OK you have all clearly being boning up on AV/TVI/PR and the choreography of cross party decision making in my absence so I'm just going to pick the next post on from this one and believe that for the evening whatever position it takes. Simples!

I would imagine there will be defectors. I have emailed the LibDem twat that I had to vote for to keep the tories out encouraging him to defect. Shame that he is one of the key negotiators and definitely probably has let all the power go to his little head.

I don't think a huge number will defect if they get the AV referendum. Alliance without any kind of pr was always going to cause mass defections, even a poss split - but with AV I think they'll sit tight.

The Liberal flank of the party prob not that worried about alliance with a 'soft' Tory party. And the Social democrats will find it hard to resist the siren call of real power..

This will ruin the LibDems.

How can this be possible? Is it not that you are either in agreement or not in agreement - can you be nearly in agreement? Because nearly is not agreement.

I wonder how many LibDem MPs will defect if there is an alliance? Suddenly their working majority could become very unstable.

I'm not sure Pol. I don't think the worst of the slashing and burning will be affected - LDs and Tories not that far apart on that issue. Immigration possibly - amnesty, followed by big cut in numbers? Inheritance tax probably doesn't impact enormously on the public purse at the end of the day..

I think I'd rather have the public see them for what they are and then vote them out, than a drip-drip over a longer period of time.

Thought of Tory leader bending over backwards for Clegg quite nauseating...

as a lefty who has voted lib dem in the past i just can't see lib/con being a natural or comfortable alliance

people keep saying that there are tory/right wing types voting lib dem but i feel a bit about that if I'm honest

lib dems need to hold out for something concrete on the voting reform. my dad says that once one change has happened it will pave the way for others. but I think that maybe if we do a change now to AV everyone will think "well we've done voting change that's that" and lose appetite for further reform.

all these things cost a huge amount of money too. referendums, changing how the voting works, advertising it all, general elections. I mean we can't go on like this indefinitely. people get bored too.

I think Hauge is way more bearable when he has a dose of humility thrown in Hassled. Brings out a bit of humour. He's rapidly losing ground with me again now too.

when we're looking at so many seats beign stalwart one way or the other, i don't see that it will mean much?

and my green vote will still be a total waste of time.

Hague's an odd one - I used to loathe him. Then he fell out of favour and seemed quite human and I secretly quite liked him. Now he's back in the frontline and I'm starting to loathe him all over again. Power corrupts, or something.

OBM - but worse things could happen than the Tories having to drop some of the more egregious parts of their programme.

Who here, if they'd been offered a minority Tory gvt w/ a LD presence three months ago, would have bitten your hand off? Me, for one.
