I think lib/lab would have fallen apart. And really how could we have a govnt led by a PM who was being voted out by his party? Labour just too tired and worn out and needs time to allow some new people to grow. But, yes, I am nervous. As DH said, you haven't heard much from the libdems about protecting public services.

I don't know why mr justa is so hot under the collar, but I haven't trawled through all the last couple of hours posts.

Laura Kuenssberg is the only fecking BBC reporter who can do an interesting job without wetting her pants with partisanship. Even Jo (I'm gorgeous with gorgeous hair) Gosling seems to be having multiple orgasms.

Although there is a tiny teeny waft of beginning to question things from her now.

obm, agree with that - I'd have rather they just stayed in opposition, in the end. But if they'd got a better promise on electoral reform, I'd have seen the point.

I still think that a minority Tory govt might have been the least-worst outcome - at leaset, I think I do. Argh. Sooner out, and they would still have been heavily - perhaps even more heavily - restrained by necessity of gathering support from all around, on a nightly basis.

Whereas now we may well have 4 years of it, and there is soo much that can be hacked to death in 4 years - with a sweetener tax cut just in time for a general election for all those people who don't, for eg, need surestart or ctc or 15 hours free nursery care.

proles, it's not the unhappiness with a tory pm, so much as the accusations of libdem = rightwing...and absolute loyalty to people (blair/brown) that have absolutely shafted labour, and the public.

Diane Abbott pointing out that Parliament is going to really matter now for the first time in ages - good. Hope the coalition agreement includes something about altering the way Parliamentary committees are chosen, that's a big one - not glamorous but significant.

The statements here didn't say that not every lib dem is a closet tory. In fact, they said the opposite.

That's insulting and wrong. I'll be bad tempered in response to an insult and doublespeak doesn't change it.

I voted Labour and would do so again. I wish they'd had the guts to fight for a coalition and to acknoweldge that they need to make common cause with PC and the SNP. However, but they couldn't be bothered. If they had, we could be in a different position tonight.
