Discovered man I’ve been seeing for 5 years is a full-blown conman running a double life.

I am completely shell-shocked and running on no sleep. I've been with a man (44) for 5 years. I thought he was a divorced single dad living with his parents due to debt. The reality has just exploded and it is a total horror show.

  • He met me on a dating app claiming he was single/divorced. He has kept me completely isolated from his home, parents, and workplace for 5 years. I never even had his physical address, and after he kept cancelling and postponing my meeting his parents these past few months - he’s finally admitted last week they have no idea I exist.
  • He also admitted he lied about where his parents actually live in Cheshire just to make them sound wealthier than they are.
  • He completely hid the fact that he has a second son (9 years old) from me for 5 whole years, and only just dropped that bombshell. I was only aware he had a 14 year old son.
  • He claims his wife (ex wife as he told me) tragically died of terminal illness (breast cancer) in May. He flashed a quick snippet photo of a death certificate to me where I only saw the date, no name last week when it all came to a complete head.
  • He is now spinning a tragic story about becoming a "widowed dad" to care for his two sons, but now wants to start afresh and wants me to stage a fake "accidental park meeting" to introduce our kids and lie to them about our 5-year timeline.
  • He let slip his debts were caused by a gambling addiction, and the police were called to his house last October because debt collectors were pounding on the door. He claims his late wife cut him out of the will and put the house in a trust for the kids because her mother hated him.
whilst not admitting he was having an affair these past years, he has now said he was in a loveless sexless marriage where they agreed to do the best for the kids when young and live separate lives. It sounds like a complete and utter lie and itis clear he was a fully married man who has been living with his wife and kids in the family home this entire time, and he only used me, manipulated me in some sick game. He is currently acting completely normal on calls, aggressively trying to book a weekend getaway for us next weekend, and telling me he "needs my support going forward”. I am mid 40s and reeling from everything that’s come to light the past few days. He has always caled me every day, he was always lovely, fun and seemed so normal when we were together. my trauma-bonded brain is struggling to know what to do next. Please give me the brutal, honest truth I need to hear.

He was living with his parents for 5 years and that didn't bother you?
Obviously he's horrible, but you need to question yourself.

summitfever · Yesterday 23:25

Jesus H Christ OP, there is not snowballs chance in hell you can trust this piece of shit ever again! This is the absolute worst! Not at all normal behaviour, this is an unhinged man, and an unprecedented amount of deceit he’s upheld to keep you raveled up in this. Why did you never question not meeting anyone in 5 years? Give yourself a shake OP, you need to waken up! Sorry this has happened to you but you can’t let this continue.

@PurplepenguinZ how did you find out?

Had to threaten him with the police and then the revelation of the 9 year old son came out first..

The support he wants is financial. Get rid, he won't change. His wife didn't cut him out of her will because her mother hated him but to ensure he wouldn't gamble away any assets which could be left to her sons.

RUN FOR THE HILLS!

Block him

Go to therapy - this is a huge trauma, and I am so sorry, cannot begin to imagine how you must be feeling…. He’s just looking for someone to look after his kids now.

You are worth so much more 💪

Huckleberries · Yesterday 23:17

@PurplepenguinZ how did you find out?

mumumental · Yesterday 23:14

He lies easily and that will never change.

PruLeithsNecklace · Yesterday 23:06

The wife won’t be dead, block him and walk away, this has got dumpster fire written all over it.

WinterSunglasses · Yesterday 23:03

Are you even sure his wife is dead? He's lied all along, how can you know you're getting the whole truth about that?

He has no right to demand anything. Block. I feel sorry for his kids.

Jklellls · Yesterday 23:02

He's probably lying about his wife dying too, he's probably still married.
You can't believe a word that comes out of his mouth

Jklellls · Yesterday 23:00

I mean, who cares what he says to you now? He has voided every right to demand anything of you. What a shit bag
Just tell him to fuck off

Jklellls · Yesterday 22:59

You cannot be contemplating staying with this lying fantasist of a man, surely?
He was never who you thought he was. Your whole relationship was built on lies and illusion. He has treated you with no regard at all.
Just block him and walk away.
And then speak with a therapist about your trauma bonding.
You can do SO much better than this

TragicMuse · Yesterday 22:59

You get some iron in your heart and cut him adrift.

Why would you want to be with someone who hasn’t told you a single truth in all the time you’ve been together?

Fuck him off, cry a bit, recover and think about what made you accept such slim pickings for so long. You are worth more than being some shitbag’s guilty little secret. Make sure you know that.

NewDogOwner · Yesterday 22:58

Get him in the bin.

Eloise2398545 · Yesterday 22:57

I’m so sorry this happened to you ❤️

Tell him the relationship is over and block his number. Change any PIN numbers or passwords of yours he might know.

Get some decent therapy and make sure you never speak to him again.

Huckleberries · Yesterday 22:55

So basically, he was married

You’ve been together five years

And his wife only just died?

You walk away now.

as well as being a chronic liar, he’s a gambling addict

You walk away now

You do not get your children involved in this

I’m sorry you’ve been involved in such a long con. Honestly at this point if someone claimed to be divorced, I’d want to see papers.

and no, he doesn’t need Support. He’s just looking for somebody to dump the kids on.

sherbetlemonade · Yesterday 22:53

He's played you like a fiddle. Dump him.

Drivingselfmad · Yesterday 22:52

Obviously you need to block him and never speak to him again. You know this.

Block block block block
