Rules for Secondary School

If you were starting a new state secondary school from scratch and you were only allowed 3 school rules what would they be?

Mine would be:

Be civil.
Be on time.
Be well groomed.

Agree with Edith. I would add "avoid hairstyles that mean you have to keep your head at an awkward angle"

Denj33 · 08/02/2012 13:52

Wel whatever nutmeg rush is, it is STRICTLY FORBIDDEN at DS1 school, quite how this is enforced I do not know, as a group of DCs running IS allowed, obviously they must have a nutmeg rush radar?!?!

I have had 3 letters and an email about it do far THIS YEAR
Given I have NO IDEA what it is, I am struggling to help enforce this rule :)

I think she'd be quite happy if her whole MFL class were texting or listening to their ipods'. She'd just like to be able to hear the teacher.

EdithWeston · 08/02/2012 11:09

Have a hairdo which you can see out from (no flicking).

Listen when others are speaking.

Be aware of your impact on others.

startail · 08/02/2012 11:05

You're here to learn not gossip.
If you don't want to learn, please shut up so others can!

That would be DD1s rule.

I like Evil's three, if we could just sneak the coat thing in it would be perfect. Smile

EvilTwins · 07/02/2012 23:26

  1. Allow learning to happen (for everyone, including yourself, all the time)
  2. Keep your phone/iPod/headphones in your bag and out of sight
  3. Treat everyone with respect, regardless of who they are.

Grin No NOs there.

marriedinwhite · 07/02/2012 21:30

Mine would be for the staff and governors:

Fulfil the promises made in the prospectus
Support all staff to deliver Grade 1 and Grade 2 lessons
All rules for the pupils will be applied fairly and equally

TheAvocadoOfInteriorDesign · 07/02/2012 21:13

Sit down
Shut Up
Get on with your work.

corlan · 07/02/2012 21:09

I like 'Try a bit' - I think that would make a great school motto.

seeker · 07/02/2012 20:43

Don't be a dingbat covers it!

Am loving "how's my teaching?"

Someone dare me to suggest it at my next governor's meeting......

MrsJAlfredPrufrock · 07/02/2012 20:40

Perhaps the positive messages could say:

You can be anything you want to be.

Or signs on each classroom door saying: How's my teaching? 0800 24333223

"It's so wonderful how much you want to communicate with your blackberry, I really admire your commitment to chatting. If you could just leave it a tad until after the lesson you can honour the class with your commitment to communicating with them for now".

HTH Grin

Lol@ positive messages

If someone can tell me how to enforce a rule without saying no I will give it a try?!?

Pls some one tell me how to say "get off that f**king blackberry " in a positive way.

Levantine · 07/02/2012 20:32

They have those sorts of things written in the whiteboard in my local tube station Laurie Grin

BornToBeRiled · 07/02/2012 20:30

Bring a pen, and also a ruler on a good day! Would save a lot of gagging and time wasting.

Be nice, not just to your mates.

Try a bit!

Denj33 · 07/02/2012 20:30

No idea, got an email from DS school about how it was not allowed in school, asked DS what it meant but still don't know what they do with the person of they catch them?

Thought it sounded a bit pointless really but most 13 y/o boys not know for imagination

Would love to know why it's called nutmeg rush tho :)

LaurieFairyCake · 07/02/2012 20:29

LOL at 'positive messages'

'Have a nice day' 'Don't worry be happy' 'No one ever died wishing they'd worked harder'

Is that the sort of thing you mean?

Levantine · 07/02/2012 20:27

Lol at nutmeg rush. Wtf?

Denj33 · 07/02/2012 20:23

So what would you rather they said?

Positive messages are great but if something is not allowed like no phones how would you like the school to express that?

MrsJAlfredPrufrock · 07/02/2012 20:16

Isn't it much better to have positive directions. NO this NO that is really awful.

I went to see a sec school in my town with DS when he was 10 and it was nothing but rules: DO NOT STAND HERE, NO LOITERING, NO RUNNING, NO TALKING IN THIS CORRIDOR, NO TALKING IN THIS CORRIDOR EITHER, DO NOT LEAVES BAGS IN THIS AREA etc. it was awful.
