Brown's last act of spite

Why did he resign before the Tory-Lib Dem was final, despite being asked by both of them, in the interests of the country, to wait?

He will go down in history as one of our very worst Prime Ministers.

I prefer to say left wingers than Labourites. Same as you/we all say Tories rather than conservatives the majority of the time.

Because in some ways it's better for DC to take power in his own right as leader of the party with the most votes and then see whether he can back it up with confidence and supply.

GB needed to go anyway as he had no chance to form a majority and therefore had no possibility, as sitting PM, to form a Govt. It is not spiteful, it is pragmatic, and I think GB, whatever else he is, is a pragmatist.

He only had to wait a couple of hours until the Lib Dems finalised their acceptance of the deal.

Ed Balls is confirming this live on BBC1 as we speak.

I wouldn't put anything past old GB. He has played the political game for 13 years and is just as Machiavellian as Mandy. He probably did do it just at this moment through spite, or possibly for one last moment in the spotlight. Thank the Lord above he is old news now.
