TYV - I am in Bromsgrove constituency - Rabid tories here despite Julie Kirkbride, and UKIP/BNP made up 10% of the vote

Of course, there must be lefties here - Labour and the Libs did get votes after all - I am trying a tactic of quickly cycling through new acqaintances until I find one I like - economical

I watched HIGNFY - Hislop seems to get let and less secretive of his political leanings as time goes on

Anhyway I'm signing off to watch Wallander (can't multi task with laptop as need to watch the subtitles!)

I have always voted Labour, as have my parents and both sets of grandparents. My maternal grandfather was involved at a local level.

DH is an evil Tory, always has been and so are his parents. We don't discuss politics. We make snidey comments over our boiled eggs about Brown and Hameron respectively. We snort at each other a fair bit. But we don't discuss. We are fundamentally different in our attitudes to what a government is for.

Its interesting in our house.

Stimulating high energy household with large audience required I think! (not our quiet bookish rather routien and humdrum existence)

Maybe you could smuggle it in under cover of a book group - the initial reading could be Mao's Little Red Book, moving on to The Road to Wigan Pier, then perhaps a biography of Engels, followed by The Ragged Trousered Philanthropist...?

Oh we did the lot: I have photos of me on the pro-choice demos, Greenham Common, Rock Against Racism. Am now very proud but back then I just longed to be allowed to wear lipstick and Chelsea Girl without a 4 hour inquisition.

I grew up in Ken Clarke's constituency and my mum stood many times in our hopelessly Tory ward. So I feel I have come home and really couldn't live in tory south happily I don't think.
DH and I met through student politics (it was the campaign against David Alton's abortion bill) and have spent many many happy hours debating and discussing...

I've always been left of center. Marched in High School, staunch Democrat, interred for a summer with my Democrat Congressman in high school. Active in Democrats at Uni (volunteered on 2 presidential campaigns).

Parents are Republican, grew up in a staunch Republican area, and am surrounded by Tory supporters here. Because we don't talk politics much, they would be very suprised that I'm a closet Leftie (yes, Lefties can carry Birkins).

I am slowly turning DH more and more lefty. His parents are strict Daily Mail Tories and so is the rest of his family. He was never right wing, but he moves a little every year I think.

Cor Hameron your yoof sounds very exciting!

Mine was lefty but rather boring. Small market town, lots of lentil weaving and stripped pine - marches about things like South African bananas in the school canteen.
