I'm just bracing myself for the replies!!

I know their policies were quite wide apart but i kind of liked the lib dem policies on education etc but tory policies on economy.

Thought DC and NC looked like newly formed school chums during last night's speech though. Was waiting for them to turn round, hold hands and skip back through the garden to No 10.

After an initial tantrum I'm roughly thinking the same as Throckenholt at the moment.

Chil1234 · 13/05/2010 15:08

'economise and increase taxes'

That part 'economise' is surely just another word for 'cuts'? Savage tax increases = companies going under = employing fewer people = loss of tax revenue and you're back to square one.

It's a 'both and' not an 'either or'.

pot39 · 13/05/2010 15:03

Savage cuts= people's jobs= loss of tax revenue=increased debt=double dip recession.
Better to economise and increase taxes, remove tax break anomallies especially for so called charitable institutions like public schools

throckenholt · 13/05/2010 14:56

my concern is the LDs will get the blame if it all goes wrong (or for any bits that go wrong).

throckenholt · 13/05/2010 14:55

given we were likely to have a conservative government after the election, I am pleased that there most extreme tendencies are now likely to be kept in check by the LD influence. I am glad that some of the LD policies will get at least serious consideration. I am glad we get to benefit from the talents and advice of a wider range of people

But most of all I am glad it means the oppositional approach to our politics may be fading - they have to work together as adults.

ConnorTraceptive · 13/05/2010 14:51

I'm probably totally naive about it all but I would like to think that it is not a totally bad thing at all. I doubt it will be far from perfect but then what government ever has been?

azazello · 13/05/2010 14:48

I am. I think it is a good thing all round and hope it works.

May be Simon Cowell will sign them up for the next Britain's Got Talent!

The fact the Bank of England comments on the planned cuts last night was quite telling! There is no viable option but to make savage cuts and quickly.

I thought they looked like Ant and Dec actually.

ByThePowerOfGreyskull · 13/05/2010 14:36

Andie, whoever was in power today would have to make "savage cuts" the problem with the labour party was that they weren't being honest about it.

we are all grown ups, we can take it, be honest with us, tell us how bad things really are and then tell us what needs to happen in order to get us out of the shit.

DON@T tell us that there is a problem and pat us on the heads and tell us we don't need to worry about it for a couple of years until we are strong enough,

WhamBam · 13/05/2010 14:33

But Andie, savage cuts are absolutely inevitable, there is no money.

WhamBam · 13/05/2010 14:32

That's exactly how i feel ByThePowerOfGreySkull

AndieWalsh · 13/05/2010 14:30

If only the world worked like that, eh?

The Tories can now make the savage cuts they'd planned whilst hiding behind the Lib Dems' happy clappy centre-leftist politics.

Sorry, I am miserable about it. I will go now.

ByThePowerOfGreyskull · 13/05/2010 14:30

I have been thinking the same thing over the last few days.

I wouldn't like the very right wing tory policies and I think the lib dems with stop that, and I wouldnt like the more outlandish liberal democrat proposals and I think the tories will stop them so I think it is great.

Chil1234 · 13/05/2010 14:27

I should be very happy and indeed I'm cautiously optimistic. According to the results in my constituency, of the 50k that voted, 21k did so for the Tories and 19k for the LDs. So, as a town, we've got exactly the government we wanted. Conservatives that are socially liberal and LDs that are economically liberal. Best of all worlds.
