GCSE options - History

I thought we had our daughter's GCSE options pretty much sorted out until tonight's parents evening. She wants to take GCSE History but is currently only working at a low Level 6. The history teacher we saw did a lot of teeth sucking and although didn't say an outright no her taking it as an option I think he was trying to put her off. He said that it is a very difficult GCSE and she should really be working at a higher level at this stage in order to get a good grade at GCSE. She isn't really interested in the alternatives offered - so we are a bit stuck. Anyone got an idea of whether a low Level 6 would be good enough or should we forget History?

Nice inclusive History dept they have there! I teach Music and will take anyone who shows interest, a willingness to work hard, an awareness that it's def not a chillout subject and at least a basic competence on an instrument or voice.

We get everything from A* to G all taught in the one class. We're praised for our inclusivity.

Stick History on her options sheet and tell the staff to get to a dentist with their teeth-sucking.

I can't see a problem with that - L6 is fine. In my dd's school, the only subject they formally mentioned about working at a certain grade is if they want to take the triple science - and then, they've been told they need to be a 'consistent' Level 6.

She is year 9 I guess?

If she makes average progress she would be on target for a C grade. I can't see a problem with that.
