Back to school for dd today too.
We ended the holiday on a high, in London doing the Shaun the Sheep trail!
Art exam tomorrow.

ErrolTheDragon · 12/04/2015 23:47

Alarm set for 6:25, back to school routine. DD did a eng Lang paper this morning which I was pleased about. Yesterday she did her volunteering so she got some sunlight and a bit of physical activity.

TeenAndTween · 12/04/2015 17:10

Have spent a fun 45 minutes this afternoon, trying to convince a reluctant DD that if an object is moving at constant velocity there is no resultant force, even if it is going upwards.

Oh, also that if you throw a ball up into the air it slows down.

She needs to accept that I and Newton are right, even if she doesn't know why!

I have told her only 9 more weeks of physics, and to go with the flow, but she's hard to convince.

SugarPlumTree · 12/04/2015 15:51

My friend's DS did it last summer amd now has to repeat it this summer for College' even though he has already done it for some strange reason. He enjoyed it.

OddBoots · 12/04/2015 15:35

It's a shame no-one else is doing the NCS although I can totally understand why. DS's gives over results day too but as that is one of the local weeks not an away week I am hopefully he will be able to go and get his results.

I have just been working on a revision timetable with DS, he is happy to do the work but struggles to get himself organised so it's a combined effort to plan.

DS only has one exam clash, both are AM exams and he has no PM that day so he should be okay with a brief supervised break between.

SugarPlumTree · 12/04/2015 11:34

It's the Cambridge IGCSE DD is doing. That sounds like a heavy day for her on the 12th. Guess it will be good to get that over with early on.

No sign of DD as yet. The pressure definitely starting get to her again I noticed yesterday . That means I need to exude super chilled vibes so we're putting up the garden swing seat thingy and I'm going to sit out with a book for a bit and chill (well that's the plan).

bigTillyMint · 12/04/2015 11:22

DD's IGCSE isn't on those dates. She is doing Edexel - is that different to the ones yours are doing?
Her worst day is 12th May when she has French Listening and Reading and B2 and B3 I think.

She has said she is taking today off as she has to go in tomorrow even though it's an Inset day.

SugarPlumTree · 12/04/2015 10:24

Ohhh, so no chance I'm wrong then! Would have been helpful if it had been labelled English on the list really. She has 5,8,11,12,15,19 May then from what I can see then a gap.

dingit · 12/04/2015 10:09

Yep, dd has her Igcse English then too Sugar. Then a bit of a gap.
It seems when I panic, she doesn't, and vice versa.
Her worst week to me is triple science in the last week.

SugarPlumTree · 12/04/2015 09:43

On closer examination of the long exam list it does in fact look like English IGCSE is cunningly disguised at top of sheet on 5 and 8 May. I have urge to run around d the house shouting 'don't panic at the top of my voice ' but am going to put the kettle on instead. Rest of the house seem to be asleep still on last lie in of thd holiday.

SugarPlumTree · 12/04/2015 09:39

No not a holiday with revision!

So I decided to wade through the long list of exams we have been given but it's not obvious which ones DD doing in some cases and I still couldn't see the IGCSE English on there. Had a poke around and think that might be May 5th - very much hoping I am wrong!

Really wanting her proper timetable now as feel the need to know when they all are. They said after Easter so fingers crossed this week. Also hope the mock results are back this week.

It has just occurred to me that DS is away with school for a couple of nights in May so need to not let that creep up on me too fast.

Littleham · 11/04/2015 19:56

Mine are back on Monday. Sad The 'holiday' went by too quickly. Not really a holiday though....

dd3 has a French exam as soon as she goes back.

TheWordFactory · 11/04/2015 19:30

It is close to the exams and bloody stupid timing IMVHO.

But DD has worked hard and has next week off school too to get her head down beforehand. So hopefully ...

SugarPlumTree · 11/04/2015 19:16

I keep forgetting some of them have another week. That is close to the exams BTM !

bigTillyMint · 11/04/2015 18:55

I am dreading it all!

My DGodD has DOE next weekend - so close to the exams!

TheWordFactory · 11/04/2015 18:51

Monday? Shock. Mine have another week off.

DD has DofE next weekend I think.

SugarPlumTree · 11/04/2015 18:49

Sorry wasn't very clear, she isn't doing it at GCSE but her friends are. She was showing me their pieces on Facebook. Photography doesn't have the very long exam so she has escaped it (though something has happened to her dark room pictures that she is being very vague about )

Anyone dreading Monday when they go back ? It's feeling all a bit real.

TheWordFactory · 11/04/2015 18:47

Someone on MN very kindly advised me against art for DD as too time consuming!

I think if you have a real talent for it and enjoy it, then the time might be well spent? But DD would have just ended up turning it into a chore IYSWIM.

DS has had the day off revision; sport training this morning, voluntary work this afternoon. He also won almost 5o quid on the national Shock.

Poor old DDs horse fell pretty early ( as did mine).

bigTillyMint · 11/04/2015 18:03

That sounds like quite a good plan, splitting them up, dingit.

And Envy at your DD being finished with Art already, SugarPlum!

SugarPlumTree · 11/04/2015 17:58

That sounds very sensible Dingit. Flipping hard work all this isn't Wine

DD'S school and the other local one did the Art exam before Easter I think. Organised and DD are natural companions but I live in hope ! I'm working on the principle that if she is doing something she likes she will sort it and burying my head in the sand about that not happening !

dingit · 11/04/2015 17:53

Yes Tilly, she did a 5 hour day before Easter, and the other half this week. I didn't realise the Art teacher could pick the days, I thought it was a set day like other subjects. At first she had them together, until the teacher realised some of the class would be in Paris on the Friday, and rescheduled.

bigTillyMint · 11/04/2015 17:43

SugarPlum, at least one of the sixthforms DD is looking at won't let you take Photography AND Art. They say too similar I thinkGrin I haven't noticed any doing Graphic Design - I would have liked that! And the Art-Textiles DD is doing. I chose Home Ec over Art because I thought it would be easy! So wrong - the time-planning meal making etc was a nightmare!

Dingit, is she doing the Art exams already? DD has 3 days at the end of April. Gulp! And well done her/you on prioritising!

FearfullyAndWonderfullyMade · 11/04/2015 17:33

Photography and Art will go well together, as has been said, and as long as she is organised she'll be fine. DD has had to take a lot of photos as part of her art so she may find that one helps the other.

dingit · 11/04/2015 17:15

Sugar, they sound like they go well together, and despite the work load, dd has enjoyed it. She plans to do Graphic Design next year, ( needs an A from her Art), I must say I am Envy, it looks a brilliant course.

dingit · 11/04/2015 17:11

Dd is in last minute panic mode with her Art. Last part of exam on Tuesday, than that is it, I shall be glad to see the back of it.
We have just had a long conversation about her not doing any of the maths papers set, one by her teacher and two by her tutor. I have cancelled next weeks tutor session, and dh is emailing her teacher.
I think dd has prioritised correctly, Art comes over maths, as she wants to do it next year ( and needs an A) -, she has already banked her A for GCSE maths. The additional maths grade will just be a bonus, but she needs to practise. Hopefully she will gain some hours at school with art out the way.
We are all feeling a bit stressed! Tomorrow is strictly a family day out, she needs it before school on Monday.
