My daughter got her results last year. She ended up with her insurance, but was texted by another uni that she had rejected after interview ( UEA) who said if she wasn't happy with the insurance place they were interested in her. ( she felt it was a bit far from us which is why she had rejected it but loved the campus). So it does seem as if you can still negotiate sometimes after the event.

I feel for you all, it was the worst of days. Our school opened really early, before track so we made the mistake of going in at opening time. It would have been much better I think to try track first. We had an agonising wait knowing she made neither offer...

I know things are different year on year but places were dropping offers last year at lot.

We finally arrived and loving Norfolk already Smile
Hellsbells, DS was very taken with the 'mood lighting' in the accommodation at Bath!! He's wondering if UEA might have the same? Hmm

Thanks Gypsy.
Good choice by your DD Mumslife! We loved it but unfortunately a long way from us.

GypsyFloss · 07/08/2015 18:49

hellsbells as far as I know your Dd can add her account info online on the student finance website.

Thanks everyone for the Santander info. I will get her to add her current account details. Can she do this online or will she need to fill the form in they sent us when she applied originally?
Horsemad - we visited UEA as DD1 did a summer course there last year. It is quite ugly in terms of buildings (reminded me of Bath uni) but a lovely campus. A lot of accommodation was on campus with another 'student village' just off the campus. We all loved it (and loved Norwich as well) but DD didn't end up applying because she decided it was just too far away.

GypsyFloss · 07/08/2015 15:10

hellsbells We need to do the same with Santander. We were told to make an appt with the confirmation letter from uni and they will change it to a student account. They said that you keep the same back account details , it's just an admin thing from their end and also to access the railcard. So your Dd could put her current account info on to student finance now if she wants.

MrsBartlet · 07/08/2015 15:04

I feel your pain Horsemad - I visit Norfolk several times a month for work and queue to get in regularly. It's worth it though as it is such a beautiful part of the country. Have fun!

circular · 07/08/2015 14:56

hellsbells Yes - Santander told DD they will convert from Mini 123. But they have to go in with ID etc to make the changeover, and will need appointment. Not sure if you can convert early, but DD didn't want to as has existing railcard.

Horsemad · 07/08/2015 14:45

Currently queueing to get into Norfolk Smile might have a little visit to UEA while we're here - it's about the only Uni in the UK we haven't visited in the past year Grin

hellsbells99 · 07/08/2015 14:23

Welcome back mumslife! DD1 is happy now - saw her boyfriend last night & has gone into town to meet friends for lunch. I have told her to go into Santander to enquire about opening a student account.
Does anyone know if she can do this before results day? And also if she already has a teenage account with them, can they convert this and so keep the same account details? She hasn't filled in any bank details on student finance and I am worried it may delay her loan assuming she is going to university somewhere
DD2 is also out for lunch .....and they have left me with all the holiday washing! At least I am not back to work until Monday Grin

Thanks Littleham . Durham are saying they will notify everyone by the following Weds if they are being considered as near misses but yes I can see that even hanging around that long might cause problems with the insurance. At the moment DD still isn't keen to take the insurance option so if she misses the A* and has no luck with the near miss, then she will probably take a gap year and reapply to Durham for languages only.

Littleham · 07/08/2015 11:16

GypsyFloss - Your dd probably wouldn't have to notify her insurance if Durham eventually accepted her as it would all go via Ucas.

Hi GypsyFloss. When dd1 logged onto track last year her Firm (Durham) showed as a Rejection and her Insurance (Bristol) had not updated. She already knew that she had missed her grade in one A Level as she had one terrible exam so she wasn't surprised.

We had six people on different lines ringing Bristol and my youngest was victorious when his line got through. It was really lovely to see dd1's siblings spring into support action. Grin When she spoke to Bristol they were able to confirm that she had been accepted.

One word of caution GypsyFloss. Durham has a bit of a reputation (see student room threads from last year) of keeping near misses hanging around and then rejecting them two weeks later once all the clearing places have been snapped up. This wouldn't be a worry if your dd's insurance shows as unconditional but might still mess you up on the accommodation front.

Thanks Bluestringpudding that's helpful. I wondered whether the insurance would be expecting her to accept their offer but I hadn't thought that an on hold type message would also put the insurance on hold.

Horsemad · 07/08/2015 10:29

It's all becoming very real now! Hmm We are off for a few days but returning on Wed, just in time for the nerves to kick in big time. Grin

BlueStringPudding · 07/08/2015 10:25

DD1 had a near miss at Bristol last year. When she went onto Track she was showing as On Hold or similar, so she rang them up (took several hours to get through), and was told that they had confirmed her place straight away, and they didn't know why it wasn't showing on Track. I think her Insurance offer showed as Unconditional or similar, but then when Bristol went to Unconditional it updated her Insurance place as being rejected. I can't remember exactly, but we didn't talk to the Insurance at all, as there was no need as they would have had to take her if Bristol had rejected her.

It is really difficult to get through to universities on results day - we had 2 of us on different lines on constant redial for 4 hours to get through to Bristol - so I really wouldn't waste your or their time if you don't need to.

DD1 had a remark and ended up with equivalent grades to her offer in the end, but it was still technically a miss.

GypsyFloss · 07/08/2015 09:36

Near miss question ... Littleham did you go through this with your Dd and Durham last year?

If DD ends up being considered by her firm as a near miss does she have to notify her insurance that she may not being taking their place if she gets in to her firm? Does that make sense?

AtiaoftheJulii · 07/08/2015 08:44

Many years ago, when my SIL was waiting for her results, FIL was working in university administration, and knew people in similar posts around the country. On the Tuesday he asked someone at her firm (did we have firm and insurance back then? I don't remember) whether she'd got in or not - and they told him!

Horsemad · 07/08/2015 07:26

Eeeek! Shock I thought it was Sunday they received them?

hellsbells99 · 07/08/2015 07:19

The universities will be receiving our DCs' results later today Shock
