Do the left hate the right more than the right hate the left?

What has become obvious over the last few days is that the Labour Party in Scotland hates the SNP so much that they would rather submit to Tory Rule than even talk to the SNP. Why is this? Labour talked with the LDs who are slightly left of centre, so why not SNP & Plaid who are well to the left?

Why does anyone ask if single parents on are the left? Why would we be anywhere other than where our convictions take us?

Not all single parents receive benefits and the assumption that we would necessarily vote for Labour to protect those benefits is offensive and smacks of self interest being the only reason to vote.

Personally, I am sure that I will be financially better off under a Conservative government but I voted Labour because I care about people who are less well off than I am.

There's no such thing as the stiff upper lip.

I think there's alot of animosity (sp?) because a higher percentage of tory MP's are privately educated.

I am amused by the right on this thread I think.

I wont find he is genuine, because i know he, and most tories are not.

I see a lot more anti-Toryness, and have been on the receiving side of it on here and on FB from friends.

And the Conservatives got a larger amount of votes, wish people would stop blabbing that the country "doesn't want them". 2 million more people want them in than Labour, end of.

The two sides show their respective displeasures about each other in different ways.

Left hate on right = loud protests, lots of noise

Right hate on left = stiff upper lip

There's too many anti-tory threads on here, facebook is the same though. It's uncalled for. I've not heard as many Labour bashing threads, not even by half. It's pathetic. I didn't vote Labour, I never have. I have also never openly bitched about them the way that Labour supporters have bitched about the tories.

I would agree with the OP. I have found left-wing people (especially on MN) to be particularly venomous towards those on the right.

The left have more to be angry about. They are angry for a million others not just themselves.

I think the left are suspicious of the right, and the right get exasperated with the left. OK, those aren't the only two emotions but they play a big role.

but it doesn't matter, Tories don't need Kim Jong-il style phony adulation. The people of the country still prefer them without the need for stage-managed events, because they are in tune with a large number of the public. You'll find over the next few months that Cameron is genuine and won't need to bus in party supporters to boost his image. He'll put up with the booers, jeerers and hissers and act in the interests of the country in a dignified manner observing the correct protocol and decorum. The public will see the jeerers in action and draw their own conclusions.

The right seeks to oppress the left so I'd say the feeling is mutual!

Chil- Class struggle definitely happens in a downward direction- witness the policies of keeping the unions down, resisting the minimum wage, demonising single parents...I'd say that is pretty class based.

I think it is down to who is on each side. GENERALLY, the people on the left could lose a much larger percentage of their income and services. The right TEND to be a bit more cushioned. You get more angry about losing 25% of your income if it leaves you with no money to buy food than if it leaves you with no money to buy your second home/ski holiday/gold plated horse box.

Plus, the left TEND (please note that I know I am stereotyping wildly) to be less educated and powerful and so don't have other means to show their displeasure.

HerHonesty, you're causing me to do some work, I'm now going to have to spend time googling. I remember them telling us on the news that the people outside Number 10, who Blair shook hands with, the ones cheering and waving flags, were Labour Party workers a la Kim Jong-il in the democratic republic of North Korea.

What I meant was that the Tories got the largest proportion of votes of any party. They were the one party most favoured by the voters (but obviously not the Number 10 mob. I think we'll see the sane mob popping up everywhere in the coming years)

The right generally hate the left - if that's how we're going to divide - because they have reasons for doing so. The left hates the right mostly out of blind tribalism.

MT got a fairly good victory in 1979 - she still had the crowd of jeerers. nation was pretty pleased to be rid of labour then too! it is just the (crap) way some grass-roots labourites express themselves.

funnily enough, even though the two parties are much closer policy wise than they were back then, plenty of people haven't noticed...
