Here we go........hold on tight!

My DD seems OK and still full of beans but her timetable has been nothing compared to most of your DCs. She thought English was OK today but wished she had been on foundation because they had to write a letter to a celebrity and she would have loved that! Sounds a very good question for Foundation, actually: something they can relate to and get their teeth into. Sounds like her paper wasn't as exciting.

Tomorrow she has the second Science Ideas paper and hopes it is somewhat like the one last week. She is currently revising the pre release. Then that is it until mid June, one final science module. Hopefully she can enjoy half term like she deserves too.

I know it's a really big week for some of your DCs so all the best for the papers to come.

Yep agree, Ds is begining to wilt and he had two screws inserted into his jaw this morning at the dentist (something to attach his braces to?). He has been very brave, not stopped working. 2 big exams tomorrow Business studies and Physics. Fingers crossed that his mouth doesnt give him pain tomorrow. Nothing then til the middle of the week after next. He is very excited that he is going to a pool party on thursday night and Friday and Saturday he is taking his RYA powerboat 2 course. If he passes he should be able to get a job this summer lifeguarding/sailing instructor. I think the rest of the week will be spent asleep. No half term here so supposed to be at school, we shall see, as there are only 3 exams after that, 2 x maths and history.

mumstoast · 29/05/2012 14:09

DD came home and said english language was ok but she couldnt concentrate for all the time so rambled, she said hopefully her writing has made up for her terrible reading (her words not mine) im sure she will have done fine but she is going to talk it through with her teacher tomorrow to get it all of her mind!

empirestateofmind · 29/05/2012 12:47

You and me both Gnome. Very similar posts!

GnomeDePlume · 29/05/2012 12:42

Anyone finding their DCs starting wilt a bit physically?

DD1 has started to develop a few aches and pains. Most I suspect are stress induced. She has another exam day at the end of the week then a week's half term break. I suspect she will be spending most of it asleep.

empirestateofmind · 29/05/2012 12:40

Kez that was a nice touch from the college to DD.

The chemistry wasn't too bad today apparently. DD1 is very happy that she never has to do chemistry ever again. It is physics tomorrow then a big break before maths in two weeks time.

I think she is flagging a bit, she hasn't felt very well today.

hellsbells99 · 29/05/2012 10:59

DD1 had WJEC English Language this morning - just had text saying it wasn't too bad - formal letter and guide/leaflet. That is us finished until after half-term - then 3 sciences and 2 maths to go! .......until January.....and then next June! ...and DD2 just starting year 10 soon....

glaurung · 29/05/2012 08:18

That's a very tough timetable gettingalife hope they go well. It seems to be pot luck whether they are spaced out well or all happening at once. At least if they are used to doing internal exams all together then they are in some way prepared better for the worst case scenario.

gettingalifenow · 29/05/2012 07:25

Big day here - 3 today (4 tomorrow).

And she's still in the shower! Ideally would have set off ten mins ago......

knittedslippersx3 · 29/05/2012 06:59

Dd exams are quite spaced out too, it's good though as she would crack if they were all on top of one another.
English Lang re-sit here today. She's off to school for 7:30 breakfast revision and the free bacon roll!
Science ideas tomorrow and that's it until after half term.
Good luck to everyone else this week.

BackforGood · 29/05/2012 00:20

My dd1 (in Yr8) came home a bit weary today, as her (internal) exams started, and she had 3 x 1 hr 15 min exams. ds was trying to make out he had it a lot harder as he was doing GCSEs - he actually did :
1 x 60min exam last Monday,
1x 60 min exam on Thursday, and that was it for last week,

and this week he has
1x 30min exam on Wed
2 x 60 min exams on Thurs, then a rest until 12th June!

She's not convinced! Grin

They are spaced out though, these exams, aren't they ?

Primrose123 · 28/05/2012 21:03

Thanks Cardi, that makes it a bit clearer! She's not feeling too confident, as they've just had a new teacher who is great, but it turns out the previous teacher hadn't done enough work with them so they're doing a lot of catching up. The new teacher is wonderful, she's staying after school with them to do extra. I don't think DD is doing Welsh first language, it's not a Welsh school, it's just that some of the others speak Welsh at home and we don't. I'll have to check with her.

glaurung · 28/05/2012 20:28

Dd's exam went well today she thinks - big relief since she's been distance learning (ie no lessons, and not much anything else) since October.

English language tomorrow (thankfully she doesn't have to do Welsh - that would be tough).

cardibach · 28/05/2012 19:06

Oh, and my non native speaking daughter did Welsh first language today too -she'll be fine: if they have entered her for this she has already shown an ability to write the language as well as most native speakers. Reason for pride! Well done your DD

cardibach · 28/05/2012 19:04

Modules are the actual exams like Y11 are taking, but they can often have the opportunity to take them in Y10 and resit in Y11 if necessary, Primrose. If she can do well, it'll take some of the pressure of next summer for both of you! Good luck to her.

Primrose123 · 28/05/2012 17:53

My DD is in Yr 10, but is doing 'modules' which I think is like a controlled assessment, and counts towards her final GCSE mark next year. This is all new to me. She had a Welsh written paper today, which went better than she had expected, but she finds it very hard, as most of the others are native Welsh speakers, and she is not. :(

petal2008 · 28/05/2012 17:27

Eng Lang resit tomorrow. Not sure why as he got an A first time round Confused. Apparently the margins for uni are so tight they have to get the best grade possible. Also got Further Maths which basically looks like a load of unpronouncable words and hieroglyphics so he's on his own with that! Been at school all day doing revision lessons in english and maths so don't think there will be much revision being done tonight.

Kez100 · 28/05/2012 16:22

My daughter has been sent a postcard today from one of the colleges she has a level 3 offer from, wishing her luck with her exams and saying they are looking forward to her joining them in September and hope she has an enjoyable summer. Brought a smile to her face.

Hope those with tough days today come home happy.

I imagine many have English Language tomorrow. AQA and possibly others too.

DD has chemistry tomorrow. It is going to be a difficult paper she reckons. She has been talking about moles, and not the furry sort. Personally I prefer the furry sort.

musicposy · 27/05/2012 22:47

Thank you, we do need good luck! DD's history in particular we need the more social sides of the topics to come up as she's really good on those. If it's all about what date this act was passed and what date this revolt was, not so much so.

DD has 5 exams this week between tomorrow and Thursday morning and it feels like quite a lot. She can't wait until half term when she will be well past the halfway point :) But tomorrow is her biggest hurdle - both exams are 2 hours 30 minutes so it's going to be a long day and her hand is going to hurt from writing by the end!

BringBack1996 · 27/05/2012 22:03

DS was on 7 in fours days last week but down to four this week. I'm really glad that he chose art as his fourth option as if he'd gone with classics like he originally intended to he would have had 28 exams this summer!

Kez100 · 27/05/2012 21:19

Good luck to all the DCs this week!

gettingalifenow · 27/05/2012 20:43

Wow, mums toast, that's a different kind of busy week from most of us!

My DD has 23 papers in total and has 7 in just two days ths week (had 9 last week) - just depends on the boards, I guess ( having 4 papers in Latin alone does bump up the total...)

mumstoast · 27/05/2012 20:13

This is DD's busy week, she only has 4 exams but thats half her total! she has english Language on tuesday, Physics and Chemistry on wednesday and ICT on friday, she has been revising like crazy for physics and ICT today mainly because she hates the heat so is sat inside board!

BringBack1996 · 27/05/2012 13:17

English language followed by latin for DS on tuesday and then two physics on wednesday. There's light at the end of the tunnel though as that marks the half way point (nearly!) and then there's two weeks before his next exam!

I'm having a tough time getting him to revise at the moment though as he's got a national rowing comp next saturday which he is very nervous about. Fingers crossed it won't effect his exams!
