Yes it does Gypsy - it is great. We have just started watching The West Wing with dd (who has watched it before) and ds (his first time - he is 14). I am embarrassed to say it is about the 5th time of watching for dh and I Blush

GypsyFloss · 10/08/2015 20:23

MrsBartlett does Newsroom have the same dry humour that The West Wing has? I'm on my second round through the seasons of WW and need to find a new fix.

AtiaoftheJulii · 10/08/2015 19:58

I guess if the plan all gets done in time then all's well - otherwise cathy I hope you're ready to sit by the phone pressing redial to her insurance if necessary Smile (See Littleham's story above!)

My dd has booked the Thursday and Friday off, although if things go well, she'll probably go in, but her arrangement is very flexible! With a set up like your dd's I think she should probably go and just get on with whatever is needed on the day.

MrsUltracrepidarian · 10/08/2015 19:47

Cathy - your DD is very impressive!! With planning like that she will be a massive success whatever happens re Uni. Really good to have it all organised and under control. ( And hoping she won't actually need to do all that!)

cathyandclaire · 10/08/2015 19:05

No other intro day for at least two weeks

cathyandclaire · 10/08/2015 19:04

That's what DD said MrsU, it's tricky, there is no other intro day at least two weeks.
Her plan is:
Day before look at clearing (unlikely for her course)
On the day check UCAS track and A2 results online (school intranet) at 8am.
If news is bad e-mail college with copies of A2 UMS ( all contact details ready next to computer)
Drive to school and order re marks if necessary (forms already printed and chequebook ready!)
Phone insurance (numbers by phone)
Cry.
Go to work and distract herself.
< meanwhile Cathy collapses into heap>

Littleham · 10/08/2015 19:00

It is fine if they get the results they want but if they are not so lucky they need to be home to make phone calls to clearing universities (or to their firm / Insurance if there is no update). That is why they need to keep the day free.

MrsUltracrepidarian · 10/08/2015 18:55

Surely better to be working that day? On my A level results day I was (re-taking) my driving test and everyone else was at work. Since when did it become a sit-at-home-and-angst day?
DS will log-on to school intranet and get the results online and then go to work...

Horsemad · 10/08/2015 18:11

I think she needs to not be working on Thursday Cathy.

MrsBartlet · 10/08/2015 18:03

I have a very busy week with work this week which is helping keep the stress at bay. Dd has started a summer job today (hurrah!) She is largely working from home but it is helping to distract her as well. Hopefully, this could be a job for her holidays from university as well (if she is going that is Grin).

She also has friends coming over on Wednesday for a Sorkin-fest! They are going to watch as many episodes of Newsroom in a day as they can which should serve as a useful distraction.

Littleham · 10/08/2015 18:01

My daughter was in this position last year and she needed to be in all day.

MrsBartlet · 10/08/2015 17:58

I don't think she should cathyandclaire. Can she do it another day? Surely they will understand that it is results day. If she does get the results she wants, it will probably be very difficult for her to concentrate and if she doesn't she will need to be contacting her unis and not worrying about being at work.

cathyandclaire · 10/08/2015 17:53

Hi all! I hope you don't mind me coming on to pick your brains :)
Hi all, wondering if I could pick your brains.
DD has just got a job and been waiting for the health and safety/intro day before she can start and has just been told it's on Thursday 10-4.
Nightmare!
She does NOT feel positive about getting the grades (A*AA) is particularly worried about falling to a B in one, which went badly and would mean that she could miss her insurance too.
Her course isn't done in many unis and has small numbers so clearing is probably unrealistic-if she misses she would probably e-mail her Uni with her UMS ( they were asked to do this )and get one remarked if it's at all close.
So should she go? If she needs to resit she'll need a job but should she be doing other stuff on Thursday?

NiceCardigan · 10/08/2015 17:06

I've managed to reset my stress levels a bit today which is a good job or I may have exploded. We're keeping busy and have the theatre booked for Wed evening to pass the time.

Good luck to your DH bruffin

bruffin · 10/08/2015 16:10

I have come out in a stress rash Sad

Ds has repeated year 13 so really dont want the disappointment of last year.

DD gets her AS results on thursday was well and she thinks she has done really badly. She has a plan b as she has been offered an apprenticeship at the local SN school.

DH is waiting to hear if he has got the job he applied. He has been through 2 inteviews and they were interviewing one more person tomorrow.

Horsemad · 10/08/2015 15:54

I did muffin monster, in the dead of night when I couldn't sleep (on holiday, strange bed and DH snoring having had a drink or two!).

muffinmonster · 10/08/2015 15:46

Horsemad, I can't believe you read the whole thread? Even the spat about Russell Group Universities?

Therapeutic baking going on here, too, Littleham - DD is having a bake-off with her best friend this afternoon. (Hopefully there will be no chocolate mousse involved.)

It's hard for her because her boyfriend and best friend both have unconditional offers, while she may very well not have met her offers.

MrsBartlett and Gypsyfloss, I feel the same. I want DD to do well, but I really don't want her to leave. Sad

After this, I think I will find it hard to take DS's GCSEs seriously next year.

Headofthehive55 · 10/08/2015 14:57

I imagine it's very difficult with twins, or two expecting results. It was difficult enough with all my DDs friends making their offers. They all wanted to meet up and celebrate whereas my DD wasn't really in the mood. Of course Facebook goes mad and you are fielding phone calls from friends and relations...still the tables were turned this year as she was the only one to get a paid work experience placement out of the same group of friends.

AtiaoftheJulii · 10/08/2015 10:34

I'm on leave. I've arranged for friends to come for lunch tomorrow and Wednesday, so hoping that will help. Today will be tidying to make the house vaguely toddler-ready for tomorrow. Feel a bit sorry for dd2 - at least last year the AS and GCSE results were different days - this year I really can't get myself too worked up about her AS results and am not really joining in with her angsting!

Horsemad · 10/08/2015 09:22

Is it only Monday? Confused Sad This week is dragging so much...

Antaresisastar · 10/08/2015 08:08

Duffcake, twins here too and am dreading the scenario where one of them is disappointed.

seimum · 09/08/2015 23:12

Good luck with the new job nicecardigan

It's my birthday on Thursday - DS getting good results would be the best present.

duffcake · 09/08/2015 21:18

So you're almost in the same boat hells? Fingers crossed for all our DC.
I keep repeating the mantra 'There's always an alternative way of getting where you want to be', trying to convince myself really Wink

hellsbells99 · 09/08/2015 19:27

Good luck Duffcake - and have some Wine from me too.
I have 1 waiting for AS results who will have done well and 1 waiting for A level results who is doubting that she has met her offers. It will be hard if 1 is happy and 1 is crying Sad
