their future studies.

Cathcustard - 1 of DD's friends is still on hold for his firm choice which seems very unfair as they have had his results since Friday. Luckily his insurance choice is a good option. But he is unhappy that they just won't make a decision - I suspect they are waiting to see who contacts them regarding Adjustment. They said they would email him by last night with a decision but they then sent him an email saying he is still on hold. Hope he gets sorted today.
