Michael Gove actually 75, but luckily met Leslie Ash's surgeon and can now hand w the 'Clash generation' Tories.

I think it's important that this doesn't become another basic left-right debate thread. For progressives of all kidneys there is SO much to discuss, ponder, imagine - all that will be squashed if this becomes an argy bargy thread.

Today, for example, I've imagined at least 3 outcomes that haven't occurred to me before, and if I'd been argy-bargying with Tories I wouldn't have had the energy/time to do so.

DH buys lots of good books like Applebaum, and Stasiland, etc, but reads so much more slowly (and carefully) than me that they're always lying around.

I have an urge to read political biographies/autobiographies - not just super-recent ones, but within my own lifetime.

Pol - OU is fab, but I am sore atm, having chucked away £140 through fucking up a deadline. let me be a lesson to you. Bah.

That's funny! I read Child 44 and was impelled towards Applebaum. Perhaps not so surprising, since he recommends just that bookshop journey.

I'm not much further into it than the first few pages. In theory, I'm reading it - but in fact I'm not reading much of anything at the moment. (Am supposed to be writing up thesis, so feel as though I'm cheating.) Feel incredibly impelled towards the politics section.

I'm not managing to read anything - I keep going to read the Guardian and finding that it might as well be a 100-year-old edition for all the news relevance it has. I have 'The End of the Party' sitting there unread - might move on to that soon.

That other Scottish MP, forgotten his name, is on far right of Labour party AFAIK. He appears on Twitter sometimes as is usually irritating.

What are you all reading atm, btw? Has the election got you all fired up? I'm re-reading Stiglitz: Globalization and its discontents, because all I can remember is that perfect markets need perfect information. And that doesn't really help. Plus a book about Gulags.

Policywonk there's a place for discussion threads, but it's also nice to have a haven where one can be amongst kindred spirits(ish). I was upset to see MMeLindt being told to eff off on another thread for a perfectly rational post. For the first time in five years I reported a post!
