Who else joined the Labour Party today? Apparently 1000% increase in membership today...

miaow SmallWhiteCat- you seem very defensive for a supporter of the winning team.

I wish I could be as confident as you are that the Conservatives are committed to state education and healthcare! I'm afraid history just proves that that is just not the case. But then some Conservatives like to re-write history don't they? Remind me again of the name of the Conservative MP who denied the Holocaust took place?

Jellycat- I rest my case. Tories don't really value comprehensives. Why would they, when they think we should all pay for our own education!

mumutd- I'd love to see Hague at the mercy of the media too.

mimizan, our local falling down comp hasn't been re-built under Labour. That's because we live in a safe Tory constituency.

Well you obviously lived in a different city to me. People were always being mugged and burgled near me! Many areas were no go!
The local comprehensives were falling down, and have recently been re-built under this government. As have many hospitals. Maybe you just haven't noticed!
Years of thatcher squeezing public services has meant alot has been spent on reviving them. The economy was strong because Thatcher didn't want to spend money on the common people!

SWC- how short your memory is! I remember the completely depressed mess the Labour Government inherited in 1997. The schools and hospitals were falling down. The inner cities were scary places to live, because some people living there were so poor, they were forced to offend to live.

That's before we consider the selfish values which dominated. The institutional racism, homophobism. That's what Labour inherited.

Even Cameron opened his speech last night by ackowledging how open our society is now. Let's hope he continues to value this openess for the future of our children.

Was last inspired to be politically active as a student during the Miner's strike. I'm so old!!!

I have so much more respect for the Labour Party now, as they are wholly responsible for the sound values which predominate in our country, and are being taught in our schools.

Can't wait til the media get their knives out on the Tories. Who do you think will be their first victim? Osborne?

Lots of us Labour voters are delighted to see George Osborne to become Chancellor. My bet is his huuuge personal charisma will make him the first of the Tory sacrificial lambs.

I've been a member for ages, but have just been inspired to tell them that I've moved constituency, so hopefully I'll get pestered to help out. Feel guilty that I have done nada for the last two elections.

Mimizan big welcome to you. I have to say that the party is 'left' enough for me. We'll have to keep the debate civilised!
