Ds2 will be there in 2 years, lovely school, excellent teacher, nice facilities.

I couldn't afford private school fees for 3, I don't think I could even afford the uniform but I really love the local school, no complaints.

seeker · 04/03/2012 18:21

I wish the was a comprehensive for mine to go to. Sadly, because we live in an 11+ area, there isn't.

RiversideMum "I may be somewhat old-fashioned, but I genuinely think the idea of comprehesive education is a very fine one."

Not only old fashioned but a distinct minority on this site.

"I'd love a thread in praise of comps!"

Not a thread, but a whole website! www.localschoolsnetwork.org.uk

Mines there. Loves it so much she's staying on to do another 2 years! It's been the making of her.

KatieScarlett2833 · 04/03/2012 15:45

Both there, doing brilliantly fine

I wish there was a bog standard comp near me. (11 plus area)

KS2L6 · 04/03/2012 11:17

Going to almost local comp but def not bog standard - hooray!

isitwineoclockyet · 04/03/2012 10:19

I went to a selective independent school & always assumed that if I had kids they would too. Then I had too many children too close together & probably couldn't even have afforded the bus fare let alone the fees. DD1 has been at our local comp for a couple of years & it's fantastic. I'm really happy with it, but more than that, I can see that she's happy (more so than at primary) & she's thriving. It's probably the best decision we ever made.

RiversideMum · 04/03/2012 06:19

I may be somewhat old-fashioned, but I genuinely think the idea of comprehesive education is a very fine one. I'd love a thread in praise of comps! For what it's worth, my DCs are getting a much better education in our local comp that I did at one of the country's best girls' grammar schools.

Pusheed · 04/03/2012 01:46

Mine isn't. Woo hoo!!! :o

startail · 04/03/2012 01:41

DD1 is already there, DD2 refused to do the 11+ so she'll be there next year too!

Sensible distance, sensible work load, pretty reasonable pastoral care, lots of music and art and reasonable results if they are prepared to work.

GnomeDePlume · 03/03/2012 22:26

We have a Hobson's choice of one bit crap in and out of special meaures mediocre comp.

DD1 hopes to leave at the end of this year to go to somewhere better for A levels.

cocolepew · 03/03/2012 22:22

My Dd is in her 3rd year there and DD2 follows in a couple of years.

It's been fabulous for her.

TalkinPeace2 · 03/03/2012 22:21

I fought tooth and nail to get mine into a comp

ChickensHaveNoLips · 03/03/2012 22:20

I aspire to live somewhere where the bog standard comp isn't a failing crime pit. But as it is, I am very pleased that DS got a place at a just out of catchment good state school.

Voidka · 03/03/2012 22:18

He is if I can find my council tax bill!

bibbityisaporker · 03/03/2012 22:18

Mine dd is going to a bog standard comp a short bus ride away because the two really very good comps that are closer to where we live are oversubscribed to the point of insanity! Ah, the joys of London living. However, I liked the school when we were given the tour and I'm secretly pleased she's going to an all girls school but don't tell anyone.

Sparklingbrook · 03/03/2012 22:18

Quite right too. Grin

droitwichmummy · 03/03/2012 22:16

Mine will (waves to sparkling and sassy)

ATruthUniversallyAcknowledged · 03/03/2012 22:16

Mine's

Don't want anyone thinking they don't teach grammar at these bog standard schools

BehindLockNumberNine · 03/03/2012 22:16

Mine is in his second year at the local bog standard comp. And he is doing well and is happy.
His sister will follow him there in a few years.

We are happy with it, as are many of our friends who have dc there Smile

ATruthUniversallyAcknowledged · 03/03/2012 22:15

Mines only 6 months old, but I sure hope he does and that I don't turn into tiger mother when he hits puberty

BackforGood · 03/03/2012 22:13

What Ruby sad. That really is the norm not that you'd think so, reading MN Smile

Sparklingbrook · 03/03/2012 22:00

To be fair Sassy it's the only local comp. Grin

sassyTHEFIRST · 03/03/2012 21:58

Hey sparkling, I teach there...and can assure you there is nowt big standard about me Wink
