I'm sorry but how can anyone vote for someone who only gave up their non dom status during the election campaign? How does someone like that contribute to Britain? He only became a tax payer because of the election. To me, that is a scum person.

And whilst he roundly won his seat, why did he have that gurning hooray behind him during the announcements? That, I have to say, was one of my favourite moments of the election, watching that berk's face. Could you get any more Tory?

Who said anything about hating because he's rich and good looking? In fact, who said anything about hate?

I just think it's contemptible the way he was non dom and now isn't for the convenience of an election. It's all such bull.

And as for "typical Tory", 8 million people are not members of the Tory party. Many of those 8 million do not always vote Tory.

He represents all that I cannot stand about the Tory Party. If he was so keen and committed, why not stand for the Greens, and actually put his money where his mouth is?

And he cheated on his gorgeous wife with his brother's sister-in-law. Nice

I found this NY Times article on him a while ago while looking for stuff for my media class. Just looking at that picture makes me want to go

Actually I think it's pathetic to "hate" someone because they're born rich & good-looking - talk about chips on shoulders!

I don't draw the line on what amount of money a child is born into and will benefit from. I only say they are subject to tax.

And if you're born into lots of money, you pay more tax.

And if you are non dom in any way and seek public office, you should not been seen as avoiding tax.

As long as you work and pay tax, I'm happy.

And I have nothing against Old Etonians or any Etonians or private school. Just don't expect special treatment. You are subject to tax. You are not special. Just rich. There's a big difference.

You want to be considered British, you pay your way. That goes for all tax dodgers who by the way cost the U.K. an awful lot more than benefits skankers.

where do you draw the line on what amount of money is acceptable for a child to be born into and benefit from? surely you can't pay your own way from birth? and most rich people work anyway and do generate their own incomes. your points don't hold up.

I file him in the same category as Russell Crowe. Cannot stand him as a person, cannot abide his works, his principles or his beliefs but...I so would. Any day. And twice on Sunday.

Hope i have contributed something illuminating to the thorny subject of taxation and non-dom status.

Therein lies the problem. Just how much money do the wealthy need? Because them there Goldsmiths have got pots and pots and pots of cash. And I really don't feel for them having to pay more tax. Tough, isn't it? Being so rich.

Tax is a reality of fair living in the U.K. and if you want to be an M.P., then you've got to be seen as paying your way. That's the way it is. You don't like it, then go and live off your huge family wealth elsewhere and avoid paying tax. But don't you ever dare assume you are one of the British people who graft and graft to pay their way instead of resenting paying tax on your inheritance.

Yep, not illegal but clearly unfavourable so that's why he changed his status.

I wouldn't mind so much if a level playing field was created.

And before you shout, "Resentful prole!" I speak as someone whose family faces rather a hefty inheritance tax.

Now I don't agree with all this non-dom nonsense but it was all perfectly legal. And it is something that the Labout party could have changed over the past 13yrs.

The Tories and Labour both love sucking up to the rich folk. We are all just little people to them.

I know very little about Zac Goldsmith. However, I can understand why someone (such as Zac Goldsmith's father) would want to pass on their wealth to their children rather than be massively taxed by the state (on earnings and assets that have already been taxed).

So if your parent set it up, and that's what you grew up into, at what point would you decide this is wrong, I shouldn't benefit from this situation?

Apparently the answer for ZG was when he was running for office. But I don't know if I can blame him for not having done it sooner.
