Dingit, same here - if only DS would listen to DD!

dingit · 05/05/2015 10:30

Juggling, I agree Art is the worst! And DD needs an A to do graphic design next year.
My Ds is in year 9, and I so wish he would listen to his big sister!

JugglingFromHereToThere · 05/05/2015 10:10

dd did make me laugh with conversation as I drove them in to school, saying "You've got to love the pathetic fallacy" It was raining Grin

She then proceeded to explain the concept to her younger brother - he learns a lot from her - she'd already just told him that Y9 is nearly as much of a breeze as Y8 (which he is currently in) But he should pay attention in sciences and RS after Christmas! (because start covering GCSE topics in those subjects then)
Insider knowledge - younger brothers and sisters have it so much easier I reckon, especially when they're at the same school

JugglingFromHereToThere · 05/05/2015 09:53

Well that was tough. Just got dd in on time for her second and final day of art after she was up virtually all night completing her sketch-book. She got literally a couple of hours sleep. Of course I was far from happy about this but when I went to see her on several occasions during the night she said she had to finish it and pointed out quite logically that the preparatory work is worth 30% of total and the finished piece itself is worth 10%. Final exam as a whole is 40% of total marks, the rest on course-work/portfolio.

dh has been harrumphing about about this type of behaviour from dd saying she is an idiot (when she stays up nearly all night) disparaging art as a subject (because I guess he worries it's taking up all her time - but he's never done this before. I thought we both loved both of our DCs creations and love of art Confused)

Keeping the peace and steering dd through her preparations to her art exam has been exhausting. Am just having a morning coffee now Brew to hopefully stop me going straight back to bed!

Please tell me art is the worst and we'll have it out of the way by the end of the day!

TheWoollybacksWife · 05/05/2015 08:04

Good luck everyone.

Horse a week's notice is plenty Wink although it brings back memories of the texts I used to get at Governors meetings "Muuuum. I've got cookery tomorrow and I need..."

auntpetunia · 05/05/2015 07:50

Hugh good luck to all the DC and their poor mothers today who start the first exams CakeBrew for the kids and Wine for The mums

Horsemad · 05/05/2015 07:46

Wish they were babies again! Much easier at that stage Smile

QOD · 05/05/2015 07:44

Good luck everybody's babies!

ShanghaiDiva · 05/05/2015 07:33

Good luck to those taking exams today. My ds (year 10) has iGCSE English. In fact he is due to finish the paper in 15 minutes!

Horsemad · 05/05/2015 07:28

Good Luck to everyone sitting exams today, first one next week for both of mine.

Re. new suit, I've ordered a couple and have a friend with a DS a year older who has offered his, so hopefully we'll be OK!

Kids eh!

OddBoots · 05/05/2015 07:12

Lots of luck to all those dc (and parents) with exams starting today.

bigTillyMint · 05/05/2015 07:06

Yes, Good Luck to all those starting today!

TheWordFactory · 05/05/2015 07:00

Good luck to all our DC today Shock!!!!!

MadAsgardian · 05/05/2015 06:45

Here we go. DD had a good old cry and stress out last night over physics revision but seems ok this morning.

Good luck to all DCs today.

bigTillyMint · 05/05/2015 06:44

Horse, is there anyone he could borrow from? If not, DH (who hates shopping but we have a wedding to go to in 2 weeks) needed a new suit so we (can't make a fashion decision on his own) ordered 3 online and he sent 2 back. They come pretty quickly!

SugarPlumTree · 05/05/2015 06:44

Grin at vegetable innuendo, I love teenagers ( most of the time), they can be so funny.

Thanks Errol. As you know she is really struggling with these exams and it has boosted her confidence and given her something to work for. I keep saying see these exams as an annoying hurdle to jump to get you where you want to be. I'mI'm very proud of her, she put a huge amount of effort into her film and did it all by herself.

Well it is D day or rather IGCSE English Language day. Good luck to everyone with a child sitting it.

Horsemad, that's a bit of a nightmare with the suit. Does he know anyone who isn'yisn't going to the presentation night but had prom last week that he could borrow one from?

Horsemad · 05/05/2015 00:40

Hmm, DS2 just bounced on me before going to bed that he needs a suit for Fri evening - just like that!
We are miles from any decent shops and he doesn't arrive home until 4.30pm.

We had planned to do prom suit shopping at half term but his footy managers have requested suits for their presentation evening. Of course, half the team had their prom last week and so are sorted. We are not!!! Hmm

QOD · 04/05/2015 23:15

I'm such a div. I need to check.posts before hitting post!

BOYS Grin

ErrolTheDragon · 04/05/2015 22:28

Wishing the best of luck for your DD for tomorrow, sugar. Brilliant news about the film, that must have boosted her confidence in herself. The thing is - there may be thousands of kids who can get a string of A* gcses, but hardly any with a chance of getting their work shown in a film festival. She's obviously got a real talent.

We've still got another week to go. DD did her last volunteering session on Saturday and got it signed off for her DofE. Quite a lot of other revision and some past papers done too, I think. She did half an Eng Lit (poetry) this morning and reckons she's starting to get the hang of the sort of bullshitting required. Of course I've not been allowed to read it, though I'm curious to know what the heck she made of 'To his coy mistress' (having mentioned to me 'vegetable innuendo'. Hmm)

SugarPlumTree · 04/05/2015 18:30

Depressingly it is bag packed for English Language GCSE tomorrow rather than Houston !

spudmasher · 04/05/2015 18:22

So does your DD get to go to Houston Sugarplum? You said bag packed......or is bag packed for school tomorrow!?

So glad DDs school does not do study leave. At least the teachers can be on her back at school- they have their reputation to preserve and DD owes them that. She's had a great time at school and loves her teachers so that should count....shouldn't it?

SugarPlumTree · 04/05/2015 18:17

That's great Spudmasher and nagtastic is what I am trying not to be tooGrin

Boys Grammar makes sense now, I'm very slow off the mark today (well most of the time at the moment).

spudmasher · 04/05/2015 18:13

Littleham now there's an idea- food bribes!
But the way I'm feeling at the moment, that could go too far.....no revision=no food.

bigTillyMint · 04/05/2015 18:12

Littleham, my DM did the same and I developed an aversion to museums and piles of stones!
Both of mine are very interested in 20th Century history, and WW2 in particular!

Littleham · 04/05/2015 18:11

and well done to mini SugarPlum for the film short listing. Fantastic. Smile
