Mocks this week, and the reality of AS exams in a few months is starting to hit home. I don't think it will be an easy journey, so would welcome some company.

Just had dd on the phone in tears again about Maths. Not looking forward to 13th August....

MorvahRising · 20/05/2015 11:54

Oh crikey Atia! Haven't heard from DS but have also been reading TSR and it sounds grim. If it was that bad then I bet he didn't finish again poor soul.

AtiaoftheJulii · 20/05/2015 11:48

Haven't looked at the grade boundaries recently, but they're quite mobile for maths.

AtiaoftheJulii · 20/05/2015 11:47

Yeah, I'm sure it will come out in the wash.

Marni23 · 20/05/2015 11:24

Sorry to hear it was hard Atia. What are the grade boundaries like normally? Presumably they'll be lower if it was a tricky paper?

AtiaoftheJulii · 20/05/2015 11:04

So apparently Edexcel C2 was horrendous. Dd2 said "literally what the hell" and thinks she's lost at least 6 marks. The Student Room seem to agree with her, so I'm not getting too bothered yet!

GentlyBenevolent · 20/05/2015 09:09

DD leaves for school at 7:15 every day. Mind you I used to leave earlier when I was her age (my school did register at 8:15 FFS) and I, like her, am most decidedly not a morning person. We a heated debate this morning about the time of her exam, she was convinced it was 9 and did not even believe my photo of her timetable showing it is at 1 - she insisted in digging out her original from the depths of her bag to 'check'. :) She was pleased to find it was at 1 though, because she always feels sick for a while after arriving at school, especially in the summer (it's the bus. Driving into the sun doesn't help either). On the one hand you would think she would be fine today - she is literally steeped in the politics and history of the post war period - but on the other hand there can sometimes be such a thing as knowing too much. Sigh. At least after this she has nothing till music on 2 June and then only GS A2 after that. Good luck to everyone taking exams today.

ISingSoprano · 20/05/2015 09:03

Maths this morning for dd too. Good luck everyone - it'll soon be half term and we can recharge the batteries ready for the last push.

Northernlurker · 20/05/2015 07:59

dd was on her way to school at 7.20. Poor love :(

MorvahRising · 20/05/2015 07:30

Happy birthday to Gently's DD!

Atia hope your mum recovers soon and that DD feels OK for her papers today.

Good luck to everyone today - C2 Maths here and I know for a lot of you too - I really hope DS doesn't run out of time again . . .

AtiaoftheJulii · 19/05/2015 23:24

Maths and history for my dd too - both Edexcel. Took her to the walk in centre this evening as was concerned she might have tonsillitis - 'just' viral though, swollen tonsils but not infected. However, we did manage some useful maths revision whilst waiting, so it was worth going!

My mum's ill in hospital (not life-threateningly ill, but not really very well) and I'm trying to keep it all very low-key and reassuring for dd2, not sure I'm succeeding Sad French on Thursday, and then a long break before her last two maths papers, phew.

Good luck to everyone doing C2 tomorrow, and the History boys (and girls) in the afternoon Smile And to anyone doing anything else!

Northernlurker · 19/05/2015 23:06

Dd a bit tense tonight - maths and history tomorrow. Another day of churning stomach and fretting - for me! I bloody hate exam season!

almondcakes · 19/05/2015 23:03

DS had Physics and Geology today and has Maths tomorrow morning. He thinks they are going badly and that he knows nowhere near enough for tomorrow, but went to bed at nine.

I think we may have to look at what options are available come results today, but have no idea where to start.

TranquilityofSolitude · 19/05/2015 22:57

DD had the second Philosophy paper today. She said the question was good - apparently the question was on a specific topic so there were more than 20 different papers for her group this morning. I am baffled! DD started at this school in September and I haven't met any other parents, so I am completely in the dark and reliant on what I read here for information.

Just one exam left now - Sociology on Thursday.

Needmoresleep · 19/05/2015 22:57

Physics was 'strange'. Lots of describing graphs apparently. DD does not analyse and positively tries to avoid post mortem with classmates. But she fulfilled the basic requirement of completing the paper (dyslexic so this is an achievement ) and having something to say on each one.

Two more papers this week including chemistry, then half term. Can't wait. She is not even going to try to fit some university tours in as she needs a break and a chance to prepare for the remaining four exams. It's been quite a marathon.

hellsbells99 · 19/05/2015 22:32

Spoke to DD2 earlier and physics didn't go particularly well - but she knew this would be her worst paper/exam. She has maths tomorrow and says that will be fine (fingers crossed). Then chemistry & biology later this week. DD1 will also be sitting the same biology paper as she is doing a resit.
Good luck all for tomorrow.

MorvahRising · 19/05/2015 20:49

Really glad your DD had a more positive experience Bernadette.

MrsUltra hopefully all his other questions were OK!

Am v envious of everyone who's nearly finished. It seems like we've barely started - DS has maths C2 tomorrow and then another 8 exams after half term; two computing, one physics and five maths!

Marni23 · 19/05/2015 19:54

Bernadette great to hear that the Economics paper today went so much better than the first. Hopefully that will give your DD confidence for the remaining maths papers.

Happy birthday to your DD Gently. It was DD's last week. As you say, not much fun when it's in the middle of exams. Not great planning on our parts 17+ years ago!

History here tomorrow too, and then it's all over for DD. Hurrah!

GentlyBenevolent · 19/05/2015 18:54

DD1 has history tomorrow. Today is her birthday - not been much fun for her, really. Ah well.

MrsUltracrepidarian · 19/05/2015 18:30

Thanks again to all the lovely people on here.
Hear hear!
As I am at work all day, I don't usually get to talk to parents of other DC doing the exams so great to hear form others on here how the DC are finding them. Did see one friend last night who told me that there was an ominshambles over one of the history papers at her DD school (my DS not doing history so don't know if similar at his school). Apparently the DC were advised not to bother revising Thermidor (?) for the French Revolution as it had not come up in umpteen years.... And it did... She said her DD told her there was an almost audible gasp in the exam room.

BernadetteMatthews · 19/05/2015 18:21

Well DD is home and said the exam was ok. A few answers she wasn't happy with but overall feeling of relief here. She knows she didn't get full marks so will definitely need to resit but we were both so happy she finished it.

Maths tomorrow then all over except one more maths after half term.

Thanks again to all the lovely people on here. I was at my wits end last week and you've all been amazing Flowers

SecretSquirrels · 19/05/2015 17:45

Physics is a funny one. They can drop a lot of marks and still get an A. DS found this disconcerting doing past papers, one was 51/80 for an A.
His verdict today was it went well but not easy.

MrsUltracrepidarian · 19/05/2015 17:23

MorvahRising
You got more than I did - all DS told was that he had messed up one of the questions so won't be getting full marks.

MorvahRising · 19/05/2015 17:14

DS has just got back and seems pretty pleased with the physics, which is a relief after the maths last week! He said he was glad he'd revised the particle composition of the kaons (?) this morning because there was quite a long question on that.

He returned with an old computer he'd traded for something (he uses the parts for his computer repair business) and was so busy telling me all about it that it took me five minutes before I could get a word in edgeways to ask about the physics, by which stage I was virtually hopping up and down with frustration! Does it not occur to him that I've been wondering about it ALL DAY? (No text, nothing.) Honestly.

AtiaoftheJulii · 19/05/2015 10:59

Yes, hope your dd comes home happier today, having slain a demon or two!
