although I can't dictate that, I hope that is how it turns out.

I for one will miss you. I and my family will be sad to see you go. They've painted not just the town but most of the country red for you!

I think your heart was in the right place, though I did not always, and I think you really cared, even about people like us, in the Highlands of Scotland.

I hope when it's all over, that you and your family come home to Fife and enjoy a retirement.

We don't live in the East anymore, and it will all I can do to keep us here for now. But my husband and my elder two are from the East in Edinburgh, and all their family from Fife and the Perthshire Highlands, who accepted me, a foreigner, as their own when they were under no obligation to do so.

You are so welcome up here.

The Queen Mother, daughter of the Earl Strathmore said, 'Duty is the rent you pay on life.'

You took that to heart, and regardless of what others may say, some of us believe that, maybe even the Queen!

Best of luck to you and yours and just to know, you are not without your supporters, Mr Brown (I think that is how he is called but forgive me if not).

Well done. And, as Churchill said, 'Keep b*ggering on.'

I have always felt that Gordon Brown was a decent person and I admired him for not being a typical political "smoothie". All the best for the future, "chin up" as my dad used to say to me!

Lovely idea expat!
Mr Brown,
I believe that the country has benefited hugely from your years as chancellor and as prime minister.
In years to come history will show that the UK was sheltered from the very worst of this financial meltdown by your actions.
Obviously didn't agree with all of your governments decisions but like tweety I believe you have a solid moral compass which is a rare thing in politics today.

Best of luck to you and your family.

A good article on Brown.

Oh, I'll be ripped to shreds! What's new.

Bring it.

And from me. I think you were savaged by Murdoch's media and you would have done much better in a world not dominated by spiteful hacks.

I believe you are a moral person and am truly sorry to see you go. And I always felt that you cared as opposed to the shiny spinny people that we are going to be subject to now.

Good luck Mr. Brown and I wish you all success in the future.

Very good expat.

Mr. Brown, I'm not as eloquent as expat, but I too will be sad to see you go. As will my family. I believe you and Darling have done an amazing job in difficult circumstances for little thanks, but you do have your supporters.

Best of luck for the future.

PS. Please note all Tory supporters who will come on later to pick my post to pieces, I will not be replying. I have said what I want to say (and hope Sarah Brown will read it) and I will not be dragged into any political debates.
