There I was thinking that Yvette Cooper was my age mid early 30s. She's bloody well 41!

I don't think Balls has a hope in hell, he can't be party leader when he has such small majority in his seat IMO.

I don't think Yvette Cooper would go up against him, I mean, can you even imagine having that conversation over a boiled egg and soldiers?

I reckon we'll be stuck with a Miliband, not really bothered which one.

And r-wing media - gah. Some guy from the Times was on the BBC earlier saying he reckoned Clegg had seen this morning's papers and realised the game was up. Makes me want to throw things.

I hold out hope that:

The election managed to draw out as many Tories out of the woodwork as possible. I would imagine that if you are ever going to vote Tory, you would have done it this month.

When it all falls apart we will have another election.

This will cause Labour voters who did not turn out to get off their arses and vote.

Some LD voters will switch sides and Labour will win at the next election.

If this is not likely to happen, please do not tell me otherwise, it is the only thing keeping me going at the moment!

They can't go for Balls, surely. Even more people hate him than hate Brown.

Have never formed an opinion on Burnham. David M I find unconvincing and he is a torture-monger. Don't think Johnson is great but he is sort of jolly and avuncular and would be a good place-holder. I like Ed but think he would be a better leader in a few years' time (a bit like Hague coincidentally - he got it too soon and blew his chance).

I quite like Hague simply because he can deliver a joke, and he took all the Tory boy/baseball cap stuff in pretty good humour. Obviously his politics are not terribly attractive to me.

Trying to think of Labour women other than Harman... thought Yvette Cooper was supposed to be in with a chance? I like Emily Thornberry, she'd be one to watch but her seat is very marginal. Oona King was always impressive, shame she seems to be pleased to be out of Westminster.

I am too bemused by my feelings re Hague. I thought he seemed a top chap (when he was powerless). Now he actually has some say in how the country is run he is an odious little toad again.

I love politics

He would be a serious contender as leader again. I would be far more worried with Hague as an enemy opponent than old luncheon meat face.

1840: There is a sense of momentum and a sense that we are on the verge of some sort of announcement from the Tories. Meanwhile, the mood seems to have lifted in Downing Street, where Gordon Brown is apparently cracking jokes with staff, the BBC's Laura Kuenssberg says.

I'm glad Gordon's happy. I do hope he's at that stage where all he really wants to do is walk away. Live in his beautiful sounding house, enjoy his boys etc.

Why had I never heard of Laura K before the last couple of days? Is she new or am I clueless?
