I have a question for Labour supporters...

What do you think of Peter Mandelson?

That's it really - I'm just interested.

(Disclaimer-type thingy: I'm not particularly a supporter or hater of any of the three main parties)

I lurve Peter Mandelson. I think he is clever, entertaining, sneaky and a really effective and efficient politician. He makes me laugh a lot and I think he knows what he's doing.

I'm not exactly a supporter but - Mandy makes me feel safe, I really notice that he really seems to know what he is doing, he was well thought of in Europe. When he came back I really did feel that we were a bit safer to have him here.

We have a lot of 'opinions' in political life but Mandy seems like an effective executor.

Does that make sense?

I always imagine Mandelson - or to give him his full title circa 2009... Baron Mandelson of Foy in the County of Herefordshire and Hartlepool in the County of Durham, First Secretary of State, Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills, Lord President of the Council - must have a LOT of dirt on people to get where he's got today.

I'd rather have him on our side than have to deal with him as an opponent. I'm sure one day Machiavelli will be very pleased to greet him in the afterlife but I woudln't put a bet on it being St Peter who performs the introductions - as my late lamented Granny would say, he might well be going to the other place...

Sometimes I wonder whether he would help his party more if he drew less attention to himself though - did all his evil really behind the scenes

I quite like him - a while back (when he first returned as a Lord) a mumsnetter revealed that she had worked for him in the past. She said he was brilliant to work for.

I think he is what he is - a politcial wheeler dealer extrordinaire. Extremely bright man - frighteningly so, actually. A steely survivor. I wouldn't cross him.

Is he likeable? No. Lots of quite brilliant people aren't.

He shows Paxo up every time and for that I adore him

Labour supporter here - I think he's probably bloody good at his job but he really is the Prince of Darkness and makes my flesh crawl. Evil genius is about right.

Mollymawk - that's my problem: I can't understand why he's not a Tory! And I do think it's about the thrill of having control now. His head must have swelled hugely when Brown asked him back.

Swimming against the tide here but I loathe him. He's a formidable operator, I admit, but especially in the last year, his determination to grind HE under the heel of big business has really hacked me off (plus his famous relaxedness about people getting 'filthy rich'). It was a key reason why I very reluctantly decided I could not vote Labour again this time round, although I still consider myself a Labour supporter overall and hope to vote for them again in the future.

He is also excellent entertainment value especially when he starts a sentence with "come on Jeremy" when speaking to Paxman.

Used to loathe him when he was on Blair's team (loathe Blair). Don't mind him so much now he's stuck with the programme and not hoyed off to a life of public speaking. PSML at Voldemort.
