it was maths, foundation level.
I am not calling the son's school I dont want police and social workers swarming over my house.

SugarPlumTree · 04/06/2015 12:06

Sunny the wine in my post was aimed at you amongst others and am very sorry what you had to contend with this morning , sounded very stessful. Am working so dipping in and out quickly.

When I say my DD found it OK I'm tatalkitalking about the Foundation paper - she is hoping to not repeat the F from her mocks, is not likely to get a C and is borderline for getting 5 C ' s for 6th form. I'm just relieved she isn't in floods of tears as my poor friend had to contend with earlier.

SunnyBaudelaire · 04/06/2015 12:06

I dont know teenandtween, she had already done one paper....I am sooo upset. Yes she probably thought she would fail anyway. She is not 'very bright' like normal mumsnet children.
No she just missed the exam, there was no way to get to town.
Thanks for your response...

funambulist · 04/06/2015 12:05

Sunny I'm sorry you had a stressful start to the day.

Did your daughter make it to her exam? What was / is she taking today?

I can understand you being upset about your son riding a motorbike without a helmet. Perhaps for your own piece of mind you could call the school so that they can reassure you that he got there okay.

SunnyBaudelaire · 04/06/2015 12:04

oh right its a support thread then. I see. Yes very supportive.

TeenAndTween · 04/06/2015 12:03

Sunny just seen your post (I don't read all of them, just dip in and out). I'm not surprised you are furious - and missing maths of all things! Did you get her in in the end? Presumably she thought she would fail so decided not to bother? Very annoying for the teachers too.

tbtc · 04/06/2015 12:02

Sorry sunny if my post came across as boasting - I can see why it does.
Pride/boasting - it's a fine line.

I don't really know what mumsnetty is, I don't think I fit the mould.

How did your DD get to her exam?

Eve · 04/06/2015 12:01

no update on maths yet form DS.

..and it is a support thread, whilst I'm anxiously waiting to hear how DS got on, I've come here to get a feel for how the paper was.

TeenAndTween · 04/06/2015 12:00

Sunny I think it is generally supportive. Just that people sometimes share their relief that an exam went well, which can be hard if your DC was in the same exam and it didn't. There is an 'average or low achievers' thread running too.

Personally what I hate is DD coming out of an exam, telling me it went well, then mentioning all the questions she missed out, or question details where I realise she made a mistake. I try to ban her from telling me details, I'd rather be in blissful ignorance. Smile

Only 4 to go now.

funambulist · 04/06/2015 11:59

My DS found Edexcel iGCSE hard, along with most it seems. He was a bit down when he came out. I managed to distract him eventually by asking him questions about FIFA and the likely ramifications of the on-going scandal. He seems to be something of an expert on the intricacies of this news story, which does make me wonder how much revision is going on.

SunnyBaudelaire · 04/06/2015 11:59

of course we are all pleased...
just that everyone ignored my post as it probably was not 'mumsnetty' enough, too many problems. Wahtever.

TheWordFactory · 04/06/2015 11:57

What are you on about sunny?

No one's boasting! If someone's kid found an exam went well, I think we're all pleased for them Confused.

This is a great thread and the fact that we all keep coming back to it shows it is supportive/entertaining/cathartic.

SunnyBaudelaire · 04/06/2015 11:50

I thought this was a 'support thread' - ? silly me, it seems to be some kind of boasting competition.

tbtc · 04/06/2015 11:39

DS on his way home and has said he will come for a 5 mile run with me. Yay. I am insanely happy about this. Love that boy, I do.

TranquilityofSolitude · 04/06/2015 11:31

I had a text when I was out yesterday asking for a new compass (well, pair of compasses) and a packet of plasters as "there's been an accident". Apparently the maths teacher had said DD should tighten her compass up with a screwdriver before the exam and she managed to break the compass and jab herself painfully in the process...

SugarPlumTree · 04/06/2015 11:31

WineWineWine to everyone who needs it. DD found Edexcel foundation ok but fire alarm went off in the middle due to something that happened on Home Economics. They stayed in and got several mins at end but it broke her concentration.

Her friend was doing Higher Paper and said it was hard. Friend just rang, she has picked up her DD who did higher paper (not sure which board) who is in floods of tears convinced she has failed.

smoothieooo · 04/06/2015 11:27

Yup. Maths a hard one. DS1 has been spoken to about the need to be more organised and by the time I get home from work I expect to see his room decluttered and his bag ready for tomorrow

LineRunner · 04/06/2015 11:20

No word from DS yet. Unusual.

Ah! I hear the door...

TranquilityofSolitude · 04/06/2015 11:18

I think it was Edexcel but I'm not certain.

tbtc · 04/06/2015 11:17

DS says his maths went well. He's happy.

thunderbird69 · 04/06/2015 11:12

Smoothie - had similar in our house. DS realising that he didn't have a protractor last night. Managed to find a broken one in the bottom of his brother's schoolbag and sellotaped it together. I bulk bought not long ago - god knows where they all go.

Tranquility - which exam board was that?

SunnyBaudelaire · 04/06/2015 11:09

well I sent dd16 out of the house at 7.20 to get the school bus to do her maths exam, she went off the opposite way to see her pony instead. I am furious. I do not drive at the moment so could not drive her in. We live in he middle of nowhere. Meanwhile, after my son had pointed out what she had done, he took the opportunity to set off for his exam on an illegal motorbike with no helmet.
I am seriously upset.

TranquilityofSolitude · 04/06/2015 11:02

Oh dear. Maths very hard apparently.

smoothieooo · 04/06/2015 10:57

Ridiculous levels of anxiety in the Smooth household this morning. DS1 has managed to lose his clear bag containing pencils, ruler, protractor, compass and basically everything he needs for his non-calc maths this morning. I was trying to be very calm (but was inwardly furious he didn't check his bag last night).

DS2 came to the rescue by supplying the required stuff with a gruff 'I need it all back'. Thank goodness...
