dd1 is going up in September, had an interview with her year tutor last week and induction days in a couple of weeks.
I've started looking at uniform & it's getting closer!

Well ds went off today, typical i had to wake him up he is normally first up! he was adamant he wanted to go on the bus even tohugh I could have taken him and his friends mum offered to take him and it was pouring down! he has extra money hidden in case of emergencies - losing his bus pass! Texted me to say he had landed, really hope all goes well, he's a sensitive little soul but very independant - just want him to settle and make some friends

blimey, I wish I'd spotted this before...
Ds1 started his new school this morning. He has to catch the coach from the end of our (rural) lane, so no paths, shelters or anything. He has to stand at the end of the bridleway with one other boy...So anyway, off he goes, white as a sheet but ok...lovely morning. I'm watching from the car..he stands there for a few minutes and the rain starts to pour down. Doesn't think to get his raincoat out of his bag, but then neither does this other boy. They were like drowned rats...I wanted to go and tell him to put his coat on...but imagine how embarrassing that would be Blush
Ah well, He'll learn I guess, when he has to sit in a wet blazer all day...
Now I'm worrying about whether he managed to cross the main city road ok, and if he remembers to pick up his bass pass, lunch card, locker pass....
This is bloody stressful!

My baby ds2 started this morning. Ds1 started 6th form as well. Dd starts yr 9 equivalent tomorrow. Feel a bit sad that ds2 is heading out into the big wide world now but also excited for him as well.

CoffeeIsMyFriend · 05/09/2011 10:06

Was thinking of doing dress rehearsal for both my DC. Going to label everything later today and make sure pencil cases and everything else needed for school bags are ready in the bag.

Hope all the yr 7s starting today have a good first day.

crazymum53 · 05/09/2011 09:06

Well I've done it! Have just taken dd1 to her new secondary school. She looked really smart in her new uniform but seems small compared to some of the other children.
The only thing that didn't go to plan was the weather - hadn't practised in the rain.
dd1 is 20% nervous and 80% excited about her first day. Really hope it goes well.

Bellavita · 05/09/2011 09:01

Good luck to those with DC's starting today.

takeonboard · 05/09/2011 08:55

My DS starts tomorrow - I haven't been sleeping well for a week now, but thought he was breezing through until last night I asked if he was a little bit nervous, he replied "al little bit are you joking I am absolutely terrified".
.............so I barely slept at all last night!!
DS had some difficulties with bullies at his previous school, so he is extra worried on the will I make friends and what will the other kids be like front.

I just want to fast-forward to half term and for him to happy, settled and have a great bunch of mates! I suppose thats what we all want isn't it?

Good luck to DC's and parents starting secondary!

2gorgeousboys · 04/09/2011 21:57

Just wanted to say good luck to everyone with DC starting Year 7 tomorrow, be positive and they will pick up on this and be kind to yourselves.

Make sure you find plenty to keep yourself busy as the day will go so slowly whilst it's flying by for them Smile

I know what those of you who have mentioned difficult behaviour recently mean, DS1 has been unusually moody lately but on Thursday (the day before he started school) we had a complete meltdown.

We went to an outlet village to buy bits and bought DS1's trainers and football boots and managed to get a Nike pair he really, really wanted however when i checked the PE list it turned out he need to have blades or moulds on his boots not stubs (foreign language Hmm ) when we went back however to swap them they only had 1 style in his size. These were a nice pair of Nike boots but as they were not the pair DS1 had his heart set on he had a full on meltdown, temper tamtrum in the shop. I have not seen anything like it and even in his terrible 2's was not like this. We had tears, sulking and shouting and just fell short of throwing himself on the floor Blush

We got back in the car and he calmed down and apologised but it was like some kind of Jekyl and Hyde child.

DS1 is a little worried about tomorrow as it's the first day with all year groups in the school but not as worried as he was on Friday.

Good luck tomorrow mumsnetters and DC's

Toffeefudgecake · 04/09/2011 11:14

Did a 'dress rehearsal' for going to school tomorrow. Felt a bit mean waking DS1 up early, but he was really good about it and even struggled into his new school uniform. He still can't do his own tie (or top button), but at least he won't be having PE on his first day.

School bag packed. Everything labelled. Need to iron his shirts and we're about ready.

Astonishingly, he seems ready for it and is looking forward to the independence. I let him walk to his friends house and back on his own yesterday and he loved it. (He sent me a text halfway there, saying 'I haven't been run over yet' Shock).

Coffee - so sorry to hear that your son is so anxious. My son has had terrible problems with anxiety and OCD and is now on Prozac. I'll check out your other thread.

Bellavita · 04/09/2011 09:17

Maypole, What Coffee said. They don't have this system at my Ds's school, but do at the school I work in. If you are still having difficulty, ring the school they should be able go help.

Kitten, oh bless her. I know from DS1 the questioning does not get any easier.... So after 3 years I am non the wiser Grin. DS2 has a lovely young male form tutor (he seems to look up to the younger ones and is eager to please) - he is new to the school too this term. He seemed very approachable on the taster day so am hoping we can form a good parent/tutor relationship should things go wrong. See, here I am expecting them to go wrong Blush I should be more positive.

Coffee, could you maybe get in touch with the SENCO at his new school? Ours is fantastic where I work and every child really does matter there.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 04/09/2011 08:56

Bellavita - dd loved her first day :) she is really looking forward tomorrow. I think she is a bit fed up of all my questions though! I guess you'll have to keep an eye on your ds, but he may well find it is a good time to revise his classroom role., it will be easier to break out if it if he wants.

Coffee - thats is worrying :( I'll go and check out your other thread.

CoffeeIsMyFriend · 04/09/2011 08:49

Its easy maypole. You should have got a letter from school with a password and log in ID. Just go to the PP website and follow the login instructions.

I have just done it for DS, only takes a few minutes.

maypole1 · 03/09/2011 23:02

Any one know how to set up this parent pay crap

CoffeeIsMyFriend · 03/09/2011 20:51

me too bella He is still not eating properly and I am now probably over reacting but am thinking he may go down the anorexia route. Have kept these thoughts to myself, but may have to speak to DH about it.

He has gone from eating and drinking pretty much what he likes when he likes to controlling what he eats and drinks.

sorry, this is probably not the correct thread.

Bellavita · 03/09/2011 20:38

Coffee, I saw your other thread, I hope he is ok Sad

Bellavita · 03/09/2011 20:36

Hi Kitten, yes he is. His whole school year apart from two who have gone to private school and one that has moved areas altogether. There will be 10 tutor groups in his year and within his tutor group he will be with three others from primary - one being his friendship buddy who he put down on his list (they could put up to three down).

The covers were really good - when one book was finished, we just slipped it out and used the cover for the next one.

Did your DD enjoy her first day?

I work in a school - reception, we have all our little Yr7's starting on Tuesday.

CoffeeIsMyFriend · 03/09/2011 20:30

only just found this thread. And yes please do we need it!

DS is starting yr7 and is the only boy from his school. A girl (who he likes, phew) is also starting from his old class in Primary school.

He is very very anxious at the moment and the more he worries, the more his mood dips. Amongst other things which I have started a thread on in preteens. Sad

OhYouBadBadKitten · 03/09/2011 20:22

welcome bellavita :) is your ds going up with friends?
Great tip about the book covers - I had no idea you could buy them!

Bellavita · 03/09/2011 20:16

Hello, can I join in? DS2 starts on Tuesday.

I have DS1 who is going into yr10 so it isn't like I do not know the drill....

BUT DS2 is a law unto himself and likes to "hang around with the big boys" Hmm. He earned himself the reputation of class clown at primary and that sort of stuck with him throughout even though it didn't necessarily apply at all times the other kids used it to their advantage.

I am not worried about him finding his way around just the fact he may either hook up with the older kids or try to show off to his peers

He does have a heart of gold and will do anything for anyone, but he needs to engage brain before mouth.

Got the last couple of bits today - pritt sticks, tippex etc. I bought all uniform back in June and school shoes/trainers/socks back in the first week of the hols.

When DS1 first started, we bought some clear plastic book covers from Staples - maybe about 5 in a pack.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 03/09/2011 20:02

I'm not sure but we have brown paper already in and I bought a roll of decent wrapping paper that will get used anyway. Just as long as its not sticky back plastic (my nemesis)

whoknowswho · 03/09/2011 20:01

We always used the sticky back plastic at junior school!! Would that not be considered cool at high???

breadandbutterfly · 03/09/2011 19:56

What kind of paper do you cover books with? Saw some reference to that and haven't the faintest idea what the school was talking about.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 03/09/2011 17:13

oh just thought of something that occurred to me - if you have chance pick up some paper for covering books. dd hasnt been set that for homework yet but it wouldnt surprise me if that request comes home.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 03/09/2011 17:13

Welcome to the thread Jools and HarrietJ :)
Sounds like a good choice Jools, it is always a compromise finding the right school but if it feels right then it probably is!

HarrietJones · 03/09/2011 09:57

Just marking my place for Wednesday!
