Waiting for DS1's Gcses results on 22nd of August. He did really well last year but, all the talk of moving grade boundaries has got me worried. Fingers are very tightly crossed for maths as this is the subject he struggles with most.

My DD had pneumonia before xmas and missed 4 weeks of school. God damn you bacteria keeping me awake tonight.

Why am I so stressed?! She's fast asleep!!!!

Goldmandra · 21/08/2013 23:59

Same here Horsemad.

DD1 has arranged to go and do some showjumping first thing tomorrow morning so I have to wait until midday to find out her results.

I can't believe she is in bed asleep and I am sitting up stressing!

Horsemad · 21/08/2013 23:53

Still up here, have been thinking about the results all evening.

Should go to bed but not feeling sleepy!

Joining thread as I'm stressing and DD1 is keeping it all inside.

I know her results won't be what they should be because, for a start, she only took 10 GCSEs while most of her peers have taken 12 or 13.

Due to AS and really appalling support in school, she missed all of Year 8 and about 50% of Year 9 of school and her lesson attendance for Years 10 and 11 was well below par for most subjects.

However, she is bright and worked hard, her predicated grades were all As or Bs so we're hopeful.

I just know that, whatever her results are tomorrow, I will blame the school for them not being better. With the right support she could have got a raft of A*s and I know that's not going to happen.

I keep reminding her of how much school/teaching she has missed and that three years ago we both thought she would never get back into school at all, so she's achieved an awful lot with the odds stacked heavily against her.

I've managed to put my emotions about the school's lack of support to one side up until now but tonight I am feeling angry. It will take a mammoth effort to keep that to myself tomorrow but I will do it.

Good luck to all your DDs and DSs. Lets hope the grade boundaries haven't been hiked through the roof at our children's expense and we all have lots to celebrate tomorrow Grin

DP is a teacher - and yes, he's extra stressed this year!

boschy · 21/08/2013 22:49

god I think it must be worst for teachers?? Having to go through this every single year...

we went up Lunnon today and distracted ourselves with lovely things at the V&A. good decision, everyone else in house now gone to bed, just me here chewing nails...

alistron1 · 21/08/2013 22:48

We're all having an early night so that we're up early enough to go and get the results. That's why I'm still up having a calming glass of wine. Today has been a VERY long day.

Chrissybaby · 21/08/2013 22:47

Goodluck to all but love to those who dont get what they want. Its not
the end of the world.DD was there last year and will never go to a Russel group uni but is much happier than most of her mates at 6thform college doing a BTEC. We had tears aplenty but she found her way,the country needs hairdressers as well

goingmadinthecountry · 21/08/2013 22:43

There are currently 7 sixteen year olds in my garden - they had a BBQ and played frisbee and are now all sitting distracting themselves round a firepit. Ds's is the third of mine to go through it but it doesn't get easier. He's very bright but very very dyslexic. We'll see...... Love him so much and he tries really hard.

circular · 21/08/2013 22:31

Good luck to all for the morning.

roisin · 21/08/2013 22:18

I'm waiting with bated breath to see what jolly japes the Exam Boards have played this year; gambling with my pupils' future prospects!

.. oh, and ds1 is picking up his results tomorrow.

lilibet · 21/08/2013 22:11

oh I'm not going to sleep Sad

BettyBotter · 21/08/2013 21:49

arrrggghhhh!

jibber

HepsibarCrinkletoes · 21/08/2013 21:32

DS is going to school at 9am for his with his mates. He promises to call me by 9:05 whatever. We'll see..

webwiz · 21/08/2013 21:22

I have to submit two draft chapters of my masters dissertation first thing tomorrow and I thought working on them would provide a distraction this evening but instead I'm tired and stressed and just want a glass of wine and an early night.

DS is watching a film with DD1 and seems ok.

OrmirianResurgam · 21/08/2013 21:16

DS still couldn't give a stuff but he wants dH and I to take him (even though we live 100 yards from the school gates!). And two of his mates have come back with DS from the cinema to stay the night so they don't have to walk so far in the morning. FFS!!! Why am I the only one in this house that CARES??

tapdancingmum · 21/08/2013 21:14

I am going to bed now as have not been sleeping very well this week. Don't know if this is anything to do with it Grin but have to be up and ready to leave at about 9.30am and I've not been waking up till gone 10.

I hope all your DC's get what they deserve and need and it is a happy day Smile

Wine Brew Cake all round methinks x

MrsDavidBowie · 21/08/2013 20:34

Dd is getting anxious..,luckily she has her maths (her worst subject) but is now worrying about everything else.
And she has just started a hellish period. Cue lots of shouting, swearing and general horribleness.

I'm having a glass of wine and keeping well away.

SauvignonBlanche · 21/08/2013 20:05

I'm feeling sick!
DS is very calm.

Ilovegeorgeclooney · 21/08/2013 20:03

oops sorry, I thought they were on general release

Horsemad · 21/08/2013 20:01

I won't find out DS1's results until about 10.30 as I have to be at a hospital appt, so DH is taking him to collect them.
I'm hoping one of them texts me or I'll be wondering how he's done!

No idea how the exams went - his stock answer after every one was 'fine'... Hmm He needs Bs in his A level choices so am hopeful he'll do it, but who knows!

Bati · 21/08/2013 19:48

Can I join you all, ds gets his gcse results tomorrow. He wants to do A level further maths and has been told he needs A* in maths to be able to do it
My dd1 still has a yr to go but has sat igcse maths and gcse core science this yr, however school have said exam results will be given 1st day back to those children going into yr11 so she still has 2 weeks to wait
I feel more nervous for my kids results than I ever did my own

Inncogneetow · 21/08/2013 19:31

Ilovegeorgeclooney: the english grade boundaries are not being published until 6am tomorrow. The ones that have been released are the UMS figures, which are always the same.

But what we need to know is the raw data figures. ie on the exam paper how many marks equates to a C, B and so on...
