I agree Beachcomber. Right now, a minority tory government seems the best we can hope for.

I understand the labour point that they need to go away and reform and regroup etc, but tbh, whilst it might suit the party, it will mean a lot of ordinary people will get fucked over in the next few years.

I'm sick of hearing that the GBP won't stand for a lib/lab alliance. It's basically what they voted for. Over 50% voted for left of centre progressive government, it's only the shitty past the post system that is denying them their democratic right.

It's surely the perfect opportunity to argue the point for PR?

I know Lenin but might be the price to pay to pave the way for it happening later. I think PW was right when she said that the public will need about 2 years of cbeebies style explanations of PR before they will vote responsibly on it.

Very sensible post MmeLindt - I don't usually do the 'come over here' thing on MN but took umbrage at you being quoted without your knowledge and being accused of not knowing what a bank is - duh.

I am starting to hope that we end up with a Tory minority who fuck up royally and then we can have a go at hauling the whole thing into the 21st century next time round.

It just fucks me off so much to say it because if that is what happens then ordinary people will suffer and the 'what about the markets' shower will make a killing.

Step away LibDems and Labour and let them deal with it.

I clearly do not have time to do the ironing. I must monitor the situation here more closely.

Um. Con minority. Not sure. Would it work? Not for long, I assume. They certainly would not be able to get their more extreme agenda through parliament. Or do lib dems have to vote with them on some issues?

Hameron...to achieve gravitas in meetings:
speak slowly, lower your voice and eye them (or think Leningrad)

also great negotiating tip is to ask people to explain their opponents point of view

it can help everyone feel "heard" without them feeling they have to do all the talkie talkie point scoring (think wonk)
